Every year I pick a book that is @ 1,000 pages and begin on Jan. 1. My goal is 100 pgs/week, done by mid-March! I alternate fiction and nonfiction. 2022 is a fiction year for me; I've chosen the tagged book (1,144 pgs). Do you have your own chunkster you want to tackle? Do you want encouragement on your journey? Join me in the #chunksterchallenge2022 ! There's no time limit, no requirements, no specific book to read. Just cheers to the finish!

CoverToCoverGirl So excited! I think this will be a mostly fiction chunkster challenge year for me! 😁 However I‘m not entirely set on my picks as of yet. 4y
melissajayne Yes I am 4y
JenReadsAlot Yep I'm joining you again this year, but need to pick my book yet! 4y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think I need to join this one for 2022. Now I just need to pick a book. 🤔 4y
Mollyanna Although I am still working on this years book, I am in for next year too. I‘ll need to think about my choice, but it‘ll be non-fiction 4y
squirrelbrain I may join in…planning on reading A Suitable Boy next year, with @Lindy as a #buddyread so it would definitely count as a chunkster! 4y
Amiable @squirrelbrain That definitely counts! And it‘s also a really good book —that was my chunkster pick about 6 years ago. 4y
Amiable @JenReadsAlot @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Mollyanna @squirrelbrain @Lindy @Dostoyes Yay! I‘ll add you all to the tag list for encouragement posts. (edited) 4y
slategreyskies I‘m excited about tackling Kristin Lavransdatter with you for this challenge, @Amiable !! :) 4y
Amiable @slategreyskies Me too! This one has been on my TBR for several years! 4y
MaureenMc I definitely want to tackle a chunkster this year, maybe more than one. Count me in! (although I haven‘t finalized my pick yet, still waffling 😁) 4y
Lcsmcat Count me in! I‘m not sure which book yet, but I loved doing it this year. 4y
Amiable @MaureenMc @Lcsmcat Great! Welcome aboard! 🙂 4y
IndoorDame I definitely want to join! I have so many chunksters on my shelf and I‘m terrible about following through with finishing them! I‘ll work on choosing one this month week 😁 4y
rockpools I‘d like to join you again 😊. Think I‘m finally getting over my chunksterphobia! 4y
Amiable @rockpools Hooray! That is literally my whole goal for doing this challenge—to make the chunksters less intimidating! I‘m so happy. 💃🏻🕺 4y
Lcsmcat I‘m thinking Don Quixote. Anyone interested in joining me? 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Les Miserables has been on my to-read list for a long time. I was thinking about finally reading that one, maybe. 4y
JenReadsAlot @Riveted_Reader_Melissa That's the first one that came to me as well! 4y
Lindy @squirrelbrain I‘m still keen on A Suitable Boy in 2022. Not in the early part of the year, however, since I still have a long way to go with healing from my brain injury. I will let you know when I‘m back to reading. 🤗 4y
Megabooks I will probably join in mid year! 4y
catiewithac It's not 1000 pages, but I need help making it through Moby Dick 4y
Amiable @catiewithac Absolutely join us! It‘s about tackling a chunkster and making it through to the end! And it may not be super hefty in size, but “Moby Duck” is definitely a challenge. Welcome! 4y
Amiable @Megabooks I will keep you in the tag list so you just jump in whenever you‘re ready! 4y
JuniperWilde @Amiable I am keen to read Kristin L 4y
squirrelbrain Of course @Lindy - I look forward to reading it with you once you feel up to it. 4y
CarolynM I failed again this year (it really wasn't a non fiction year for me, I was too much in need of entertainment and distraction) but I'm going to try to pick up where I left off with US Grant in the new year and hope for a better outcome 4y
Amiable @JuniperWilde Excellent! @slategreyskies and I would love the company! 4y
Amiable @CarolynM I hear you —my brain has been all over the place in the past few months. It‘s been taking me a long time to finish any books. I‘ll keep you on the tag list for encouragement! 🙂 4y
Jess861 It's not quite 1000 pages but I've been staring at The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett on my bookshelf for quite some time. Would love to try and get through it in 2022. Trying to get through a 913 page book with a 5 year old and a 2 year old will be quite the challenge 😄! 4y
Kelly326 @GinaKButler and I are ready!! We have our chunksters for this year picked already!! Can‘t wait to start!! 4y
MaureenMc I‘ve finally decided. Going to tackle The Eighth Life. I really want to concentrate less on my book number goal this year, and choose books I‘ve been wanting to read, even if they‘re “too long.” 🤞😁 (edited) 4y
GinaKButler Yay! @Kelly326 are reading Don Quixote, The Stand, Atlas Shrugged, and one of the Chernow biographies in 2022! 4y
Amiable @MaureenMc That‘s exactly why I started doing this as a challenge to myself! I realized I was consistently reaching past the big books and grabbing the shorter ones just to hit a self-imposed “book total” every year. So I decided to purposely challenge myself to read at least one super chunkster every year. Good for you! 4y
Amiable @GinaKButler @kelly326 You might have a reading buddy —it looks like @Lcsmcat is considering “Don Quixote” as well! 4y
Amiable @Jess861 That definitely counts as a chunkster! And we should spot you another 200 pages on top of that for the challenge of reading it around your little ones! 😀 Welcome aboard! 4y
Amiable @GinaKButler Which Chernow bio are you guys reading? 4y
