THE FUTURE HAS ALREADY HAPPENED. It's expected to be an excursion like any other. There is nothing in the records to indicate that anything out of the ordinary will happen. A bus will take them to the mall. They will have an hour or so to look around. Perhaps buy something, try their food. A minor traffic incident on the way back to the resort will provide additional interest - but the tour rep has no reason to expect any trouble. Until he notices that one of his party is missing. Most disturbingly, she is a woman who, according to the records, did not go missing. Now she is a woman whose disappearance could change the world. With breathtaking plot twists that ricochet through time, this is the most original conspiracy thriller you will read this year.

I wanted to like this book. The premise was so interesting, and the first couple of chapters really caught my attention. But, as many other readers have said, it was just too confusing. Too many terms and characters were only partially introduced. With more revision, I think this could have been a great book. As it is, I struggled to finish it.

8little_paws I got this for free at Book Riot Live. I have seen nothing but bad reviews on it... Think I will just throw it in the donation pile 7y

What to pack... I was thinking Swing Time, but it's such a large book to fit in my bag. One of these perhaps?

During the Book Riot Podcast with Jeff and Rebecca (which was hysterical) they gave away copies of this book! There was also a Bingo card - my favorite square was "Someone Flails/Muppet Arms" ?

So confusing! Honestly, this felt like reading an early draft of something with a whole lot of potential but a need of extensive editing. There were some great concepts & the writing is very good in parts, but the storyline is muddled & confused and it seemed to be leading to a big reveal that never really happened. Possibly I'm just a bit too dim but it left me wondering what on earth I'd just read.

Confusing book seems much less confusing after two of these beers...

NikkiA Btw, beer is chocolate & marshmallow flavour. This is less weird and way more delicious than it sounds. 8y
Laura317 @NikkiA Beer isn't my thing, but I'd try that! However, not sure it really would help THAT book be less confusing. I'm still trying to figure it out. 😂 8y
britt_brooke That beer sounds tasty! 8y

Amandajoy Where's the beer from? It sounds delicious! 8y
NikkiA @Amandajoy It's a New Zealand one, apparently it's a team effort between Good George brewery & Donovan's chocolate company :) 8y
NikkiA @Laura317 I still have no idea what's happening in this book. I feel like I would be enjoying it if I could just figure out what's going on... 8y

This seems like a pretty valid definition of Internet.

Laura317 That is one weird book. Let me know what you think. I was so confused! 8y
NikkiA @Laura317 I am also pretty confused so far... Was hoping it would all become clearer but looking at other people's reviews, I'm not so sure that'll happen! 8y

The hottest conspiracy thriller....what conspiracy? What PLOT??? Where is the story? I am honestly just mad at this book for wasting my time. Mad. At a book. Nothing really happens. Literally: Some stuff happens. Ooh, mystery! Wait, no. Not mystery at all....how disappointing. Later, the mystery is confirmed to be completely unmysterious.
I thought about throwing this two stars, but this book and I, we're still not talking. Don't bother.

HeatherBookNerd Hahahahaha I had certainly been mad at a book before. 8y
DGRachel Best. Review. Ever. 😂😂😂😂 8y
ZoeyPeacock I held on to the end... Wondering what magic trick the author was going to do to tie things together in so few pages. But no. Time travel and someone stole protein bars. ☹️ 8y

TheBookDream I felt the exact same way about the movie of the the same title stating Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. It's uncanny. I kept expecting something to happen, but nothing ever did, and the movie ended up being a black time sucking hole in my life. 8y

The_Literary_Jedi This book and I are still not talking...😂 I'm dying. Fantastic description for a review. I had heard the movie was terrible but nothing about the book so thanks for the heads up 8y
Shixam I completely understand this feeling. This is how I am with Falling Kingdoms and The Yard. And it only gets worse every time I think about them. So much potential. And yet so disappointing. 8y
Crash I felt the same way. 8y

I really don't have a clue what happened in this book. I got confused as to who was who throughout. It involved traveling in time travel reps, multiple versions of people and people pretending to be versions of people. It held my interest, but only because I was trying so hard to figure out what was going on. If somebody knows, please tell me!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I feel like I need to read this now and see if I can help figure it out! 8y
Laura317 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I wish you would! 8y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Laura317 I do need a mystery for my reading challenge this year...I'll look for it next time I stop by the library. I will add though, just looking at the reviews in Goodreads, you were not the only one confused by this story. 8y
ZoeyPeacock I don't think there is any figuring out the story. The pieces aren't there. 8y
Laura317 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'll be interested in your take! @Texreader @ZoeyPeacock Glad to know I'm not alone!! 8y

This quote makes me somewhat sad and relieved at the same time.

