#sundayfunday
I just love this note from Moore at the end of this story💓

“I could not give Wally or her #contemporary agency, but what I could do was portray her as resilient, clever, loving, courageous, resourceful, and #funny. For me, even though it was a story of a fictitious character from literature & a cast of #historical figures, Anima Rising became Wally‘s book. For me, her memory has been a blessing.”

Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for the silliness right now.

Picked this up at the library today.

uncommonlycozies I just finished this the other day & loved it! If you‘re worried about the warnings read the ‘Afterward‘ at the end first. No spoilers. He also quits talking about said warnings 30% of the way through. Can‘t wait to hear your thoughts! 📚😊 4mo

first Moore book & I‘m loving it so far!
through myth, satire & some naked models, Moore challenges the male gaze & gives power. It‘s reclamation & even a bit of feminine energy #art #historicalfantasy #feminine #uncommon #bibliophile #catsoflitsy #dark

Utter chaos - but mostly in a good way. Wally (based on a real person) and Judith (based on a fictional character) shine in this tale of Klimt x Jung x Frankenstein. I‘d like to know more about the incorporation of Inuit culture into the story from someone of that background.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Gorgeous cover! I‘m impatiently waiting for the library to get this in. 5mo
vlwelser Are the painting reproductions in color? Because I read an ARC but I might need this if it's full color 5mo
BookishTrish @vlwelser they were b&w 5mo
vlwelser Thank you. No need to purchase for b&w 5mo

This book was so chaotic in the best way possible! A fever dream for sure. I always find it interesting when writers create somewhat fictional stories about real people. I don‘t even know how to explain this book. What I do know is that it is a really good book! There are trigger warnings as a heads up before the book starts.

This book is very odd but that's on brand for this author. Klimt, Schiele and Dr Frankenstein are all characters. I love books about painting and you never know what you're getting into with this dude. Reading this in Vienna was an extra bonus.

'Anima Rising' is darker than most Christopher Moore novels and even has an author's note with trigger warnings. It centers around the discovery of the bride of Frankenstein's monster, known as Judith within the book. Even though there is dark subject matter, humor, both light and dark, shines through. There are also historical figures, such as Gustav Klimt, Freud, and Jung. Hitler even makes an appearance. 4.5 stars.
