I used to read till 2 years back but then pandemic happened and it changed everything. I still bought books but was unable to concentrate because of studies and surroundings. I would always pick up books(audiobooks, ebooks), read for few pages and kept it aside.
This year in Jan I bought 8 new books and pledge to get out of this slump as soon as possible. (Pretty late) I started with the shortest book to get started and it's going pretty well😊

I'm having some pretty major reader's block due to brain fog and general blahs - can anyone give me a recommendation to get me out of my slump? I've been reading a lot of meta-fiction lately, like Grady Hendrix and Seanan McGuire, but I'm up for anything so long as it isn't overly realistic. Don't mind depressing so long as it's in a sf/f context, but some humor might be nice too. Free kitty picture as my tax.

Molly_the_mezzo I have access to Overdrive, Hoopla, and Kindle Unlimited, btw. My current book budget is limited but not non-existent, so I can purchase something, but preferably not like a 15 book series at $20 each or anything like that. 2y
TEArificbooks When I get into a reading slump I try to read a genre I haven‘t read in a while. I also will read a Harlequin since they make good palette cleansers. They are light easy reads with happy endings. Or I will read a narrative nonfiction since they read like fiction and I learn something. Therefore I feel productive. 2y
TEArificbooks If I feel like laughing I go with the Stephanie Plum series. 2y

Molly_the_mezzo Stephanie Plum is a great thought! I usually read a lot of cozies and I've been avoiding them because I'm supposed to be working on mine and I have been heavily neglecting it for like three weeks (lol?) but that has a vaguely similar tone without as much likelihood to remind me of my negligence! 2y
KathyWheeler Something with short chapters always works for me. I used to read Robert Parker‘s Spenser series for this because of that and because they aren‘t too dense. 2y
Prairiegirl_reading How about a psalm for the wild built by Becky Chambers? It‘s short and sweet. You could probably get through it in one sitting. 2y
melissanorr More paranormal than SF but incredibly funny: Honey Badger Chronicles by Shelly Laurenston. 2y

I have had a serious reading block the last 8 or so days. 😔😫 Maybe flipping through a magazine will get me going again. 🤞🏻

Saw this on Instagram and it made me wonder....what kind of reader are you?!

I would say I am a mix of a few of them: some books I finish too soon, I do collect books, I sometimes take a long time to pick a book I want to read, and my students would tell you that I read 24/7 (in fact one told me last week that I need to “cool it” with the book reading, 😂)

Beta-reading for a friend. A 1920s story with a mystery in it. Definitely up my alley.
Unfortunately, l think this story would need a lot more work.

Cinfhen Good luck sharing that news with your friend.... 6y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Yes, good luck - that‘s a difficult task 6y
JazzFeathers @Cinfhen @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled ln part, l've already talked with her about this, since l've send her a detailed critique of the first two chapters. We can talk about these things, that's why l accepted to beta-read 6y

I stared at this display in the library for quite a few minutes trying to figure out the significance of it. Just now I looked at the picture and realized what was going on. That took a bit of time.

Chelleo This is when you need to be able to enlarge pics! 6y

How long does it take you to decide to bail on a book?

Miss_Kim And the right to go to the library as often as you want 😁 (Great list!) 6y
S3V3N @Miss_Kim I agree. LOL 6y
RebelReader Usually around 50 pages, but sometimes I'll read to about 100 6y

S3V3N @RebelReader That is what I was thinking too. I was wondering if I was giving up too soon. I've even tried stopping and going back to it. 6y
julesG Around three chapters. But I've also bailed on books far later, when the content became repetitive or there was the umpteenth weird illogical plot twist. 6y
S3V3N @julesG So true. 6y
booksensation It‘s a hard decision for me.. I try to read as much of it but if I find myself bored or not interested in picking it up or I do but it‘s not because I want to then I know it‘s time to bail.. 6y
S3V3N @booksensation I feel guilty when I don't even want to pick it up. I second guess myself like, did I even give it a chance? 6y

#tfw you accidentally hit "RENEW ALL" instead of "RENEW SELECTED" on your library's website ????? #bookishproblems

Bookworm83 I hate that!!!!! I did that recently and messed up all my perfectly laid plans for having my library books as long as possible 😩😩 7y
Lola @Bookworm83 Ditto!!! I have it all planned out and when I mess up and shorten my time by even a day or two I'm all 😤😤😤😤😤😤 7y

This has been me for the past five days with a bunch of stupid stressors leaving me too agitated for reading, audiobooks, EVEN LITSY!!! But today things are looking a little less crazy, I started a new audiobook, and I'm getting caught up on Serial Reader. Hallelujah, I think I'm on my way back!

LeahBergen Yayyy!! 👍🏼👍🏼 8y