PatriciaU This is why social history fascinates me so. Diaries, letters, scrapbooks, and cookbooks are my favorite vehicles for understanding how someone lived. I recently bought a set of handwritten cookbooks kept by two sisters in Idaho over 60 years. Reading through them, I learned the history of their little town from the 1920s-1980s. Births, deaths, marriages, disasters...it was all there. 8y
Laura317 @PatriciaU That's so cool! I have my grandma's old cookbook. It is interesting to see her notes in it! 8y
ZoeyPeacock Hated this book but loved this quote. It reminded me of the idea of small history. 8y

Still not sure what I read if I'm honest with you. The ending left me scratching my head as to what the whole point of the story was. It reminds me of watching 2001 and not knowing what the hell it was all about except for a few vague bits that might have made sense at one point but not at another. It's original and very complex in the story line and it displays a wonderful imagination on the writers part.

Bailedbailed

I really tried but I finally had to bail on this one. With the author's insistence on keeping everything so vague and so "secret," it just made this book confusing and impossible to follow or even care about the story or the characters. I'm curious to hear what others think of it. The good news is that I'm now at 73% on Netgalley.

KrisConstantReader Read my full review and add me on Goodreads here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1715827338 8y
Laura317 I've got that in my net galley shelf. I'm trying to review everything I can there. 8y

Suzze @KrisConstantReader @Laura317 I mark my e-advances when they are from NG so I make sure to review them. Edelweiss seems much more relaxed about it, plus I'm pre approved for most publishers there. 8y
KrisConstantReader @Suzze I just keep track by checking my Netgalley shelf frequently, making sure to read and review before the publication date. I'm new to Netgalley but so far I haven't missed any. 8y
Suzze @KrisConstantReader Last time I looked I was at only 50%. For a long time I downloaded more than I could read. I'm much more selective now. 8y

Another new one from Netgalley...I think I just need to accept the fact that I'll never, ever catch up, lol, and just enjoy. Currently I'm at 65% there. This one looks like it might be pretty good.

Chessa Dude, didn't you get like 65 books at once or something?! If you have a 65% reviewal rating with THAT many books granted, I think you're doing something right! 👍 8y
KrisConstantReader @Chessa 63 books approved, 41 feedback sent, since June 15, the date I joined there. 8y
NerdyRev I try to stay at an 85% rating. I figured, yes I can have it, but there is only a limited number of reviews copies, so let another get it if I can't get to it. 8y
See All 12 Comments
KrisConstantReader @NerdyRev 85% is great! I have faith that I'll eventually get to all of them. A lot of them aren't being released until December and even later. So far I've been able to review all before the publication date, unless I received them after it was already past. 8y
Donna_sBookMinute A definite YES! 8y
KrisConstantReader @Donna_sBookMinute it does look intriguing! 8y
NerdyRev @KrisConstantReader No critique or criticism on my end. I hope it wasn't read that way. I was simply adding to the convo. I found having the higher percentage gets better access to the higher end titles. I also read them early, blog, but pre-date my blog to come out a month before the pub date on the book. Sometimes there is fine print w/galleys 8y
KrisConstantReader @NerdyRev no, I understood where you were coming from. I'm new to Netgalley, I'll take any advice. My problem was that I didn't think I'd get approved for many, I don't have a blog or anything, so I requested too many at the very beginning. Lesson learned. Once I get caught up I'll handle it a lot differently. 8y
Sue Given my woeful 38% , 65 is awesome :) 8y
KrisConstantReader @Sue just keep plugging away, you'll get there, one book at a time. I'm determined to hit 80% and beyond, soon. 8y
Chessa You're doing great! You'll be at 80%+ in no time! 8y
