24 posts | 37 read | 21 to read
"Keatinge and Del Duca have created a contemporary world that teems with casual miracles and feels all the more real and lived in for it." - Booklist (Starred) "The story by Keatinge is engaging to read, with a fully developed cast of well-rounded characters and settings that shift and incorporate fantastic elements in a dreamlike manner. del Duca's artwork keeps pace, portraying all these facets magnificently in each panel." - Library Journal (Starred)"Fun and vibrant, Shutter is a wild ride of a comic" -Entertainment Weekly "Del Duca's spiky, energetic style is addictive, and colorist Owen Gieni fills each spread with electricity. Every page seems to vibrate..." - NPR INDIANA JONES FOR THE 21st CENTURY! Marvel Knights: Hulk and Glory writer Joe Keatinge teams up with artist extraordinaire Leila del Duca for her Image Comics debut in an all-new ongoing series combining the urban fantasy of Fables and the globe-spanning adventure of Y: The Last Man. #blackcatchallenge #blackcats @Clwojick

I‘ve encountered many black cats in my readings. My current favorite black cat is Alarm Cat from the comic series titled, Shutter❤️⏰🐱 He makes me wish that I had an Alarm Cat of my own 😊

#shutter #comics #graphicnovels

SandyW Be careful what you wish for. We had an alarm cat. My husband used to feed him immediately upon rising in the morning, so on weekends, when we slept a little later, Gunther would pounce on one of our bladders, having learned early on that was an effective means of getting a can-opener to rise! 😼 6y
CouronneDhiver Ha! Mine likes to stand on your gut or lick your eyelid open mid-sleep. Such a little sh%* 🖤🖤 @SandyW (edited) 6y
Serotonin @SandyW 🤣🤣🤣 I totally forgot that I already have an Alarm 4-year old 😆 6y

Shutter volume 1

About: Young famous female explorer living on an alternate Earth suddenly gets pulled back into a life of action when her family‘s secrets catches up to her. Oddly enough, there is also a strange cat (alarm cat) 🐱

Anyways, this was a fun start to a new series. I like it, and look forward to volume 2 👍

This volume hit all the feels and was a satisfying conclusion to a series that was mostly bonkers (in the best way) and sometimes profound. I‘m glad I got to go on one last wild ride with these characters!

This felt very much like setup. I understand that it was just volume 1, but I felt like it was all build up. Not enough info and barely got to know the characters.

Interesting start to this series. Some elements of Saga here (alarm cat < lying cat) and even Sandman (powerful network of siblings with questionable motives). But intrigued by the lead female adventurer.

GrilledCheeseSamurai I liked this one well enough. It gets reeeeeeeally weird. I found the first half.of the series to be stronger than the later half. 6y

This graphic novel has been on my TBR for ages - so long that I had no idea anymore what to expect. It's sci-fi (I guess?), kind of weird, and rather violent at times. I don't even really know how to explain it, but I think I liked it? Can't decide if I want to read the rest of the volumes.

This has been the first time #Moonshine has been calm enough to just chill on my lap all day, lol. Luckily I had my phone with me so that once I finished Shutter, I could post without having to move him. 😻
This volume intrigued me. Monsters? ✅ Family drama? ✅ Excellent artwork and a killer cliffhanger? ✅✅ I'll definitely pick up Vol. 2, once my comics TBR shrinks a bit more. 😬

ChasingOm This is also my "S" for #LitsyAtoZ. (#ComicsAtoZ) 7y
MoniqueChristine I was really enjoying this comic. I hope I can afford to get more volumes soon. I especially love the art style 🤓 7y

So... this volume was basically bananas from start to finish! Lots of interesting characters and could be an absolutely wild ride. Only drawback - I feel like this may be a slow burn series as a lot of questions were raised and hardly any were answered in this volume. I've got volume two ready to go so we will see. 😄

Shutter was a lot of really interesting and funny ideas barfed onto the page without enough planning or cohesion. By the end of this collection we are still left with the explanation of "secrets" as the answer to an overwhelming amount of questions and there was really no world building. Maybe it gels more in the next volume but I think I'm going to pass. Her dad seems like an a**.

I do really like his GR pic and "about" info. ?

TsundokuAleax I felt the same way when I read it a while back. It was interesting but not enough for me to keep purchasing them. Felt that the first graphic novel did not have enough pay off. 7y

Hmmm....This one might be too much for me. I mean, is that Monopoly Man come to life? It doesn't help that I'm not completely in the mood for it but I'm reading it because it has a hold and needs to go back to the library. There is just so much unexplained randomness going on.

MarriedtoMrT No, not so bad as to bail. More like so-so. I'm over halfway through but I just keep waiting to understand what's going on or for more information about the world and so far I'm not getting it. We'll see. 7y

LindsayReads Hahaha, I saw him as Tik-Tok from The Return to Oz. 😂 I love this crazy series, but I can totally see it's not for everyone. 7y
MarriedtoMrT @LindsayReads In the end, I liked a lot of the elements I just didn't think they all worked well together. Have you read the second volume yet? 7y
LindsayReads I have! I'm keeping up with the series. I can totally see where you're coming from though...it is RIDIC in a way that that can go either way. I just chose to fall down this particular rabbit hole. 🙃 7y

Day two and Sixth stop for #bookstoretourism was Austin Books & Comics (and Sidekick Store). I'm counting this as my fave. I could have spent hours here. They were having a big weekend sale so happy day for me! The staff here are super nice & knowledgeable - shutter and autumnlands were the recommendations I got based on the books I told them I liked. Looking forward to these new reads and will def try to get to this store more often.
