Wallace's novel is a slow burn when revealing how these individual stories are related to one another. Each character is drawn out over the course of the narrative through June and Luke, who is an extension of June. They help not only bring Iris out of her shell, but are a link to what is good in the world. Told from multiple points of view, this beautiful novel would be an excellent choice for a book club.

June, pregnant at sixteen, is abandoned in a New England town. As the local residents rally to look after her and the child, Wallace describes this strange cast of characters, including their relationships, quirks, frailties and strengths. While we are on one hand reminded that humans are capable of inflicting pain, we are also reminded that through struggle, strangers can become trusted friends. 4/5 ⭐️

Listening to this one and really enjoying it! A young mother, June, is abandoned in a small New England town and the residents rally to assist; what follows are character studies of those that become involved in her life. So far, they are quirky and charming. I initially avoided this one on Hoopla because it sounded too saccharine for my tastes, but it is proving to be engaging and not overly sweet. #currentlyreading

This is 7 hours and 46 minutes of my life I will never get back. I should have bailed, but I always have hope that it's going to get better. It just felt like too much back story and not enough connection between the characters.

I always wonder when I'm listening to a book and not really liking it if it's the book or the narrator. #audiobooks

I'm not quite sure how to rate this one. I started it as an audio book on hoopla but it returned before I had a chance to finish so I bought the ebook and that was a mistake. I was really enjoying it up until the physical copy. Why would an author not use quotation marks for dialogue? It made me so mad. 3 ⭐️ overall since I enjoyed the story but why? Why ruin a good thing?

What a breathtaking book. The author writes beautifully. I loved the characters, most of them generous and loving. The way they cared for each other and gave of themselves to help heal past wounds was wonderful, kind of revives your hope in humanity.

My Friday night consists of waiting out this cold and this beautiful book. (The whiskey is purely for the cough I assure you) 😎

177 pages mostly this dense. Thank god it's not 800 pages! But I am really enjoying it!
