Immortality: a Love Story
Immortality: a Love Story | Dana Schwartz
18 posts | 18 read | 10 to read
The eagerly-anticipated sequel to Dana Schwartz's Reese's Book Club Winter YA Pick and No.1 New York Times bestselling gothic romance, Anatomy: A Love StoryHazel Sinnett is alone. She's half-convinced the events of the year before - the immortality, Beecham's vial - were a figment of her imagination. She doesn't even know if Jack is alive or dead. All she can really do is run her free clinic, helping people and maintaining Hawthornden Castle as it starts to decay around her. When saving a life leads to her arrest, Hazel seems doomed to rot in prison until a message intervenes: Hazel has been specifically requested to be the personal physician of Princess Charlotte, the sickly daughter of King George IV. Soon Hazel is dragged into the glamour and romance of a court where everyone has something to hide, especially the ladies of the princess's close circle, who never seem to stay hurt for long . . .Meanwhile, Jack Currer has been trying to find a way to die. He's been traveling across the Atlantic, hoarding any information that could cure his immortality and let him spend a normal life with Hazel. When he hears that Beecham has died, he immediately goes to London to find out how he achieved it - and reunites with Hazel once again. As their search for the immortality cure entangles them more and more with the British court, Hazel and Jack realize that a life together is not the only thing at stake. Malicious forces are at work in the monarchy, and they are very interested in living forever . . . Praise for Anatomy: A Love Story:'Irreverent, intelligent, and smart. Dana Schwartz is one of the brightest of the next generation of young writers' Neil Gaiman'A fast-paced, utterly engrossing tale of mystery, romance, and cadavers' Alwyn Hamilton'Diabolically delightful. I adore this gothic feminist historical fiction duology with an alchemical bent. Anatomy is a beautiful book & this follow-up was done extremely well. They incorporate science and horror delightfully, and I would definitely want any YA readers in my life to have them - and would also recommend to adults who can see some of a strong feminist dark and twisty science girly in themselves.

LiteraryinLawrence That cover is really striking! 2mo
currentlyreadinginCO The first book in the duology has a dress laid out as a heart and then this one has the brain, really a fascinating couple of books @LiteraryinLawrence 2mo

Slowly but surely making progress with this book while being a full time college student and a full time CNA. 💪🏻💙

It was a rare gift, Hazel thought, to be surrounded by intelligent people who actually cared what you had to say.

This was a little slower than the first book. I think my biggest struggle was that if I were Hazel, I would have chosen the other guy. The love triangle needed to be expanded as it was a bit of an afterthought. The ending just left me wondering what would happen to him....

An enjoyable sequel with intrigue and romance. The first book ended on a cliffhanger, and I was happy for the characters to have closure. I'm definitely looking forward to reading anything else Dana Schwartz writes.

Started listening to this on my way to work today. I listened to the first book on a whim last year and it was a pleasant surprise for me. I finished the prologue and first chapter this morning and that prologue has me very intrigued.

My husband listens to Noble Blood. And he thought I would love these books. He was right. They are a great love story. And Immortality made for a perfect relaxing weekend read.

Hubby still hasn‘t recovered from his flu. I‘m hoping he naps a lot so I get to spend time with this book this weekend. I loved the first one.

This is the conclusion to The Anatomy duology. I've enjoyed both books. In this one Hazel ends up as the private surgeon of the princess Charlotte, whose sickness so far no one has been able to cure.
Loved the ending 🩷

I'm really enjoying my #currentread 📚. I may even like it better than the first book so far. Unfortunately, I've been a bit too busy to get in much reading lately, but hopefully, I can find some time today. What is everyone reading right now? Anything new that you've absolutely loved? #readingrecommendations

Sitting at my kids' homeschool co-op reading while they're in classes and thought I'd post a quick reading update. After reading 8 nonfiction books in preparation for my trip to New Orleans I'm in need of something lighter. So it's good timing for my newest arrival, Immortality. It's the sequel to Anatomy which I loved so I'm really excited to read this. Maybe not the light, fluffy read I was looking for, but now that I have it I want to read it.

What a great follow up to the first of this series! I know a lot of people has mixed feeling about the original story but I was absolutely delighted with the first and second books of this series. I also listened to it on audible and the reader is perfect for this character!! Excited to see where the open ended ending takes us in the third book. Too bad we have to wait another year 😩

booksandsympathy I listened to the first book in a whim last autumn and really enjoyed it. I'm on the holds list for this audiobook, but it'll be a while before it's available. 14mo

I'm thrilled that my expectations were exceeded in this follow up, though it took half the book to get to the immorality theme. It's a mix of ground breaking history and fantasy, of narcissistic villains, of love, loss, and refound love. It's perfectly executed to tie up all storylines while leaving it wide open to go from a duology to a trilogy. Let's hope that happens!

A fantastic follow up to Anatomy: A Love Story (thank goodness, because the ending was a total killer of a cliffhanger). I'm in love with Dana Schwartz's world & could this continue as an infinite series at this point. Gorgeous cover & a great blend of historical fiction with a touch of sci-fi. Gripping & entertaining. The historical content was lovely, both imaginative & intriguing. Great story, wonderful characters, & atmospheric writing. Loved.

This is the conclusion of a duology, the first of which I read back in Feb. While I do remember the gist of the storyline of the first, I do wish I had been able to read them back-to-back just to have all the smaller details fresh. Hazel is a young surgeon living in Edinburgh who is determined to break into a man‘s world. Following the hanging of Jack, the love of her life, she throws herself back into her work of healing until she is arrested 🔻

robinb for treating one of her patients. She is finally freed to treat Princess Charlotte in London and goes from despair to the glamour at court. As she meets new friends, she is also drawn into a secret society of immortals (who she is finally able to confirm as real), who invite her to join them as they strive to “guide” their country in the proper direction. And so begins her struggles with literal life/death decisions 🔻 1y
robinb of following her heart or her mind…choosing what‘s hard or what‘s easy. I enjoyed this one but not quite as much as its predecessor. I felt a disconnect from the mains, especially during their lives in London. They seemed “off” from how I originally saw them previously. And as the storyline wrapped up, it seemed too convenient and quick, and the epilogue very broad and general…not as satisfying as I would have liked/expected. 🔻 1y
robinb But still, well-written and entertaining. 4/5⭐️ Special mention of #coverlove for both books. The subtlety of how they echo the storylines of the books is phenomenal. Here‘s the first if interested. 1y
