The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party
The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party: More from the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency | Alexander McCall Smith
14 posts | 16 read | 5 to read
The twelfth installment in the beloved, bestselling series is once again a beautiful blend of wit and wisdom, and a profoundly touching tale of the human heart. Precious Ramotswe is haunted by a dream in which she is driving her dear old white van. Grace Makutsi dreams that her 97 percent on the Botswana Secretarial College exam was a mistake. When Mma Ramotswe discovers that her van is actually still in use (and, of course, sets out to retrieve it), Mma Makutsi wonders whether her dream will turn out to be prophetic as well. They can only wait and see, but, in the meantime, one of Phuti Radiphuti's apprentices has gotten a girl pregnant and, under pressure to marry her, has run away. Naturally, it is up to Precious and Grace to help the couple work things out. In other developments, Mma Ramotswe investigates a case of rural jealousy in which cattle are being poisoned. Add to the mix Violet Sephotho's newly begun, already unstoppable run for the Botswana Parliament and the possibility that wedding bells may finally ring for Phuti Radiphuti and Grace Makutsi whose love for each other is as great as their love for Botswana and we have a charming and delightful tale from the inimitable Alexander McCall Smith. From the Hardcover edition.

The great February book haul: I‘m still working on collecting this series. I was so lucky to find these this weekend!! Set in #Botswana, which will be coming up later in the year for #foodandlit @Catsandbooks

#BookReport. As much as I love Mma Ramotswe and the Botswana setting this series is becoming a bit one note for me. I enjoyed both Saint X and Year of Wonders. I have had trouble landing on my current reads and am hoping these stick while also keeping up with buddy reads. Liking Yellowface the most out of the 4.

CSeydel I love the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series but I agree - they start to lose their verve. I got behind on them, and then, trying to catch up, I read two back-to-back and it was dismaying how indistinguishable they were. 10mo

💙 I wish Mma Ramotswe was my IRL friend.

Spotting a vehicle identical to her late beloved little white van, she says “I‘m going to check. There is place where a post hit me.” 😂

These books are such comfort reads for me! This one had me with eyes almost brimming over several times, as Mma Romatswe offers kind words to someone who needs to hear them, and then reunites with an old friend.

Somehow I hadn‘t read this one before. It‘s 12th in the series and the first that isn‘t a reread for me.

I think I"ll make a gentle start to October by paying a call on Mma Ramotswe in Botswana and see what she's up to.
Always delightful to spend a few hours in her company and see what she is currently philosophising about. This one is book 12 in this delightful series. #botswana
