"Vastra and Strax and Jenny? Oh no, we don't need to bother them. Trust me." Marlowe Hapworth is found dead in his locked study, killed by an unknown assailant. This is a case for the Great Detective, Madame Vastra. Rick Bellamy, bare-knuckle boxer, has the life drawn out of him by a figure dressed as an undertaker. This angers Strax the Sontaran. The Carnival of Curiosities, a collection of bizarre and fascinating sideshows and performers. This is where Jenny Flint looks for answers. How are these things connected? And what does Orestes Milton, rich industrialist, have to do with it all? This is where the Doctor and Clara come in. The Doctor and his friends find themselves thrust into a world where nothing and no one are what they seem. Can they unravel the truth before the most dangerous weapon ever developed is unleashed on London?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Loved this one. I'd take an entire series of just Strax, Vastra, and Jenny.

This is my 2nd audio book finished for #BFC. It was a fantastic. The story is set at the ice fair in Victorian England. Apparently on occasion the Thames would completely freeze over and fun would insue. Also the narrator Dan Starkey was amazing.
In exercise news, I got in 30 mins on the stationary bike today.

The tagged book has Strax in it. Strax on Doctor Who is one of my favorite semi-regulars. Now I have a bumper sticker to add to the DW collection on my car. 😁

Jabberwocky STRAX 💛💛💛 6y

Laura317 @Jaberwocky @cobwebmoth @rabbitprincess Thank you, boys (see what I did there?) Strax is hilarious. I‘d so hang out with him. 6y
rabbitprincess @Laura317 LOL yes! I loved the meme about Strax when Jodie was announced as the Dr: "What's all the fuss about? Everyone can see the Doctor is a boy!" 6y
Laura317 @rabbitprincess I‘ve gotta find that! 6y
obviateit I love Strax! "I can produce magnificent quantities of lactic fluid." ? @rabbitprincess , that meme sounds awesome! I somehow have never seen it. 6y
Laura317 @obviateit I hope we get to see him again with the new Doctor. 6y

My favourite non-companion couple on New Who are Madame Vastra and Jenny Flint. From A Good Man Goes To War to the Twelfth Doctor's debut Deep Breath, the Great Detective & her wife/ninja sidekick bring extra fun to every episode they appear in. I'm a little surprised Big Finish Productions hasn't given them their own audio series, as they'd be a perfect fit for its growing line-up of New Who spin-offs (UNIT, Diary Of River Song, War Doctor, etc).

I so enjoyed this book. I could easily hear in my head each character's voice. I do wish that it was little less predictable, but all in all, a fun read.
