This is really an incredible book. Tara Brach is a great teacher, and I‘ve been listening to her guided meditations for a while. It was so nice to read more of her teaching, stories, and insights in this book. She has such a great way of teaching self compassion and acceptance! I would definitely recommend.
In psychotherapy, radical acceptance is the skill of accepting the things you can‘t change. It sounds simple enough, but there are people whose brains can‘t quite get the signal that something is uncontrollable. Tara Brach takes this concept and expands on it through the use of Buddhist practices.
The book itself is nothing spectacular but there are a lot of nuggets of wisdom, and I feel better prepared for the task at hand.
Brach encourages us to be accepting of ourselves with guided meditations drawing from psychology and Buddhism. I would recommend it to anyone dealing with psychological or physical pain that is open to advice like this, “…take a few moments, whenever you remember, to look into awareness, see what is true, then let go and let be.”🧘🏻♀️
Read this and had the audiobook as a companion for the guided meditations. A helpful work if you take the pieces that serve you, like all self-help/personal development it will not all be useful to every reader. I struggle with just letting things be so the tenets of radical acceptance greatly appeal to me. Recommended by my therapist and I'm definitely glad I took time and really worked through it.
Tara Brach offers such comfort with this book. She thoroughly explains the concept of radical acceptance through personal and patient examples. Her Buddhism studies and career as a clinical psychologist is really interesting. She offers many guided meditations to work through the process of radical acceptance. I loved listening to this audiobook. #MountTBR 🧘🏻♀️🕉
As a Westerner who spent over a decade studying & living in a majority Buddhist country, I have an ambivalent relationship towards American Buddhism. Brach - who is a gifted meditation teacher & (clearly) an excellent therapist - sets off some of that discomfort in me with the somewhat 'oh-so-wise' tone of her writing. However, RA is full of great insight & the meditations are very helpful. I suggest read a bit, set aside, then read a little more!
This is one of those books I‘m going to order a physical copy of, and reread from time to time. It‘s deeply inspirational. (Also, it‘s made me think about finding an online meditation class or group...HMMMM.)
A run of frustrating days, bad communication with family, & the current political climate makes me run to the yoga mat & soak up some Green Tara energy.🧘♀️Thanks Littens ! Your posts make me feel better too.
This was a wonderful refresher in personal strategies to help you become emotionally strong and fulfilled through meditation, breathing and Buddhist strategies.

A book on self and inter-personal acceptance and a deck of compassion cards from the Buddhist centre on Holy Isle, Firth of Clyde. We had a wonderful, peaceful day here, walking around the Island. I trekked to the top of the 1030ft high peak of Mullach Mòr and enjoyed magnificent views of Lamlash Bay and the surrounding area of Arran. It's a visit I'll always remember. 💖
The premise of accepting and showing compassion for yourself is valid, but I‘ve read far better books by Brene Brown and others on similar topics. I bailed in chapter two.
I accept that I am not a Buddhist. I accept I don‘t practice. I also accept I am an incurable skeptic. So I continually attempt to test whether or not I know myself. I bet this is a super helpful book for some folks. It gave me a few things to think about, which I am always grateful for.

Clearly recognizing what is happening inside us, and regarding what we see with an open, kind and loving heart, is what I call Radical Acceptance. If we are holding back from any part of our experience, if our heart shuts out any part of who we are and what we feel, we are fueling the fears and feelings of separation that sustain the trance of unworthiness. Radical Acceptance directly dismantles the very foundations of this trance.
Scorched remnants of this book were scattered across the crash site where my brother was killed. I took it as a sign and ordered the book. So far, it‘s challenging, but I am enjoying it... small bites at a time.

A book on Buddhist tenets without a lot of Buddhist mumbo jumbo. I go back and reread passages all the time.
