And RIP Andrea Gibson. What a loss! Having her words flood Instagram this past week has been such a gift. I find it WILD she's from Calais, Maine - the border town closest to me. Proof that amazing art can emerge from anywhere!!

Today we finished decorating our tree. It's our first artificial tree, so we've got the Trader Joe's Cedar Balsam candle for aroma. I've been reading Take Me With You by Andrea Gibson.

Coming into our own humanity takes enormous effort, commitment, and bravery. I believe we should be taught that at an early age. I believe that part of the violence of our culture stirs from the myth that kindness is natural. I don't think kindness is natural. I think kindness would only be natural in a world where no one is hurt, and everyone is hurt. So kindness is work. Kindness is our knees in the garden, weeding our bites, our apathies, ⬇️

The trauma said,
"Don't write this poem.
Nobody wants to hear you cry about
The grief inside your bones."
But my bones said,
"Remember the boy who dove into
The Hudson River convinced he was
Entirely alone."
My bones said, "Write the peom."

Before I die, I want to be somebody's favorite hiding place, the place they can put everything they know they need to survive, every secret, every solitude, every nervous prayer, and be absolutely certain I will keep it safe.

I will keep it safe.

Gibson delivers a quick yet powerful read that includes some poetry from their previous works. Their poetry isn‘t for everyone, and there were parts that I couldn‘t relate to. Overall, this was a lovely read.

I don‘t get their writing.

Trying to read this one for a challenge, and it‘s just not grabbing me. I love pithy sayings and poetry that makes me think, but this doesn‘t seem to be the thing for me.

I told myself when I entered the library that I wasn‘t going to get anything. As you can see, I failed gloriously. Can‘t wait to read this! It will be my first experience with their work. :D

I love Andrea Gibson!! This collection of their poetry was similar to Milk and Honey, which I didn‘t particularly care for. This book, however really struck a cord with me and I know I will pick it up again and again. Now I just need to get ahold of their other books; I‘ve read 2 but I think there are 3 more out there!

Book #5

Super short but powerful read. If there had been just a bit more content or heft to the poems, this would have been a five star read. As it stands, it is poignant and funny and strong, and it left me wanting more.

This is a small collection of short poems, but they pack quite a punch. Gibson will be visiting a bookstore near me soon, and I can‘t wait to hear some of their new work!

I really liked this cute little book of poems. They really made me think. I wish I could own it, but it is already overdue at the library. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Gibson created a gorgeous, honest work. They combined art and words to create moving pieces that, I think, anyone regardless of gender, orientation, race, etc. can connect with.

Today‘s #libraryhaul they were all on hold for me except one, the Miles Morales one. I had already renewed it the 15 time limit, but they let me return it and take it out again. Which one should I start with? I #blameitonlitsy I picked all these out looking at posts on here, lol. Soooo much to read!!! Soooo little time and energy. This is a small collection of poetry, written by Andrea Gibson a lesbian author. Much of her struggles I don't relate to but I still found some of her work beautiful and lovely.
