The Princess of Cleves
The Princess of Cleves: Easyread Comfort Edition | Madame De Lafayette
5 posts | 18 read | 7 to read
Regarded as the first modern French romantic novel, it was written during the reign of Henry II of France. It is a love story of young beautiful women, Madame de Cleves who is married to the Prince de Cleves. Her marriage lacks passion and she falls in love with another man. The author has described her true emotions as she tries to overcome her feelings and remains a truthful woman. Superb!

#BookReport week 44/19

The Man who Saw Everything was a quick read and everything I hoped for.
The Princess of Cleves, a kind of 18th century soap, I had to bail on. I used it for the public domain prompt for #Booked2019 though.
The Lowland had been on my shelves since 2014. I finally read it because it is set in Rhode Island, a state I still needed for #ReadingUSA2019. I enjoyed it much more than I anticipated.

So I had a good reading week!

Bailedbailed

A classic from the #1001books list. Really short but I didn't manage to finish it. I think it is supposed to be a kind of classic soap novel but I really couldn't keep track of all the character. Sometimes it seemed as if in every other sentence a new character was introduced or mentioned. Not for me!

#Booked2019 #PublicDomain

Cathythoughts I‘m useless with loads of characters ... can‘t keep track at all 🤷🏼‍♀️ 4y
BarbaraBB @Cathythoughts Neither do I 🙈 4y
Reviewsbylola That‘s a bummer. 4y

Bailedbailed

For such a short book, this felt like it was never going to end. I enjoy classics, but the prose was a little too thick for me in this one.

Wonderfully frothy soap opera full of historical inaccuracies.

It's clearly Mary Queen of Scots season in my house: I have finally started this from my TBR shelf, as she is one of the characters in this very early novel. (I am interested in the history of the novel.)

annahenke Are you a purist or have you watched the delightful historical blasphemy that is the TV show Reign?? 😊 7y
zsuzsanna_reads I'm just a purist :-) I just couldn't watch the Tudors, so haven't even tried Reign yet. Is it worth trying? 7y
LeahBergen @zsuzsanna_reads I couldn't watch The Tudors. I tried the first episode and it drove me crazy. I only made it about 2 minutes into Reign. 😂 7y
