This Must Be the Place | Maggie O'Farrell

Current mood: the anticipation and joy that comes with finding a new favorite author.

I'd started Instructions for a Heatwave before but bailed. Going to try again. Maybe it will be my #changedyourmindabout book.

I first read this in high school and thought it was unbearably slow. Then, I reread it in college and absolutely loved it. #ChangedYourMindAbout #FeistyFeb

Eliza-beta It's such a great book. But yeah, i read it as an adult - i don't think I would have liked / appreciated it as a teenager in high school. 7y
Alfoster Agree with you both! Wouldn't have liked it in high school but love it now😍! 7y

I read this in 1999 and really didn't care for it so it sat on my bookshelf for years. Then a couple of years ago some Goodreads friends began raving about it so I bowed to pressure and re-read it...loved it. It just goes to show that books have more meaning at different times in your life.

#feistyfeb day 4: #changedyourmindabout. The most recent book I changed my mind about was Fates and Furies. I was reading it, not impressed, not seeing what the hype was about...and then I got to the second half. Once Mathilde became the POV character, I was riveted. Totally changed my opinion of the book. I'm so glad I stuck with it.

#changedyourmindabout I was young in my teens when trying for Frankenstein, perhaps looking for something scarier as a Stephen King fan. I wasn't quite getting the dialogue, but now I really do 🤔 the existential philosophy of Frankenstein's monster became a fascinating reread over the years, as a fully cool love for the story! #feistyfeb

BillBlume This is one of those books I need to revisit. In my case, it awakened my love to read when I was in high school. 7y

Wuthering Heights | Emily Bront

It's interesting how many times Wuthering Heights and Harry Potter came up in #changedyourmindabout.

I had to read this in high school for an English course and I just couldn't get through it. I picked it up again about 20 years later and I absolutely LOVED it! I enjoyed it so much, I'm almost afraid to read it again. But I will one day. #day4 #changedyourmindabout #feistyfeb

#feistyfeb #changedyourmindabout I thought about this one all day and could not think of anything. But then as I was lying in bed last night it hit me - Litsy has changed my mind about reading nonfiction! I never picked up a nonfiction book and avoided that area of the bookstore because I thought nonfiction was for serious people and I read for fun. I now have these four on my shelves and more I want on my TBR list thanks to all of you! ❤️

TrishB Snap 😀👍 good one, I used to have to be coerced into non-fiction- now I'm choosing quite a few! 7y
britt_brooke 💚👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 7y
jpmcwisemorgan There's a lot of great non-fiction out there and I think it can work as a sort of palate cleanser. Also, sometimes it's fun to match up your fiction with some non-fiction - if you're reading fiction in space maybe find a book about astronauts (or the women who made it possible). I find it can add depth to my reading, overall. 7y

MeganAnn @jpmcwisemorgan thank you for the lovely advice! I'm slowly learning more about how to work nonfiction into my regular reading so this is very helpful!! ❤️😊 7y
jpmcwisemorgan You're welcome! I read nonfiction pretty regularly but lately I've found that double up concepts really adds something. Happy reading to us all! 🙂 7y

So I realize I posted about this yesterday, but honestly, since I've read it so many times, it is also the book I've changed my mind about the most. I ADORED Holden in high school (because of course I did), haaaated him in college, and the last time or two I read it, I felt more motherly and concerned for his well-being. #changedyourmindabout #FeistyFeb

For a new shot, here's a better view of my bottom-of-the-page dogears.

[DELETED] 1409720085 This is one I have actually never read. 😬 7y
LindsayReads @emilydecato I think it holds up well regardless of the age you are when you read it. There are a lot of undertones I didn't get until I was older. 7y

#FeistyFeb #changedyourmindabout #Middlemarch
@RealLifeReading
Began Middlemarch in my teens because it was my older sister's favorite classic. Bailed almost immediately; hated it! Now I am more than halfway through the novel on serial reader & I am enjoying it so! Needed maturity? Or becoming less afraid of "fat" books?!
