Blood Communion
Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat | Anne Rice
21 posts | 21 read | 22 to read
The Vampire Chronicles continue with a riveting, rich saga--part adventure, part fairy-tale--of Prince Lestat and the story of the Blood Communion as he tells the tale of his coming to rule the vampire world and the eternal struggle to find belonging, a place in the universe for the undead, and how, against his will, he must battle the menacing, seemingly unstoppable force determined to thwart his vision and destroy the entire vampire netherworld. In this spellbinding novel, Lestat, rebel outlaw, addresses the tribe of vampires, directly, intimately, passionately, and tells the riveting story of the formation of the Blood Communion and how he became Prince of the vampire world, the true ruler of this vast force, and how his vision for all the Children of the Universe to thrive as one, came to be. The tale spills from Lestat's heart, as he speaks first of his new existence as reigning monarch--and then of his fierce battle of wits and words with the mysterious Rhoshamandes, proud Child of the Millennia, reviled outcast for his senseless slaughter of the legendary ancient vampire Maharet, forever wise and loving and twin to Mekare the Keeper of the Sacred Core; Rhoshamandes, a force who refuses to live in harmony at the Court of Prince Lestat and threatens all that Lestat has dreamt of. As the tale unfolds, Lestat takes us from the towers and battlements of his ancestral castle in the snow-covered mountains of France to the verdant wilds of lush Louisiana with its lingering fragrances of magnolias and night jasmine; from the far reaches of the Pacific's untouched islands to the 18th-century city of St. Petersburg and the court of the Empress Catherine . . .

I had been disappointed in the last few installments of the vampire chronicles, and I am very happy to say that Blood Communion is back to the good stuff! Lestat‘s personality is here in full force with growth and emotional maturity he‘s gained over the series. It moved at a riveting pace and really gets into the development and meaning of the Court to the vampire world.

Finally took a break from the Witcher series (totally not because I need to order the next book from Amazon) and continued to dance with Prince Lestat. Definitely got to see a different side to the Brat, but I enjoyed revisiting my old friends and bringing them all together stylishly!

I was ambitious jumping into this so far down the line in terms of books. The author tries to ‘remind‘ you who is who & what stories have gone before, if you don‘t have that depth to draw on, the characters seem very 2 dimensional & wooden. It was atmospheric, the chateau & countryside were drawn well, but I couldn‘t separate the characters or summon the emotional energy to care about them. Should perhaps go back 16 books and start with book 1!

Ruthiella I can‘t read Anne Rice any more! I used to love her books but alas we‘ve grown apart!😕 5y
manifestsanity The first four are fun trash. Couldn't get past book five. 5y
Mitch @Ruthiella @manifestsanity I think this might be my one and only....too many other great reads out there for me 5y

@BookPage magazine that I pick up from my local library is the adult equivalent of Highlights magazines for children. "I want that one, and that one, and one of those, and that one..." #GetTheSharpie #CircleAllTheThings

Kappadeemom It‘s like the Scholastic Book Fair magazine! 5y

Mr K has been taking note of Litsy book swaps and had a go himself! He did good - he choose these two for me and I love them both (he usually asks for a list but this year he went free style!). Even bagged a signed edition! Well done Mr K! #christmaslove

Really enjoyed the latest in the Vampire Lestat saga by the Queen, Anne Rice. As always I felt as if I was there amidst the drama. Anyone else love AR?

Though I read the likes of Harry Potter growing up, it was reading Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles in my teens that got me reading as a hobby. So I guess it's time to start the next story (though I'm pretty sure from the blurb that this will be retelling of bits from past books...)

So excited! I started this one last night. I‘m working a lot of overtime this week as security for the local emergency room (hit or miss whether I‘ll have down time to read, but no full moon makes it more likely). This should be a fast read for me.

I first read the Vampire Chronicles about 30 years ago. Couldn‘t let a new one pass without picking it up. I‘m pretty sure that the cheesiness here was in its glory days in the earlier books. Regardless, it‘s here wrapped in a velvet cloak!

Vampire wisdom ⚰️🧛🏻‍♀️🧛🏻‍♂️

sparrowssavvy So true 5y
Reggie This is gonna sound grim but this is why in the event of a zombie apocalypse I would just kill myself. I just don‘t want to have to kill or fight other humans for food. Where on the other hand my brother‘s motto is “if there are 4 of us being chased by a horde of zombies, and I‘m last, I‘m tripping the 3rd person.” Lol 5y

Litsy!
I have been away for much too long. My life took a very bad turn. I lost my dear husband in April from cancer and my mom was diagnosed with dementia.

I‘ve wanted to come back and thought Anne Rice would be a great book to come back to. Oh this book is wonderful!!! I feel this is the strongest since she came back to writing Lestat 🧛‍♂️ her books are so immersive and they pull you in. This book does not disappoint. 5 out of 5.

TrishB So sorry for your loss 💕 hope reading is comforting at least. 5y

andreadmw Thank you all so much. It has been a transition for sure. I still have bad days and will continue to for a long time probably. For the first few months I could only read about death. Memoirs about grief, etc. Good to be back in fiction again. 5y

Anne Rice's newest vampire chronicles book is out! I'm seriously craving a reread of this series! ❤ And Moukou obviously agrees! 😁😸

RavenLovelyReads I just picked that up today! I stopped reading the chronicles a while back...I think I‘ll re-read throughout the winter. Does this book follow Prince Lestat? 5y
Branwen @RavenLovelyReads Yes! It follows Prince Lestat and also Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis! Prince Lestat was amazing! The atlantis one, not so much! 😅 5y

My local library, DeKalb County Public Library and the Georgia Center for the Book put together a fall book preview with representatives from Penguin, Random House, Knopf and HarperCollins. They gave away tote bags and ARCs, too.

I got this yesterday from @tonyahoswalt ! Thank you so much! #Giveaway #ARC

RadicalReader @Literary_Siren what‘s the most challenging drink you make as a bartender? 6y
Literary_Siren @RadicalReader we don‘t really have a challenging customer base. Every now and then someone will ask for a Moscow Mule, Manhattan, etc. but we can‘t make them because we don‘t have the ingredients. I live in Kansas so the only time we get those kind of requests is from soldiers because the town is right outside of Ft. Riley. I have made a Manhattan before and that‘s somewhat challenging because you have to get everything just right or it ruins it 6y

#Giveaway for this #ARC of Anne Rice's newest book. I got it thinking I might read it, but I am behind on the series, so I want to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it more. Comment and let me know if you're interested, and I'll do a random drawing on Wednesday, July 4th. #AnneRice #Lestat #VampireChronicles
