An encyclopedia about cats, this book is dated (early 1990s), but still I learned much I read stories I‘d never read before like Puss n Boots (loved it!). I learned the various iterations of the plague were often blamed on witches. (TW: animal cruelty) As a result hundreds of thousands of cats were tortured and burned alive—perpetuating the plague because there were no cats to kill the rats carrying plague fleas. The dated info made this ⬇️

FlowerFairy Thank you for the TW! Animal abuse/cruelty is the one thing I cannot read. 2y
Nute Amazing, Karen! Though dated, it seems like a great source of information. The cover is stunning! 2y
Texreader @FlowerFairy The author is pretty good about giving the warning as well—for the worst of it she said to skip if necessary. The other section was on witchcraft, which was obviously going to be bad. It was only about 1% of the book thank heavens. 2y

Book coincidences always blow my mind. I just tonight read the story of Puss n Boots in the tagged book for the first time ever. And then I was finishing this Christmas short story by Louis May Alcott before I go to sleep when surprise! The girls in the story go see Puss n Boots at the theater. How does that even happen?

I would‘ve been so lost if I hadn‘t just read the story, too, as LMA describes part of the show.

Leila, thank you so much for the handmade Christmas card. It‘s so incredibly special! You are so talented! I thought it appropriate to take a photo of it with my cat book I‘m reading. ❤️🐈‍⬛🐈 @Catsandbooks

#wintergames2021 #mistletoemaniacs #festivephotochallenge #bookandchill

It‘s a warm night in south Texas so very hard to chill, literally, so I chilled figuratively with my #litsyatoz #letterQ book, hot chocolate, and a cookie I made today. It was lovely!

Here‘s a list of books in which Koko the cat solves mysteries. I‘ll have to see if I can find some.

AmyG These are fun cozy mysteries. 2y
LibrarianRyan that list has to be way longer than that. That seems way to short 2y
Texreader @LibrarianRyan Since this book was published in the 1990s and if the author was or is still alive, then I expect there would be more. It‘s funny how this book is written—as if readers only read it when it was published. She made no leeway for readings some 20+ years down the road, much less 10. 🤷‍♀️ It really shook me when she mentioned “tennis great Jimmy Connors” was a loving cat owner. Times have changed. LibrarianRyan @Texreader ahh that makes since. I remember there was a few years where there wasn‘t a new book and I thought she died. (I got her mixed up with another cat lady) and then her books started showing up again. 2y
Texreader @LibrarianRyan Do you recommend them? 2y
LibrarianRyan This series and the sneaky pie brown series. Both long big hits even with dog lovers. They are both cozy cat mysteries with devoted fans. Not my type of book but I have never had a patron complain when I recommend them. Plus they don‘t HAVE to be read in iorder. 2y
rockpools I haven‘t read any of these in years, but for a long while they were my go-to reliable comfort read. I should start at the beginning one day! 2y

There are poems and excerpts and short stories in this encyclopedia of cats. As a result, I am reading for the first time Edgar Allan Poe‘s short story, The Black Cat. I can‘t say I care for it very much given the cruelty in it. There should have been trigger warnings, but I don‘t think such things existed in the 1990s when this book was compiled.

I‘m in the homestretch now for #litsyatoz. My last two letters A and Q are underway! Z got cut off. I read Zombie Party for scarathlon. Books in bold are wishful thinking to read by year‘s end. Not too shabby for having about a 3-month slump. But jury selection in my big trial starts this week, so how much spare time I‘m going to have is questionable. Hoping to win the trial first and foremost and if I can, meet most of my 2021 Litsy challenges.

Bookwormjillk Good luck 🍀 2y

I‘ve had this book, a perfect gift for me, since the 1990s and only now reading it. #litsyatoz is the perfect excuse! And who knew? It‘s the a-to-z‘s about cats!

Next up! Only two books left for #Litsyatoz—letter A is underway and now I‘m starting #letterQ. My cat is looking skeptically at it.

I love LibraryThing sometimes. I just put all of my books in alphabetical order to find whether I owned any that start with the remaining letters for my #litsyatoz challenge. Lo and behold, I have books for every remaining letter, most of which work with #scarathlon too! Here‘s hoping I can get to them.

TheAromaofBooks Oooo I might have to check out The Xibalba Murders - that may be just the book I need for this challenge! 😂 X and Z are the only letters I'm missing!! 3y
Texreader @TheAromaofBooks It has a low approval rating on Litsy but it sounds very interesting to me. What the heck, it‘s an X book and those are crazy hard to come by 3y
TheAromaofBooks I read what was possibly one of the worst mysteries of all time because it was only 200 pages long and I was already 75 pages in and I REALLY wanted to check Kansas off my ReadtheUSA map sooo 😂 3y
