Some unflattering #firstimpressions of Anne in a 1908 review of Anne of Green Gables in the New York Times Saturday Review of Books.
@CrowCAH @LeahBergen #150pnpcovers

LeahBergen Well, that‘s just plain rude. 😆 6y
CrowCAH Hmm that‘s not very nice. Every story has been done before, it‘s just how each author wants to portray it. Authors, myself included, borrow from what we‘ve read and watched and experienced. 6y

readinginthedark I guess I get it, even though I don‘t agree. This is basically like someone saying “It‘s not very realistic for a child of that age and level of education” now. The formal tone of the review makes it sound harsher than it is, maybe. 6y
Ddzmini Hello I was just notified that I am one of your Litsy pen pals my email is ddzmini@yahoo.com I can not wait to get started 😋📖 6y

One of my all-time favourite picture books. So quirky and charming. There are several mini-stories about the #neighbours.
Ian and Baby Jade live at #4
Kelly (she's a bit messy) lives at #5
The bugs live at #6. They like to bump and bash.
Philip, who likes making things, lives at #7.
If you buy books for kids between 3-6, this is a fun one!

LeahBergen I like the pink house at # 5. 😀 6y
CrowCAH Looks like a cute read! 6y

Poems of Felicia Hemans | Felicia Dorothea Browne Hemans
post image

Felicia Hemans (1793-1835) was one of the most popular poets of the #Regency period. Mostly forgotten today, she was as famous as Wordworth and Byron, back in the day. Here's her poem praising "The Homes of England." digital.library.uoen.edu/women/Hemans/records/homes.html

TheAnitaAlvarez Cool! I‘ll look her up, women writers before the XIXth century are so hard to find! 6y
readinginthedark Ooh, interesting! 6y
LeahBergen Wow! I haven‘t heard of her! 👍🏻 6y
CrowCAH Oh wow cool! Never read any Regency poetry! 6y
merelybookish @TheAnitaAlvarez @readinginthedark @LeahBergen @CrowCAH Her work is considered pretty sentimental by today's standards. But if you look in any poetry anthologies from before 1900, she's usually in there. 6y

Brideshead Revisited | Evelyn Waugh

Like Charles Ryder, I fell in love with Brideshead. (Favourite book adaptation ever!)

CrowCAH Heard of this book, but haven‘t read it yet. Seems intriguing! 6y
LeahBergen I‘ve read it but never watched this adaptation. 😮 6y
merelybookish @LeahBergen I watched it before reading the book. It's such a faithful adaptation the book kind of paled in comparison. 😮 Plus, young Jeremy Irons. ❤️ 6y

Dragon Sebastian 💙 6y
merelybookish @sprainedbrain it's about 12 hours long so it's not a minor undertaking. But I'm sure you'd enjoy it! ☺️ 6y
