Collector's Daughter: A Novel of the Discovery of Tutankhamun's Tomb
Collector's Daughter: A Novel of the Discovery of Tutankhamun's Tomb | Gill Paul

A Paperback Original Bestselling author Gill Paul returns with a brilliant novel about Lady Evelyn Herbert, the woman who took the very first step into the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, and who lived in the real Downton Abbey, Highclere Castle, and the long after-effects of the Curse of Pharaohs. Lady Evelyn Herbert was the daughter of the Earl of Carnarvon, brought up in stunning Highclere Castle. Popular and pretty, she seemed destined for a prestigious marriage, but she had other ideas. Instead, she left behind the world of society balls and chaperones to travel to the Egyptian desert, where she hoped to become a lady archaeologist, working alongside her father and Howard Carter in the hunt for an undisturbed tomb. In November 1922, their dreams came true when they discovered the burial place of Tutankhamun, packed full of gold and unimaginable riches, and she was the first person to crawl inside for three thousand years. She called it the "greatest moment" of her life--but soon afterwards everything changed, with a string of tragedies that left her world a darker, sadder place. Newspapers claimed it was "the curse of Tutankhamun," but Howard Carter said no rational person would entertain such nonsense. Yet fifty years later, when an Egyptian academic came asking questions about what really happened in the tomb, it unleashed a new chain of events that seemed to threaten the happiness Eve had finally found.

Just found this author and now I have all of her other books to read. Historical fiction based on the lives of the 3 people who first entered King Tuts tomb. That curse is for real. 😳. Good historical background at the end. Stroke recovery with Eve, one of the three that took antiquities from the tomb.

Very good. Full of historical details and facts. Even though the time jumps were a bit disjointed at first I soon got used to it. Another great book by Gill Paul.

My first Gill Paul! The story of Lady Evelyn Herbert, the daughter of the Earl of Canarvon who was involved in the discovery of King Tut‘s tomb. It goes back and forth between the 1920s and 1970s, with a bit of a mystery thrown in. Very well done historical fiction. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a new author to me. An interesting story about Lady Evelyn Herbert, the woman who was first to step into Tutankhamun's tomb. Her father was the major investor in Howard Carter's quest to find the tomb, and she was invited by Carter to enter first, even before the discovery was announced. The story starts when she was in her 70s and ⬇️

Crazeedi The memory loss after visiting the tomb. Was her illness because of the Curse of Tutankhamun's tomb? The story of her life unfolds in flashbacks. Recommend 14mo

Stopped at a favourite café to study - I‘m sneaking in a chapter or two of my current read. A soon to be published historical fiction novel, which follows the story of Lady Evelyn Herbert (daughter of the Earl of Carnarvon), the woman who took the very first step into the tomb of Tutankhamen, who lived in the real Downton Abbey, Highclere Castle & supposedly experienced long after effects of the curse of the pharaohs. It‘s a thrilling read so far!
