Different Genres and Literary Elements in Jeanette Wintersons 'The Passion'
Different Genres and Literary Elements in Jeanette Wintersons 'The Passion' | Anne-Kathrin Wilde
4 posts
Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject English - Literature, Works, grade: 1,7, University of Bayreuth, course: Female Identities in the History of British Fiction, language: English, abstract: Jeanette Winterson's novels are a combination of history, fictional stories, fairy-tales and female romance. She has an experimental style which approaches many readers in particular women. The genre could be called post-modern fiction as it shows a lot of post-modern writing techniques such as intertextuality, parody, self-reflectivity and the rewriting of history. In this paper the different literary genres which Jeanette Winterson knows to combine should be presented by the example of the novel The Passion, written in 1987. Using literary devices, generic details should be analysed which make it possible to categorize The Passion according to the different genres.

It‘s really hard to choose just 3! But if I have to, I‘ll go with fantasy, SciFi, & literary fiction.

As much as I love those genres, it would be hard to never read bios or YA or any of the other genres ever again. 😭

Wife Historical fiction, Biography (memoir), and historical nonfiction 🌹 5y
ReadingRover YA, Mystery and fantasy. But I will miss biographies. Though if I‘m clever I can just say YA, Mystery and Biographies because YA basically includes every sub genre 😉 5y
robinb Hmmm. Historical fiction, mysteries, romance books. 😊 (edited) 5y

Maggie_Reads Romance, historical fiction and historical non-fiction. I love history. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
dreadamara Romance, historical fiction, and science fiction. Can't live without romance and I love history, but prefer learning about it through fiction can be more entertaining. Science fiction is thought-provoking about the future - so I see it as learning about our future history. 5y
Bookladylinda My three would be Horror, Mystery & Historical Fiction. But I would miss several other genres that are listed. 5y

What is the genre you will NOT read? #PickyAboutBooks We all have genres we will not read, as for me, I don‘t like romance, mystery or horror. You might say WELL, what‘s left then?

CouronneDhiver I don‘t do paranormal/occult books... 5y
PrezBookster I don‘t do Romance or Historical Romance especially. 5y
AmberWB I‘m not in to Romance or SciFi 5y

Slajaunie Agree with @CouronneDhiver and also romance, and memoirs. 5y
Tamra Definitely Romance. 5y
Samplergal I won‘t do fantasy or the gaggy romance. I don‘t mind a cute love story but the “Fabio on the cover”are hideous. IMHO. I dislike religious books and most sci-fi too. 5y
Melissa_J Harlequin-type romance novels, memoirs (especially celebrity memoirs), and self-help books. 5y
LaLecture In general I‘m pretty much open to everything. I don‘t really read erotic novels though, especially these “girl next door falls in love with a billionaire” tropes. Religious or spiritual stuff is not for me either. I also rarely read SciFi, horror and biographies although I do want to read more of them to see if I could like them. (edited) 5y
Jobe I had an English literature college professor called the Fabio covers – Bodice Rippers 5y
MicrobeMom I dislike self help and religious fiction! 5y
Crazeedi I don't like romance, harlequin types, I'm not a big fan of sci fi/fantasy, though I have read a couple I've enjoyed. I'm over the self help books I thought I needed when I was young😊, no erotica for me either. Don't like horror. 5y
jessinikkip I agree with most that the plotless erotic romance books just get a pass from me. I will try anything else but if the only point of the plot is eventually these two have sex...nope 5y
bg_reads @Crazeedi you hit the nail on the head.. this is my perspective, too! I could read some self-help (very little), thinking it'll... Well.. help.. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 5y
Lreads No erotica, horror, true crime, or celebrity memoirs for me. 5y
JillR I‘m not a fan of fantasy or memoirs... 5y
GingerAntics I went through a self-help stage, but I just can‘t stand it anymore. The notion that someone that worked for the author is going to magically work for everyone. 🙄 Ugh. I don‘t do romance novels, either. I feel like it‘s all just so far from reality we might as well make romance novels an off shoot of the fantasy genre (although, well done fantasy is nice, so maybe not). Religious fiction is way to preachy. I refuse with that madness. 5y
OrangeMooseReads Harlequin romance are a no go for me and westerns. I‘m sure some of them are good, but I just can‘t. 5y
Crazeedi @cbwaug you made me laugh! Thank you! We're in total agreement . Happy new year, I hope you have a great reading year in 2019 (edited) 5y
JaclynW I'm open to anything. But. Anything too religious is a no. Anything too over the top romance is a no. I don't think I've ever read a western. Self-help, non-fiction and memoirs are usually not my thing but I've read some great ones before. I like a great story with great characters that moves along at a good pace (not too slow). I love a story with a lesson. I love a book that shows me a new perspective. I love a story that entertains. 5y
JBA Horror involving the supernatural, I'm usually okay with. Human against human, not so much. Not that keen on romance, either. 5y
RamsFan1963 Romance novel and poetry. Poetry was drummed into my head in high school, it didnt take. 5y
hollylynnbee I'm not a huge romance reader but I'm usually open to anything. I love old literature but old English is hard for me to read for some reason. I live for a book full if motivational quotes but I don't like self help books. 5y

2. Horror
3. Children/Middle Grade

#sundayfunday @sebrittain

sebrittainclark I tried reading a middle grade book last year and it was rough. I enjoy YA, but I just don't have the patience for middle grade anymore 6y
