I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first which is a shame. It's definitely a more serious/less fluffy story than the first and I didn't feel the chemistry as much but there were some nice scenes.

Oh gosh, this is not nearly as fluffy as the first book. Eek... :( I know it'll have a happy ending, but yikes.

However, it's the first thing I've read so attentively in a couple weeks, so yay, thanks for solving my lockdown reading slump, Cat Sebastian.

So, this book is just fantastic and I really appreciate what Cat Sebastian is doing here. We have a Black man and a man who was sexually abused by his godfather, both with tons of baggage but so respectful of each other‘s boundaries and feelings. There‘s great messaging on how to be intimate with an abuse survivor and also on finding your people. Sebastian is some romance that transcends the genre while giving us sexy scenes and HEAs. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I love a good romance, especially with a great story and an HEA ending. I had some doubts about this one. It seemed like Sam and Hartley would never get beyond their past damage and trust one another. Cat Sebastian is a great storyteller, and this was one I enjoyed a lot once I got into it. You might want to take a look. Sensuality rating: hot!

I‘m doing better at not adding to the e-hoard so I treated myself on payday - I was going to only get two books but the price was right so I ended up three. The K.J. Charles came out this week and isn‘t in the database.

LibrarianRyan I like this author. 5y

This was exactly what I needed. Great heroes, families both found and bio, an arc that helps everyone figure out what they really want, and a scrappy dog.

Most of all, I love how Sam respects Hartley's boundaries without demanding an explanation. (There are no graphic flashbacks, but Hartley was abused as a teenager and spends the book processing that.) More responses like this, please, when someone doesn't like to be touched.

Susannah I love a scrappy dog! 🐶 6y

I'm absolutely miserable today. I know a lot of y'all are autumn-worshippers, but this time of year is really, really hard for me. I NEED to spend time outside, and I can't comfortably do so when it's cold and rainy like this, and it depresses the hell out of me. Especially since it's only gonna get worse from here.

So I'm gonna read, and drink tea, and eat chocolate, and try to avoid people crowing about their cold weather-love (sorry).

CouronneDhiver Ha! I‘ll try not to rub it in. 😊 6y
zsuzsanna_reads I know what you mean, it's the same for me! Now I can't even spend as long walking the dogs with a 5 months old baby in tow! 6y

Exactly what I expect from Cat Sebastian. Wonderfully written story, with charmingly flawed characters, who deal with real and relatable issues. Sam is strong and patient, Hartly is contrary in the best ways. Reading as they find each other and find a way to build a life together is sweet and wonderful. I can‘t wait to see what the rest of the Sedgwicks do!

@24in48
I really enjoyed the #24in48 readathon! Almost 16 hrs isn‘t a win exactly, but it‘s not too bad since I had a family reunion to attend yesterday. (Managed 3 hrs yesterday while decompressing from so much extroverting - love the fam, but need space and alone time in order to deal! 😂) Submerging myself in books today was the perfect R&R activity! Finished two book and got partway through two more. All very good books! 📚 Reviews to follow!

Not my favourite of Cat's books, but delightful all the same. Found families will always make me happy.

I‘ve been reading a naughty #romantsy m/m historical about a gentleman and a publican. Hartley is a prim and proper gentleman shunned by society, Sam is a retired boxer who runs a pub they are from different Londons. Full of 🔥 and romance 👍(view from the restaurant we went to Tuesday, so west coast)

Sam Fox is the sweetest man ever invented, I swear. He‘s such a cinnamon roll. I love this book. The way he and Hartley actually talk through their issues and misunderstandings is just A+. Also there is a scene late in the book that just filled my heart to bursting.

Small TW: Hartley was abused/coerced as a young man, alluded to in the previous book and clarified here, but Sebastian does not go into specifics. Just FYI.

Here‘s a link to a wonderful interview with Cat Sebastian! I‘m in love with her books, and after reading this article I have definitely confirmed my author crush! 😍 She has so many great things to say that really should be heard! Also, this article serves as further evidence of how important the romance genre is in literature. Enjoy!
