Katharyn Blair crafts a fiercely feminist fantasy with a horrifying curse, swoon-worthy sea captains, and the power of one girl to choose her own fate in this contemporary standalone adventure that's perfect for fans of The Fifth Wave and Seafire, and for anyone who has ever felt unchosen. For Charlotte Holloway, the world ended twice. The first was when her childhood crush, Dean, fell in love--with her older sister. The second was when the Crimson, a curse spread through eye contact, turned the majority of humanity into flesh-eating monsters.Neither end of the world changed Charlotte. She's still in the shadows of her siblings. Her popular older sister, Harlow, now commands forces of survivors. And her talented younger sister, Vanessa, is the Chosen One--who, legend has it, can end the curse. When their settlement is raided by those seeking the Chosen One, Charlotte makes a reckless decision to save Vanessa: she takes her place as prisoner. The word spreads across the seven seas--the Chosen One has been found. But when Dean's life is threatened and a resistance looms on the horizon, the lie keeping Charlotte alive begins to unravel. She'll have to break free, forge new bonds, and choose her own destiny if she has any hope of saving her sisters, her love, and maybe even the world.Because sometimes the end is just a new beginning.

3✨ I like that this is a zombie book with a different twist. The characters are interesting and likable, and the plot is intriguing too. What I didn‘t like so much was the constant repeating of being the “chosen one”. It caused me to lose interest in the middle. #Scarathlon #BatBrigade @Catsandbooks

It‘s actually my husbands cup I realized because the back has his schools mascot. 😅 Oh well, it‘s a hot chocolate type of day today. Still battling this cold. 😞

Roary47 @5feet.of.fury it‘s the only way to hot chocolate. I normally add sprinkles too, but I am trying to lose the baby weight. 🤣 6mo

Okay, the writing was solid & this YA story was entertaining. The book is really readable & I had fun doing so. That being said, the underlying cause of the flesh-eating plague that sweeps the world, & the mechanism for stopping it, is a little underwhelming. Like, I couldn‘t helping thinking “That‘s what you‘re going with?” The author makes it mostly work but still…suspending all disbelief & just going along for the ride was key.

Overall a great apocalyptic sort of pirate adventure type YA book. It had a unique take on The Chosen One trope which was refreshing and I really liked the MC Charlotte. There was constant action and mystery which kept me on the edge, though I did predict the main plot twists. The romance was done very well and the ending had such a good HEA which once again was unique.

Overall, this book was definitely fantastic! There are so many YA novels about plagues, dystopian societies, The Chosen One, etc., but Blair crafted Unchosen in an especially unique way by focusing, not on The Chosen One, but on her sister and putting an emphasis on feminism. Honestly more YA books need themes of feminism in my opinion. This book has everything you could want: a mystical legend, dangerous adventure, and a bad@ss protagonist!

Overall Rating 3¾⭐ | Narration😀=Good
The idea behind this is fantastic. Unfortunately, the execution was lacking at times. You are dropped right into the action right from the start, and it barely lets up. So if you prefer something with more action and somewhat fewer explanations/lack of world-building, this may be perfect for you. ⬇ ⬇

AudiobookingWithLeah It has some pirate-esque adventures, a little romance, and a girl who isn‘t the chosen one...but who just might surprise everyone and herself with her tenacity to find another new beginning. 3y

Look at this gorgeous cover! 😍 This was a Bookish Box book from a few months ago that got damaged, so it took a while for them to send out new copies to everyone-and it finally arrived! I'm considering painting the page edges purple. 🤔 It also came with this lovely Twilight art print! 📚💕 #bookmail #bookishbox

The heroine is a young woman like in all of my favorite post-apocalyptic novels. The curse and flesh eating humans was an interesting addition. I loved the characters in the novel. Charlotte is determined and strong. She doesn‘t give up and will do anything to protect her family. There is an unexpected love interest.

Thank you Megan Beatie Communications.

I‘m not usually into zombie apocalypse dystopia but someone gave this to me so I gave it a try, and I‘m glad I did. This was a lot of fun- very cinematic in a way. I like the world Blair has created, and action pretty much doesn‘t stop. I pretty quick read- like watching a romantic, action-packed zombie movie, complete with sisterly love, forbidden love, and pirates!
