8 posts | 12 read | 3 to read
This carefully crafted ebook: The Provincial Lady Goes Further (Illustrated) is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Excerpt: June 9th.--Life takes on entirely new aspect, owing to astonishing and unprecedented success of minute and unpretentious literary effort, published last December, and--incredibly--written by myself. Reactions of family and friends to this unforeseen state of affairs most interesting and varied. (The Provincial Lady Goes Further) In continuation with the The Diary of a Provincial Lady this autographical work traces the further humorous account of the protagonist after receiving a large royalty check from her former book. E. M. Delafield (1890-1943) was a prolific English author who is best known for her largely autobiographical works like Zella Sees Herself, Provincial Lady Series etc. which look at the lives of upper-middle class Englishwomen.

The #weeklyforecast shows the Windowsill of Optimism looking even more optimistic than last week 😂 I will definitely be finishing the tagged book, & I actually finished Shelter in Place yesterday. Tomorrow starts the #BacklistReadathon so I am hoping to check off some of Sherryl Woods's Chesapeake Shores series, as well as my other #LMPBC book for this month, Girls Made of Snow & Glass. As always...we will see how far we get!!

Second in a series. I enjoy Delafield‘s writing and dry sense of humor. And her books give a fascinating picture of the life of an upper middle class English family between the wars. But I didn‘t connect with this book as much as I did the first one. I‘m not sure why… perhaps because her writing style was already familiar to me so I didn‘t find it as novel and refreshing. But still a fun read!

Still enjoyed the wit, but I didn‘t find it quite as sparkling as the first. The financial indiscretions continue 😆😆

It should almost be to you @Chrissyreadit , it went out a few days ago. 😄

Photo of my shelf copy because I forgot to take a photo before I sent it 🤦‍♀️

Chrissyreadit The book pouch was for you 😆 I will send it back…. 1y
mabell @Chrissyreadit How sweet, thank you! I thought it was a traveling book pouch 😆😄 1y

TheAromaofBooks Looking forward to this one, although the financial indiscretions sometimes stress me out 😂 1y
Chrissyreadit @mabell @julieclair @TheAromaofBooks I‘m struggling to engage and find myself skimming- so it‘s still not done. I‘m not sure why but it doesn‘t feel as “charming” and full disclosure- I‘ve been not feeling well since Friday so could be related to that. I can try one mor time or just mail tomorrow. I‘m so sorry! Thoughts? 1y
mabell @Chrissyreadit No problem at all! These are supposed to be happy, and if this one isn‘t making you happy, no need to keep reading! 1y
mabell @Chrissyreadit I do agree with your assessment that it doesn‘t feel as charming. Not quite as fun as the first. 1y
julieclair @Chrissyreadit I'm next in line, & I'm out of town until Sunday, so there's no pressure to mail it right away. So if you want to try again, that's totally fine. On the other hand, if you want to just DNF it & be done, I totally get that too. Whatever feels right to you. As @mabell says, these are meant to be happy reads! 😉 Sorry you are feeling poorly. Hope you get over it quickly. So many germs floating around these days. 🤢😝 @TheAromaofBooks 1y
TheAromaofBooks Thanks for keeping me in the loop!! While I try to read the books in a timely manner, I'm not super stressed about this group because I know you are all reliable enough to pass them on as soon as you can!!! @julieclair didn't get to finish Frederica and I feel bad, because Julie you could have kept it longer if you needed to!!!! @Chrissyreadit 1y
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks No worries! I knew we were heading out of town (we're on a cruise) and there was no way I'd get it finished. It's back on my TBR, and I'll catch up with it at some point. I just love reading with you all... our little group is thoughtful and kind. 💙@chrissyreadit @mabell 1y

I love The Diary of a Provincial Lady and I‘m a bit surprised that it‘s taken me this long to pick up the next volume in the series.

This is the American title for The Provincial Lady Goes Further but I HAD to have this 1933 edition when I saw the fantastic deco-ish cover art. Right??

I created this #TBRBingo in August 2017, and this morning, I finally finished the last book! I'm greatly enjoying this sense of accomplishment, while simultaneously planning my next bingo card. 😃

LibLib How do you reward yourself when you complete the bingo squares? I hope it's more books 😋 5y
smilingshelves @LibLib I honestly haven't given a reward any thought, but I like the way you think! 😄 5y
BucklingBookshelves 🎉🎉🎉 I‘ve toyed with the idea of something like this — even maybe just a “high priority TBR” list but I‘m sooooo terrible at sticking to anything like that — regardless of how fun making the list is! 🤷🏼‍♀️ 5y
smilingshelves @BucklingBookshelves Let's all take note that it took me almost two years to finish mine. 😆 For my next round, I'm thinking of doing categories, like the color of the book cover, or genre, or the year it was added to my Goodreads TBR. That way it can be based on mood reading, too. 5y

A hoot. In this installment our provincial lady find that being a published writer isn't all it's cracked up to be, send her daughter to school to the horror of the neighbors, holidays abroad with limited success and dodges the bank with her usual humour and aplomb. Fun and funny
