Fat Girl Walking: Sex, Food, Love, and Being Comfortable in Your SkinEvery Inch of It | Brittany Gibbons

Dear person holding Fat Girl WalkingFirst of all, thanks for picking up this copy of my first book. I hope you buy itand not just because each purchase gets me one step closer to buying the leather pants of my dreams.I hope you buy Fat Girl Walking because I want to start a conversation. Or continue a conversation, one I inadvertently started a while ago when I took my clothes off on a stage in front of 700 people. A lot of people thought I was awesome for doing that. A lot of others thought a size 18 woman had absolutely no business showing off her body. Unfortunately for them, I've made it my personal mission on my blog, in social media, on television, and now in this amazing book you're holding, to destroy the ridiculous myth that every woman who is overweight hates her body and herself. I, Brittany Gibbons, and the Curvy Girls I speak to every day on the internet, beg to differ. We love our bodies. We love fashion. We are in loving relationships, having lots of sex. We aren't just a fetish, we're normal women. Sure, sometimes we doubt ourselves, we're not robots, but not anymore than EVERY OTHER WOMAN ON THE PLANET. See, Fat Girls aren't freaks of nature. We're just like you. Maybe we are you.Fat Girl Walking is a collection of stories from my life, my thoughts about the issues that I have faced as a woman, wife, mom, daughter, daughter-in-law, and internet personality in regards to my weight. I have tried to be as honest as I possibly couldapologies in advance to my husband and parents, but hopefully any discomfort you feel is quickly replaced by laughter. The insecure texts to my husband and summer camp hijinks are hilarious if I do say so myself. And I also ask some tough questions, things like "What if my husband weighs less than I do?" and "Is my body hate ruining my daughter's life?" Read Fat Girl Walking and let's start having these conversations. No pressure, but we may just save all of womankind.Love,Brittany

I almost always google author pics when I read books, and post a fair number of them in my reviews on Litsy. The title caught my eye and I listened. Witty and relatable. I must warn you ⚠️⚠️⚠️ Brittany has NO filter, so expect some explicit storytelling. 2/5😮s

Megabooks @peaknit Same here! I did the audiobook, and it was so good! 6y
peaKnit @Megabooks yes, I listened also, very riveting. I work in Corrections in WI, so that this was based in Milwaukee was heartbreaking. 6y

You know, I‘ve kind of hit a low point this year. I‘ve been sick; my self image of my body has taken a beating.

This book came at the right time. Brittany is a great role model. I want to feel as beautiful as she does. I love her sense of humor too!

RaimeyGallant Sounds like a fabulous read. 6y
Megabooks @RaimeyGallant It really was. Fantastic impulse Amazon Prime checkout. 👍🏻👍🏻 6y

A very enjoyable and funny read! I failed to finish all the prompts on time for #booked2018 in January-March, so this is my belated pick for a body positive memoir. I‘m glad I read it. Her story about her journey to self-acceptance was great to read. I like Brittany Gibbons in the same way I like Jen Lancaster - for her straight talk, sense of humor, and ability to make her own missteps hilarious.

Cinfhen Yay😁 glad you‘re enjoying the prompts 6y

#booked2018 I really wanted to enjoy this book. I did not. It was basically a monolog of her life instead of making people feel better about themselves. I can see talking about some of her background but should have had a different title like 'Surviving life as a fat girl: My biography". I found some parts gross: like talking of her dogs period, exploits from camp, etc. I'm not a prude, can take a good joke but her jokes were not good. My opinion.

alisiakae Sorry this one didn‘t work out! 6y
euphemy @4thhouseontheleft Thanks. There will be other good ones. 😁 6y

I wanted to like this book, truly I did, but I just couldn‘t. I didn‘t find Gibbons funny or even very interesting. Some of the stories she told were gross and had no point that I could tell. I generally finish books, but I gave up and returned this to the Library unfinished.

KathyWheeler I must add this: if you have a bad body image as a teenager, I think there are less drastic ways to address that problem than becoming a teenage “ho,” as Gibbons describes herself at a pretty young age. (edited) 6y

No earth shattering revelations here but this was an interesting memoir with a body positive message.

Answering the question why am I still overweight 😐

Tamra I am not overweight, but I certainly weigh more now in middle age than I did in the three previous decades. I love cooking and food; it is pleasure, adventure, and satisfaction! And its true that the skinny jeans aren‘t as much fun as eating. 👌🏾 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks And exercise sucks!!!! 😑 6y

WhatDeeReads Nothing but truth here. I like to eat. I don‘t like to exercise. That‘s it. And it really isn‘t any of anyone else‘s business. 🤷🏾‍♀️ 6y

1.) Coffee, tea, apple cider. It all depends on my mood.
2.) Fuzzy socks
3.) Hmmm... Yankee Candle Sage & Citrus, and Midsummer's Night. Better Homes & Garden Frasier Fir, and Warm Rustic Woods.
4.) I don't have a particular favorite. I crave different things at different times. Though I've been partial to Kit Kat minis lately.
5.) Disney stuff, used to collect dolls. And books... lots and lots of books

Coming to terms with a recent excessive weight gain, I hoped this book would be helpful. It was her journey and helpful to her to share it. I can't discount that.

I enjoyed the book, and her REAL view on how being overweight feels. Even the things we don't want to admit, and may think we are alone in. I hated how she knocked every popular diet plan. Being thin doesn't mean your healthy, she should have used her platform to promote health not being complacent

KellyHerself Then you misunderstood what her message was. The author is promoting not hating your body, no matter what size it is. It's not about fat, thin, or "being complacent." She wanted herself and others to know its okay to not hate your body, even if there are things you want to change about it. 8y
PrezBookster @KellyInLA I get that.. But I think she could have done a little more with her platform. I envy her self appreciation and genuinely felt her feelings on leading by example with her daughter. 8y
