Virginia is for loversand Storyton Hall is its best vacation spot for lovers of books. The big event this summer at Jane Stewards resort is A Bookish Cook-Off. Its a blend of the literary and the culinarybut someones headed for the mortuary . . . Six chefs are preparing to compete in an outdoor tent at Storyton Hall for prizes that will boost their careersbut is there someone who cant stand the heat? It looks that way when one of the contestants is found dead in a pantry packed with two centuries worth of cookbooks, among other treasures and rarities. Could there be a connection to other recent events in town, like tampering with the costume of a local mascot? Jane isnt sure, but after someone serves a second course of murder, the kitchen must be closed and the killer must be found . . . Readers will find themselves wanting to live in Storyton, no matter how many people end up dead there. Suspense Magazine on Murder in the Locked Library

My reading nook in the family room. There‘s a little table there for warm drinks and the chair looks out the patio doors, with the fireplace to my left.

Murder in the Cookbook Nook is the latest addition (#7) in the book retreat mystery series. I'm always up for a cozy mystery and a visit to Storyton Hall is always welcome! Catching up with Jane and her sons, Fitz and Hem as well as all of the other characters is always a welcome retreat from my own crazy life. And seriously, who wouldn't want to visit a place called Storyton Hall (virtually or otherwise); A Hotel retreat (cont in comments)

TheHeartlandBookFairy centered around all things books and housing a secret library?! And this latest edition, a cooking competition is held on the grounds of Storyton Hall and naturally, mayhem is brewing, A mystery is stewing, and a murder unfolds. As a lifelong reader and lover of all things literary as well as a bit of a foodie and a cookbook collector, this book spoke to me and needed to be read. The fact that I've enjoyed the rest of this series as well (cont) 3y
TheHeartlandBookFairy as several other series by Ellery Adams, is just a bonus! I really love that my favorite series by Ellery Adams, the book retreat mysteries (which I miss terribly and wish were continued!), brings back an old favorite character, Olivia Limoges and Captain Haviland! How fun to be reunited with them and to have Olivia and Jane striking up a friendship 😁 A fun cozy mystery with a pinch of this and a dash of that, this one dished up just (cont) 3y
TheHeartlandBookFairy dished up just what I needed for a mini escape from my daily routine 😊 3y

Loved, loved, loved this! It felt like a long, solid, well fleshed out novel. While it didn‘t further the narrative of Storyton Hall it did further a lot of story lines. So good!

This is the seventh book in the book retreat mystery series. I love all the characters especially Jane and her sons, Fitzgerald and Hemingway. The characters feel like old friends while the story is well written and flows easily. I feel like I am transported into the story and at home in Storyton. The cooking show filming was a fun bonus into the story.

I thoroughly enjoy reading this series and can‘t wait for more books! Book 49/150.

Yaaasssssss! Great intersection bc I‘m SUPER into baking shows right now!

KathyWheeler I‘ve been binging the Great British Baking Show. This book should be fun. 3y
BethM @KathyWheeler I can‘t get that one but I‘ve been watching cake wars and cupcake wars :) 3y
Magpiegem I find it so interesting that they changed the name of the great British bake off to the great British baking show in the US. I assume adding “off” to the end of any verb doesn‘t make it a battle (I.e dance off) in America? xx (edited) 3y

KathyWheeler @Magpiegem you know, I was always calling it the Great British Bake Off in my head and then I‘d see “Baking Show” and assumed I had it wrong. I didn‘t know it was the name of show in the UK. I‘ve seen things called “dance offs” before, but it‘s possible that I read it in a book or saw it in show set in Britain. 3y
BethM @Magpiegem @KathyWheeler I‘ve always heard it called Bake Off- weird. And adding “off” to a verb totally makes it a battle in American English 🤷‍♀️ 3y
Magpiegem @KathyWheeler @BethM oh that‘s even more interesting! I‘ve heard American Poscasts talk about it as “Great British Baking Show” but now it‘s just weird that they changed it if it would of been fine with the original title! This is the sort of thing I‘m fascinated by after a year of lockdown... 😬😂 Anyway regardless of its name I love the show! Xx 3y

This series gives me all the feels abs this newest book is no exception! Ellery Adams‘s cozy mysteries are hands down my favourite books; they‘re just the right length to engross you in the mystery, while updating you on the lives of all the characters. This mystery was so soft and cozy, I felt like I was wrapped up in a soft throw with a cuppa.
