4⭐️ Really liked this book; it was really well paced, had very interesting characters that were compelling in their own way. Had a bit of an issue with the last two chapters in that I felt that they were both a little too long. #2025 #fiction #bookerprize #feminism #bipoc #intersectionality #literaryfiction

kspenmoll Me too! All that! 4d

Misinterpretation | Ledia Xhoga
Pickpick

The theme of literal translation/interpretation is wonderfully interwoven with a myriad of ways that we misinterpret. The novel moves from tense to calm but with an underlying sense of fear and dislocation. There is also movement between dreams/nightmares and a dislocation from reality, that leaves you wondering what is actually happening. An impressive first novel and it‘s highly engaging/unputdownable.

Graywacke Yay. Love that you bonded this. I‘m definitely a fan. The whole tone and sense was enjoyable 4d
Hanna-B So well composed and tense. 4d

Metafiction where fiction and reality collide, snails, critique of international bride industry, dark humor, commentary on Ukraine war, the power and impact of storytelling…

I absolutely loved this book. My favorite so far from the Booker list (although I still have a few to go). #bookerprize

BarbaraBB Good to know. It‘ll be my next Booker read. 1w

It‘s definitely a book-related post, even though it may not look like it!

A rare ‘lefty‘ snail is one of the main characters in the tagged book, longlisted for the #bookerprize. 😝

Making my way through the Booker list. Loving the writing in this book. In 2 days I leave for vacation with my daughter to Italy where we will eat, read, and go to the beach. This is our annual tradition - 1-2 weeks traveling to a new to her place (I have been to Italy many times) over the summer. Time flies, she will be 15 this year and our trips will likely stop when she goes off to college. #bookerprize

Ruthiella This is probably the one longlisted title that I will read regardless. I really liked and was pleasantly confused by 1mo
squirrelbrain This is the last one I can get hold of - waiting for a library hold….. have a lovely trip with your daughter! 🇮🇹 1mo
JenP @squirrelbrain thanks! You are speeding through the list. I‘m enjoying your reviews. 1mo

JenP @Ruthiella this is the first of her books I‘ve read. I own trust exercise but haven‘t read it. Heard it‘s great by people who generally have same book tastes as me 1mo
BarbaraBB Hopefully you‘ll have plenty of time to read in Italy. How wonderful to travel with your daughter 💕 (edited) 1mo
squirrelbrain Thanks Jen! 😊 1mo

My Booker stack. I have the rest as ebooks but holding to snag the hardcopies of those too #bookerprize

RaeLovesToRead I'm off to Waterstones today too! 1mo
Ruthiella Good luck! 👍 1mo
JenP @RaeLovesToRead I look forward to seeing your stack and the books you like most 1mo
RaeLovesToRead I will post a pic later... they didn't have many of the books!!!!!!!!!! I did get Universality though so the rest will have to be ordered online. But I did get other books ? That's the problem with researching and predicting... all the new books were familiar so I was like "OOH I'VE HEARD OF THIS!" way too many times! Haha 1mo
squirrelbrain Lovely! I‘m reading Love Forms (and One Boat) and listening to Flesh. 1mo

Audition made the #BookerPrize longlist! Interested to see what other #camplitsy people think of this!

Personally I didn‘t enjoy reading it. But I can see how it‘s a good novel? I just don‘t like being confused! 🤣

BarbaraBB I am not surprised it‘s on the list! It even is the only one I read so far 🤦🏻‍♀️ 2mo
Kitta @BarbaraBB I haven‘t heard of most of them! Usually I‘ve read a couple but I guess I‘ve been reading different stuff this year. 2mo
Ruthiella I also haven‘t heard of many of the titles-the authors yes, but not the actual books. 2mo

Kitta @Ruthiella you‘re doing better than me, I don‘t know the authors at all in some cases! 😂 2mo
squirrelbrain I agree - I didn‘t like it *and* I don‘t like being confused! 2mo
Kitta @squirrelbrain My ex used to make fun of my need to understand what was happening in books, movies, plays, everything. I just don‘t like not knowing! Unless it‘s a mystery. Then I like to guess, but at least the timelines make sense in those! 2mo

I have finally completed the #bookerprize longlist!
I wish I could say I finished on a high but, alas.... ? This had its moments but, goodness, did it test my patience! Many of the "events" happen off the page, in the great chunks of time between chapters, which makes the languorous prose / long-windedness (depending on how fed up I was) all the more frustrating. And I really could have done without that epilogue.

quietlycuriouskate And after 400+ pages I still don't get why Gaston and Lucienne's marriage was meant to be such an epic love. Because they held hands a lot? 🤷 7mo
Ruthiella Congratulations on reading the entire list! 7mo
kspenmoll Congrats on completing the list! 7mo
JenP Congrats on finishing it. This was probably one of my least favorites on the list. 7mo

I am picking myself up off the floor, a mess of emotions and holding my baby tighter after finishing this. This is a masterpiece and a totally justifiable Booker prize winner. Marketed as dystopian but in reality it is close to home for many, it follows an Irish family living under an ever worsening regime and tackles the horrifying reality of “it won‘t happen here until it does”. I can not recommend this more. #prophetsong #bookerprize #paullynch

suvata definitely a 5-star read 7mo
Jari-chan Really close to home, that's why this is so scary 😟 7mo
DebinHawaii This one really wrecked me! 😩 But it was very good. 7mo
