#bbrc #er Reader's Choice

Oh-la-la!! 💜 💜 When Maya was 6, we had a Fancy Nancy birthday party...oooh, the cuteness! With an eclectic array of bone china tea cups from Habitat ReStore (I still use them!), and a 3-tier cake, I think it was the fanciest party I ever threw. 😂

She read this newer early reader book with me tonight, and said, Violet's so much like me! She loves being a reading buddy to younger kids, and she is a mismatch expert! 😁

How could I not pick an early reader biography about Dr. Seuss for this prompt? He was the master and innovator of the early reader genre, and changed the beginner reading experience for millions of children! I like that this biography covered all of his life, including his work during the war years.

I had to go back to a childhood favorite for this prompt! Amelia Bedelia was given a new look in the 21st century, but the very first book, and Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping, will always be my favorites. Ah, childhood memories! I'm pretty sure I tried to “dress the chicken“ and “draw the drapes“ at least once during childhood. 😆

megnews My absolute favorite is when she “dusts” was it the drapes. I think of that often and laugh. My 15 year old is extremely literal and has often reminded me of Amelia. 5d

#bbrc #er Published in the last 5 years.

Maya's favorite early readers were Fancy Nancy, Biscuit, and Pete the Cat. I picked the latter for this prompt, because I've always cracked up at Pete the Cat. Here you have Pete embarking on a quest to see a seahorse, yet not noticing the one right beside him until the very end. It would be a great accompaniment to an ocean unit, lots of sea life make an appearance. Super cute!

#bbrc #er Popular TV character

Based on a Star Wars Rebels episode, this early reader is filled with great vocabulary. There's also a lot of blowing things up. 😱I love all the movies, but I've never watched SW Rebels. This book made me a Hera fan, maybe I'll check out a few episodes with Maya sometime soon.

Mehso-so

Simple story in three chapters about a boy who lost his dog, misses his dog, then finds the dog. I was surprised that the font was smaller than expected, and the lines quite close together which would make this a bit more challenging for a new reader. Also, not a huge fan of the illustration style. But this finishes my #er section of #bbrc! #readerschoice

Simple short stories about twins Ling & Ting and their funny adventures in different kinds of weather. Perfect for beginning readers with lots of repetitive words. #bbrc #er #publishedwithin5years

Nice recap of Katherine Johnson‘s life, love of math, and the important work she accomplished at NASA. Also includes bones material like describing different engineering fields, other jobs math enthusiasts might like, and facts about outer space. #bbrc #er #nonfiction

Back from a weekend camping trip, and started in on the easy reader part of the #bbrc. I think Doc McStuffins is still a #popularTVcharacter? Anyway, cute story that relies heavily on the illustrations and uses pictures in the text to help new readers along. @LibrarianRyan #er
