The writing was very good and the author maintained her comedic style from beginning to end, but I guess dark-comedy aging serial killer stories just aren‘t my thing this weekend. I was expecting this to be more cozy murder mystery, but Lottie‘s murdering ways stopped being funny for me long before she reached her last effort. It‘s me, such a mood reader here😛

Never in my life did I expect to root for a serial killer.

This was fun! I really enjoyed Lottie's inner musings, her self-made moral compass, and how her advance age was now working against her.
Placing the daily life of a retiree alongside that of a serial killer creates such a distinctive backdrop.

If you're looking for a clever, gripping thriller infused with humour and wit, look no further.

I absolutely loved this book! Her humor had me laughing so hard at some points, and she was so witty! There was also a good amount of grusesomness as well. I saw some people said it wasn't a thriller because there was too much humor, and that's fair. But that is what made me love the character so much. She was funny, witty, and also had a few screws loose! It's a winning combination for me! I had a lot of fun reading this! 5/5

Imagine Joe from YOU as a geriatric woman who just wants to retire from the murdering already. She has bingo to play and snacks to make for church socials. Yeesh - can‘t an old lady get any peace?

It seems weird to type this, but this has the most likable serial killer I‘ve read. Our main character is just trying to enjoy her retirement, when a filmmaker visits her wanting to revisit her past. This was a very entertaining read, with humor and well written protagonist. I would have loved a little more development of the side characters, but definitely recommend this one! 4.5⭐️

I flew through this even though I wasn‘t entirely impressed. I thought there were more twists coming than there actually were. Definitely unique with the plot!

Lottie didn‘t set out to kill people, it just kind of happened that way. But she got away with it and is now retired and living in another town under a new name. Until someone comes knocking, stirring up her past, and she feels there‘s no choice but to kill again. Such a fun premise, but I found this really uneven. Parts were great, but this could‘ve been a much better book.

The things this woman could do at her age…so, I don‘t want to be a serial killer but I do hope I can get around like that when I‘m that old🤣🤣🤣All jokes aside, loved the book!!

Original, suspenseful, darkly funny, and just a lot of freaking fun! Lottie Jones is a fantastic, memorable, iconic character who you somehow (?!) want to root for. I‘m not sure I‘m ready to let her go! Cancel all other plans once you start this one - you won‘t want to put it down! #Aardvark #AardvarkBookClub

ICantImReading This totally made me want to revisit Teddy Crutcher and reread “For Your Own Good”! Coincidentally, our new puppy‘s name is also Teddy…🫣😆 (edited) 1mo

This book was so much fun to read. Yes it was a book about a serial killer. Yes she was older and had retired. Yes she starts killing again. But..... You may find yourself rooting for her to not get caught. To get away with everything. Just maybe you will like Lottie...

Grab this one. It's so good.

She retired from murdering people.

She decided she was done with murdering, but one day Plum, a podcaster, appeared at her door, asking questions about unsolved cases and she just couldn‘t let her go.

It‘s not as gruesome as it sounds, and Ms. Downing certainly knows how to write a good book. 5/5
