In this latest installment of the #1 NYT bestselling series, FBI Agent Pendergast faces the strangest, most challenging puzzle of his career, when bodies--drained to the last drop of blood--begin appearing in Savannah, GA. A fabulous heist: On the evening of November 24, 1971, D. B. Cooper hijacked Flight 305--Portland to Seattle--with a fake bomb, collected a ransom of $200,000, and then parachuted from the rear of the plane, disappearing into the night...and into history. A brutal crime steeped in legend and malevolence: Fifty years later, Agent Pendergast takes on a bizarre and gruesome case: in the ghost-haunted city of Savannah, Georgia, bodies are found with no blood left in their veins--sowing panic and reviving whispered tales of the infamous Savannah Vampire. A case like no other: As the mystery rises along with the body count, Pendergast and his partner, Agent Coldmoon, race to understand how--or if--these murders are connected to the only unsolved skyjacking in American history. Together, they uncover not just the answer...but an unearthly evil beyond all imagining.

A good story about mysterious deaths in New Orleans. Pendergast and Coldmoon are brought in to solve it. There is an unexpected sci-fi element at play which surprised me. But then I remembered Relic so I guess there is a precedent.

I enjoyed reading this. I loved the setting in New Orleans. Constance is here too and contributes to solving the case.

The word of the day is “desuetude”. Although I can gather the meaning from context, I have not seen this word before. It means a state of disuse.

IuliaC Very interesting! I had no idea it existed as such in English; could it be of Latin origin? In Romanian we have the word "desuetudine" which means the exact same thing as desuetude 2y
emz711 I definitely would have thought that was a typo! 🤣 2y

I present to you my B&N 50% off haul. They were out of bags, so I had to buy a tote bag, they didn‘t have the book I went in for (supposedly in stock but nowhere to be found), and if I had to run away from one more 🤬 who wasn‘t wearing a mask I was going to scream, but I found a couple of books that were on my radar and the top two for Mom, so it wasn‘t a total bust.

vivastory I was unfamiliar with Bloodless Boy but it sounds really intriguing. Adding to my TBR. I am planning on checking out Fry's books. I was unaware he published one about Troy. I hear ya about inconsiderate shoppers. So many people yesterday without masks 🙄🙄 2y
DGRachel I saw Bloodless Boy in a post by Mitch, and she has impeccable taste, so I figured I was safe giving it a chance. I own Mythos and Heroes by Fry and listened to Mythos on audio. I thought it was fun. 2y
LeslieO I wanted Cloud Cuckoo Land but they only had the special $55 version. Even half price that was too much. But I managed to find other things I wanted 😉 2y

CoverToCoverGirl Lovely! 🤩 2y
Megabooks There were a lot of people without masks at mine too! 👎🏻👎🏻 2y
Megabooks Great stack though! 👍🏻👍🏻 2y
Mitch I hope your stack makes up for the stress. My little local bookshop is back to only having 2 customers in at a time and I have to say - it‘s a COVID bonus ( and there are to many of those 😢) 2y
DGRachel @Mitch I‘m glad to have books for Mom, as she so rarely has anything on her wishlist anymore, and I‘m glad to have picked up the next Preston & Child, but I think I am done with going out in public places for awhile. That was too stressful. 2y

DB Cooper, Agent Pendergast, a possible vampire and the great city of Savannah. This book literally has everything and then some, quick read and great read.

I know, I know! This series has loads of fans. This was my first (and last) Pendergast. Completely bananas. Definitely a thing. Just not MY thing. I listened on audiobook and the narrative weirdly went abruptly in and out of War of the Worlds like sound effects?! (around the time I thought it completely jumped the shark)

🎧 The narrator was a bad choice for this book. It didn‘t stop me from listening but it took a star off of my review.

I‘m smiling as I read the last comment I made about my hopes for the next Pendergast book and this book scratched every itch. I LOVED IT! Return to the days of Relic!

In 1971 we have a DB Cooper mystery. 50 years later we have a gruesome mystery in Savannah Georgia where dead bodies are showing up drained of blood

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👇🏻

Twainy Is there a Savannah vampire? How is DB Cooper involved?

Read & find out.

Whenever there‘s a story about D.B. Cooper, I think of this Far Side cartoon.

Whoa! What a change of pace of Preston and Child‘s Pendergast Series! Book 20 has really changed course with the way they tell stories. Mostly good, solid, Sherlockian type scenarios for which that last couple were only just becoming tiresome. This one, however turns more into a sci fi thriller and I loved it!

Looking forward to part 2 of this trilogy.

FBI superstar Pendergast and team are called in to look into the horrendous occurrence of bloodless bodies turning up with regularity in Savannah, Georgia. Is it the work of the Savannah Vampire as the media is calling it? Or there is something even more sinister going on? Please read my review from here https://rb.gy/81vbdm

Book #20 in the Agent Pendergast series. Somehow these authors managed to merge the stories of D.B. Cooper and the Savannah Vampire in true Pendergast style. This series is like a modern-day Sherlock Holmes with a side of sci-fi. This one stretched the boundaries in my opinion, but was still quite entertaining.

PoisonedPen has first editions signed by both authors with trading cards that depict 3 of the main characters for $29US on pre-order, 8/17/21. I wonder who they will get to narrate 😢 fingers crossed that Pendergast goes more into the supernatural mystery/thriller ... I loved Relic.