GinaKButler @Amiable I think we‘re leaning toward Washington. (The other option is Hamilton). Join us? 4y
Amiable @GinaKButler I have actually read both of those already! (I LOVED “Washington.”) I own “Titan” and haven‘t read it yet. Although it‘s “only” 832 pages so I wouldn‘t pick it for my own official challenge choice. But I do want to tackle that one at some point too. I think I also own “The Warburgs,” which might be a similar length. (edited) 4y
CoverToCoverGirl It‘s an EXCELLENT read @GinaKButler and so is Hamilton. 4y
Mollyanna I loved Washington too @GinaKButler. The Warburgs looks intriguing. I may to gift it to myself for Christmas 🤶 😉 4y
TheAromaofBooks Yes!!! I have several chunksters I've been putting off - I'm planning to significantly lower my GR reading goal to help me mentally tackle these - sometimes wanting to hit the GR number means I put off the longer books!! 4y
Amiable @TheAromaofBooks Exactly!! Last year I actually set my GR reading goal at 1. One book. Which I finished on Jan. 2. After that it was all gravy. 😀 There are so many really good big books that I‘d been avoiding because I could read 4 others that were short but helped me inflate my book count. I finally realized how ridiculous that was. That‘s why I now purposely seek out 1,000+ page books for this challenge! (edited) 4y
Lcsmcat @GinaKButler @Kelly326 I‘d love to join your discussions of Don Quixote if that‘s ok. 4y
AmyG I‘m in as I so want to read this chunkster @MaureenMc Want to discuss when we finish? (edited) 4y
catiewithac I'm going for 4y
Amiable @catiewithac Very nice! You‘ll be in the Multiple Chunksters Club! 4y
MaureenMc @AmyG Sure thing! 👍 4y
Tineke I want to participate too. I want to read my biggest book at 1474 pages. 4y
Tineke When I finish that one, I'll read at 1448 pages. 4y
Amiable @Tineke Welcome to the Chunkster Crew! “A Suitable Boy” is one of my favorite chunksters! I also read “Gone With The Wind,” but it was many years ago. I should probably give it another go soon. You are in for a treat with those two! (edited) 4y
tokorowilliamwallace Interesting methodology, but I highly doubt I can read 100 pages of something a week; supremely easy for most serial readers. I have way too many chunksters I have both already started and which I've recently bought. A fellow reader with whom we have some mutual respect for each other just completed Murakami's chunkster, and I have to look into it to figure out if I think I would like it and the literary themes and subject matter it incorporates. 4y
BookNAround I think I‘d like to tackle The Tale of Genji this year. 4y
Amiable @tokorowilliamwallace I can‘t speak for everyone, but I‘m not a serial monogamous reader. I always have at least 4-5 books going at a time, usually at least half of them nonfiction. For this challenge, though, I pick one specific book and pledge to read 100 pgs/week until it‘s done. While simultaneously reading my other books. That works for me. It doesn‘t work for everyone, which is fine. The goal is just to finish a chunkster of your choice. 🙂 4y
Amiable @BookNAround Excellent! Glad to have you back again! 🙂 4y
IndoorDame I‘ve decided I‘ll be doing Les Miserables. I started it a few years ago, and was really enjoying it before I stalled out. Definitely time to take another crack at it. 4y
Amiable @IndoorDame Awesome! We'll all cheer you on to the finish this time. 🙂 4y
tokorowilliamwallace @amiable, what if I did the sixth volume in Outlander, with its glorious 1400 pages of a highlander observing the American Revolution for the challenge? It's pretty, has a snowflake on its cover, and 'snow' in the title, so a 12 days of Christmas read? 4y
Amiable @tokorowilliamwallace You can read whatever you‘d like! That sounds grand. 🙂 4y
Bookwormjillk I missed your post. I‘m in again. I plan to read 4y
Amiable @Bookwormjillk Yay! Welcome back, Jill! 4y
erzascarletbookgasm I‘m in for 2022 again. Please tag me. Now to select a book. 😉 4y
melissajayne I‘m in for 2022 as well. A Promised Land for sure; I‘m thinking I might have one or two more after that. 4y
tokorowilliamwallace @amiable, I just thought of two other options: William T. Vollman's Europe Central, and St. Augustine's 1400-page civitate dei (which I had excited started at the time, eager to make some historical-literary-thought influence with. 4y
tokorowilliamwallace @Amiable, I started The Warburgs a while back, too! I don't currently have it with, but I gotta get back to it. 4y
Smarkies I have a couple I would like to tackle this year - the second part of a Churchill biography as well as A Dance with the Dragons. Please tag me. 😁 4y
Amiable @Smarkies Will do! Welcome to the chunkster crew! 🙂 4y
Blackink_WhitePaper @Amiable Recently I came across this challenge. It is very interesting. I have not tried reading any chunkster books though I have many on my TBR. I want to read pillars of the earth and Anna Karenina this year. I will start this from Feb. thank you for hosting. Is there any chunkster buddy read? (edited) 4y
Amiable @Blackink_WhitePaper Welcome! I am not sure if anyone else is tackling those particular chunksters this year to start a buddy read. Everyone picks their own and we read at our own pace. If you haven‘t read any books of these size yet, I‘d recommend that you start first with “Pillars of the Earth” —it‘s chunky, but it‘s very readable and you will likely fly through it! (edited) 4y
Blackink_WhitePaper @Amiable Thank you so much 💐☺️👍🏻 Then I will start with the Pillars 🤓 4y
