this is the second YA Thelma and Louise retelling I‘ve read this year and again, it‘s fine. Winona and Lucille both have awful home lives so they run away and go on a mini crime spree to leave the Midwest and find one of their mom‘s who abandoned them years ago. Winona is annoying. implied one has a crush on the other and then dropped it for the rest of the book is kinda queer-baiting and annoying. anticlimactic at best. super rushed ending.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Two teens bond over their miserable lives and take off an unlikely, and mostly unrealistic adventure. A sort of modern YA take on Thelma and Louise, at least I think. Admittedly I‘ve never actually watched that movie - should I? 🤔 I liked these friends, though they don‘t always make the best decisions. They‘re very tough, but perhaps a bit misguided. #coverlove

Cinfhen Yes! Watch Thelma & Louise!! Check out a VERY YOUNG Brad Pitt!!!!! 3y
Cinfhen Agree, great cover but I think that‘s where my interest ends 😉 3y

I had read that this book was like a teen Thelma and Louise. I thought that could be fun, and it turns out the comp is fitting, as it‘s completely derivative of that movie. It‘s wildly improbable (which can be fun when done well, which this is not), full of plot holes, SO melodramatic, and has a poorly fleshed out ending. It‘s just bad. #botmbacklist

This is my 3rd time trying to read this and my 3rd time giving up. Unfortunately I think I‘m just going to consider this a DNF and move on. Something about the writing style of this book gets to me and a lot of the dialogue doesn‘t make any sense either. Interesting idea for a story, but just wasn‘t executed well in my opinion.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 this one started off okay, but it became clear the main characters were all jerks. I just didn‘t care for it.

Think teenaged Thelma and Louise in this action packed book. Winona and Lucille each have less than perfect lives. They hide violence and destruction from the outside world, so it seems fitting that they become friends. When an event sparks a drastic decision, the two set out to find their own paths. I really liked listening to this. At times light, it also has some pretty heavy issues. My #ReadersChoice for #BBRC #TeenAngst .

I was two chapters into The Family Upstairs, when I followed my gut and closed the book. It‘s not it‘s time yet, I‘m not in the mood, and that‘s unfair to the author and the story. I tried to be pumped, but I‘m not. But Hello Girls seems interesting??? Feeling indecisive! 🤷🏻‍♀️#hellogirls

The writing is not top notch and the plot is full of holes and implausibilities, but it's a book that you read for the fun ride, not literary merit, so it delivers in that sense.

For a ya, this one ended up being much darker then I would have guessed. Two friends are both having a tough time in their family lives, and it all comes to a head at once.
