Persuasion | Jane Austen

I‘m enjoying browsing everyone‘s posts for the #150PnPCoverParty while reading Chapters 11-20 of Persuasion to discuss with my mom and niece next week. We‘re slowly rereading Austen‘s works and discussing them. So far, #estates , #money , and #neighbors have all played a big role in this one!

readinginthedark @LeahBergen That‘s true! This one stands out even more, I think, or earlier on. In this middle part, Austen really distinguishes the differences between the living spaces in Kellynch, Uppercross, and Lyme before she even gets to Bath! But you‘re right—all three are big factors in her novels! And thanks! We‘re having fun with it. 😊 (edited) 6y

readinginthedark I‘ve never read anything else by P.D. James. I feel like I would have liked this one more if I were actually spending time with Elizabeth and Darcy, but she didn‘t reflect the original characters in my opinion. She writes well, and it was okay. This was kind of a bummer comment—sorry! 6y

KVanRead @readinginthedark Oh I totally agree. She is a master of crime and police procedural but I‘m not sure the style of those fit very well with PnP. Though I enjoy thinking that she must also be an Austen fan.😊 6y

readinginthedark Oh, totally! I read an interview with her a while back, and she was saying that the reason she wrote this was because of how much she loves Austen, which is cool. 6y

I would love to visit the Russian #estates described in Anna Karenina. I don‘t know what it is, but old Russia seems like a fairy tale to me. Minus the awful societal problems.

Hately Castle, Victoria, BC, Canada. It's used as the X-Mansion for the X films. My whole childhood I wanted so badly to go to Xavier's School for the Gifted Youngsters and learn to be an X-Men.

This castle has also been used as Lex Luther's mansion (Smallville), and the Queen family mansion (Arrow).

MiyakoBunny I‘m still trying to plan out my itinerary, but for sure Toronto. I‘m trying to map 🗺 out historical sites in conjunction to whatever cool events may be going on up in your neck of the woods at the time 😄. Right now I honestly feel like a babe in the woods😅 6y

This is a lovely book that chronicles the magnificent country estates of a suburban enclave outside of Philadelphia, and my neighborhood (although my home is not an estate, alas!) One of the most famous is Ardrossan because of the owner‘s daughter, Hope Montgomery Scott. She is said to have been the model for the lead character in “A Philadelphia Story”, played in movies by Katherine Hepburn and then by Grace Kelly. #estates #150PnPCoverParty

DivineDiana @CrowCAH Sometimes for charity Home Tours, but unfortunately, many have been destroyed. Ardrossan still stands but a very controversial sale of a some of the 740 acres recently took place to construct new homes. (edited) 6y
