The epic saga of Israels earliest days and the people who fought to make it their homeThe Exodus was just one ship among many that carried survivors of the Holocaust to Palestine to establish a new nation. But the path that Jewish immigrants took to enter British-controlled Palestine was a difficult one, fraught with danger and political intrigue. The boat was intercepted by British forces and the refugees were placed in concentration camps.Uriss blockbuster novel traces the lives of the men and women who brave British naval blockades to help Israel come into being, from Ari Ben Canaan, who works tirelessly to smuggle in settlers, to Kitty Fremont, an American nurse drawn into a vast, tragic history. Weaving together fact and fiction, history and dramatic storylines, Exodus stands today as one of the most influential narratives of the founding of the State of Israel. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Leon Uris including rare photos from the authors estate.

This is one of those books that has a lot of historical significance, so I don't really regret reading it. But my god did Uris need a better editor. It just felt like he was trying to do 4 different things and not wholly succeeding at any of them. This also has one of THE MOST misleading summaries I've ever had the misfortune to encounter. Wouldn't recommend if you want to actually enjoy the story/the writing of the books you read.

The bestselling book in the U.S. in 1959 is a fictional account of the establishment of the state of Israel. It's pulpy and propagandy, with lots of exclamation points and wow does Uris really not like Arabs, but it holds the attention well.

Beautifully and excitingly written to tell the story of the birth of Israel. Readers should be warned it is from the Israeli perspective, but if you can identify bias and fact then the history can be understood objectively while enjoying the captivating tale that Leon Uris tells.

“Dov!”

Really compelling historical fiction about the creation of the state of Israel, although it is definitely biased as the Israeli narrative.
