17 posts | 44 read | 11 to read
New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins is sassier than ever in this page-turning follow up to Rebel Belle, perfect for fans of Buffy and Veronica Mars.Life is almost back to normal for Harper Price. The Ephors have been silent after their deadly attack at Cotillion months ago, and best friend Bee has returned after a mysterious disappearance. Now Harper can return her focus to the important things in life: school, canoodling with David, her nemesis-turned-ward-slash-boyfie, and even competing in the Miss Pine Grove pageant.Unfortunately, supernatural chores are never done. The Ephors have decided theyd rather train David than kill him. The catch: Harper has to come along for the ride, but she cant stay Davids Paladin unless she undergoes an an ancient trial that will either kill her . . . or make her more powerful than ever.

It was a quick easy read but I did feel that book 2 drag with a trilogy. I don‘t feel as much of that need to read book 3 but maybe one day. #bookspinbingo

2.5 I liked the first one WAY more. I just found most of the characters kind of irritating sometimes. Still love the Aunts and Harper when she is not stressing me out 😂. I did fly through it and was a quick read which was great since I was quite busy with school projects. Above all, I just enjoyed it. It was a funny light read, but doesn‘t have the same thing or vibe of the first book.🤔

What was that even? Definitely not as enjoyable as the first book. It took me two months and a trip with nothing really to do but read to finally make me finish. The only way I can describe this book is that it put me on an interstate from the beginning to the end of the book but instead of taking a straight trip, we had to pull off at every exit, only to get back on again. The story picked up at the end, but then, you got it, went askew.

This book had its moments, don‘t get me wrong, but it just wasn‘t the same as Rebel Belle. I once read an author who said the middle book was her favorite in any series, so I was looking forward to this one a lot and was kind of let down.

Can I just say WHAT THE LITERAL HECK? It wasn't as good as the first but ended on a cliff hanger and now I *need* to read the next one or else. Full review will be up on the blog soon (adaster.com/blog).

Not as good as book one, but this was still a fun read. And I'm super excited to read book three!

I really liked Rebel Belle, but this sequel lost a lot of what made the first book so enjoyable. It oftentimes felt more like a high school dramedy than a light fantasy with a snarky MC. ⭐️⭐️

BekahB I agree. I really liked the first book too, but the drama with her best friend took me out of the main storyline a bit. I plan to read the third one, but I haven't been too tempted to get to it yet. 7y
Kristy_K @BekahB I think a lot of people felt this way. Fingers crossed the third book is better! 7y

This wasn't as good as the first in the series. Not that much happened, it wasn't as funny and it just lacked some of the spirit of the first one. I need more of the aunts!

Rented some lenses for my wedding this weekend so stuck at home until they arrive. Editing theatre headshots, packing and of course reading. The first book in this series was hilarious but this book is turning out to be a little more serious.

Jenshootsweddings Oooooooh what'd you rent ? 7y
ReadingSusan @Jenshootsweddings 100 macro for ring shots! Also just a 50 1.2 as backup because I am afraid my 50 is reaching its last leg. 7y

Sophomore slump. Not as good as the first, but still interesting and funny. The dynamic between the characters gets more interesting as the paladin plot becomes less so. Still set in southern belle pageant society, which is amusing if bizarre.

Didn't like it quite as much as Rebel Belle but this series is super charming and a heck of a lot of fun.

Not going to lie I'm not loving this one. Which is disappointing cause I did like the first one. But after taking a break I'm determined to power through and finish.

missarixreads Did you end up finishing? I put it down today and don't think I'm picking it back up... 8y
ContraryMary @missarix no I never did finish *sigh* and I'm not confident I will. 8y
