Becoming Sherlock
Becoming Sherlock: The Power of Observation & Deduction | Stefan Cain
32 posts | 6 to read
Have you ever wished that you had Sherlock Holmes-like observational skills? Would you like to be able to learn how to concentrate better and be more productive in a shorter amount of time? Many people believe that skills like that of observation and concentration are something that a person is born with, that you either have it or you don't and that's it. But, fortunately, this is not the case. Like any other skill, mindfulness can be taught, though some will obviously take to it faster than others. In this book, author Stefan Cain teaches you how to train your brain to work more effectively in a variety of ways using several different exercises and methods. Stefan Cain has studied the human brain for years, particularly in regards to its functionality. His research and experiments have shown him that the brain, like other parts of the body, can be shaped, sculpted, and, eventually, trained in such a way as to promote increased mindfulness. By following the methods outlined in this book, and by coming to understand how the brain works, you will learn how to:* Improve your observational skills-you could be the next Sherlock Holmes!* Improve your memory* Increase your awareness* Become more creative* Make solid deductions* Use critical thinking* Use your intuition By reading, understanding, and then implementing the techniques described in this book, you can be a better, more productive, and less stressed you in no time at all.

Sherlock is depicted many ways in print and film but I don‘t think there‘s any doubt that he‘s quite a #singular individual. The same is true for Dr. Watson or, in the case of the show Elementary, Dr. Joan Watson. I chose this quote because I think it highlights what a remarkable character we‘ve been gifted. #Quotsy #QuotsyJune18 #LitsyQuoteChallenge

In the recent BBC iteration of Sherlock they‘ve created a character who finds ways to #manipulate people and events more than I think Sherlock does in canon. Also, the scene this quote from just #manipulates all the feels right out of you.

Erinsuereads Ughhh stopppppp! That was the worst ever 😭😭😭😭 (but definitely one of my favorite episodes 🤷🏻‍♀️) 6y
Lyanneee Poor John 😭 6y
TK-421 I ugly cry when I watch this scene 😭 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @ErinSueG @Lyanneee @TK-421 I think this show did a great job showing their relationship and how much it actually meant to both of them. In canon John faints when Sherlock comes back but I think that his response in this show is much more accurate to how a person might respond. I mean, I might not punch someone but I‘d be mad and it would take me a little bit to come to terms with not being told. 6y
Erinsuereads I completely agree!! When he comes back is absolutely my favorite episode! I‘d probably punch him hahahaha 6y

Ok, Watson had to put up with so much crap from Sherlock! Dates can be found in a #diary so...

Ok, so #obscene can mean offensive and Sherlock has a bit of knack for that. The bottom quote is canon from The Hound of the Baskervilles - expressing a desire for someone‘s skull if a little odd and potentially offensive. The top quote is from the Cumberbatch version and is very close to something Doyle wrote. It‘s a wonder John stayed friends with him! #Quotsy #QuotsyJune18 #LitsyQuoteChallenge

This quote shows up multiple times in Sherlock canon, which I think is pretty #cool. I think it highlights who Sherlock is and how he thinks!

This is canon, by the way. The idea of Sherlock‘s brain being something he could just chose what to keep in it is presented in A Study In Scarlet. Also, he takes issue with remembering bits of trivia like the earth revolving around the sun. Can‘t have all that #junk taking up space for really important information, even if that trivia ends up being important (as it was in the show). #Quotsy #QuotsyJune18 #LitsyQuoteChallenge #Sherlocked

What was ACD‘s #vision for Sherlock? How does it differ from how he‘s been depicted by other writers and on screen?

#Quotsy #QuotsyJune18 #LitsyQuoteChallenge

theresidentromantic I love Benedryl Cumbertwatch's Sherlock! I think it adds this young, impressionable, manic side to his actions that makes them slightly more of who he is as a person. I think (and Cushing is my favorite Sherlock) all the old actors are very old. They're dignified English bachelors doing dignified things, even when Sherlock acts out, it's just a quirky rich old guy. Which is not as palatable for a modern audience or as relatable. 6y
DivaDiane @theresidentromantic 😂 Benedryl Cumbertwatch! 6y
