Louise What a beautiful poem! As a lyrist, I‘m always especially happy to find another poem that mentions the lyre, too! Thanks for sharing! 4y

{2of2} I am sorry if this is overkill. But I've had, and loved this book for over twenty years. I've read, and re-read so many of the poems. And left special bookmarks in my favorite pages. Many of the bookmarks are pressed roses from my grandmother's garden, with whom I was very close. The book is very old, and worn, and well loved. Just wanted to share it with my Litsy friends. Thanks for indulging me. 💗 #bookmarks #riotgrams #oldbooklove

Dragon I really like the idea of pressed flowers as book marks. I'm going to try it 👍 7y

GypsyKat @Dragon The retained their scent for several years, but it's gone now. They do become very fragile, so if I were to do it again, I think I would press them between sheets of wax paper or something, to preserve them a little better. (edited) 7y
KirstieE These are adorable ! Especially you're grandmother's flowers 💖 7y
GypsyKat @KirstieE Thank you! She loved her rose bushes, and would always pick the prettiest blooms off of them for me. 💗 7y
Lmstraubie It's truly beautiful 💗💗💗 7y
Oryx That is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing 7y
GypsyKat @Lmstraubie @Oryx Thank you, both! 💗 7y

After my shelfie post earlier, I was thinking about my antique Tennyson book. I rescued it from (believe it or not) a book burning when I was 14. (Don't worry, it's not as dramatic as it sounds) The thing is, right away I had this sense that it wouldn't still be on this Earth if I hadn't taken it from the pile that day, and I have loved it ever since. Also I know it's odd but this is going to be a two part post.{1of2} #bookmarks #riotgram #antique

I'm teaching Lord Tennyson's "Ulysses" in #BritLit and it is especially resonant. Poetry is a balm for the aching soul. #WeHoldTheLine #TeachersofLitsy #MidtermElections2018

TirzahPrice I love that poem and that final line. ❤️ 7y
Tndimatteo I love MOST of the poem. But the way he talks about his wife and son, though. 😳 7y
BookishFeminist So with you on the #MidtermElections2018. I will be volunteering the heck out of my time with Emily's List. 7y

Found an old textbook my mom used in college 50 years ago. I love her notes and feelings in the margins. She loved Tennyson. She had good taste.

Laura317 I love reading other's notes in the margins. Makes me feel connected to them somehow. 8y
Jono @Laura317 I love buying used books for that exact reason. When I loan books out it is required that people underline passages that spoke to them and to write those feelings in the margins. 8y
Laura317 Exactly! @Jono 8y
