@Andrea4 I am a flake. I am so freaking sorry. I've been sitting here for days wondering if you got your #seatosea book back yet and today I realized.. nope you did not. Because I found it. In the backseat of my car. Under a bunch of the kids crap. Sigh...so NOW it is officially on its way! I have a tracking number and everything!!!
I really need to clean my car out. 🤔

Pickpick

Finally finished reading Neruda the other day!! WooHoo 🎊🎉👏 I swear, @Andrea4 it wasn't because I didn't like it, but I really have to be in a poetry kind of mood and can only read a few selections at once, but I really did enjoy this collection. A lot was beautifully dark, some sad, just a well rounded series. Very glad I picked this up. #seatosea @BookishTrish @Jabberwocky Now...I promise it'll be in the mail soon 😂

Andrea4 Oh, I GET it! I've been doing #poetrychallenge2018 and reading pretty much entire poetry collections of one poet and it is rough if you're not entirely in love (i'm wretchedly gaga over Neruda) with the poet or just aren't in the mood. Cummings 1000+pp was a slog for me! 6y
Andrea4 Oh, and I'm very glad it was a pick for you and you really found some poems you liked! I feel like Stavans said it well in the intro- with so much writing there is bound to be some amazing and some crappy poems! 6y

Working my way through some poetry and having a movie day with the minions. Hoping to get this book finished this weekend and on its way back home by Monday. Also, I couldn't find my pretty pink pen so basic ballpoint blue it is!

Okay! I‘m sorry for being so late you guys, with the wedding and everything it‘s just been a little berserk around here lately. But! It‘s off! @BookishTrish It should be there by the day after tomorrow and there is a little treat for you included in the package 💖. #lmpbc #seatosea @FantasyChick @Andrea4

Andrea4 Haha no worries! Didn't know wedding stuff was happening!! Congrats !! 6y
Jabberwocky @Andrea4 Thank you! It‘s starting to feel like everything I do revolves around this one thing 😆 6y
Andrea4 I know that feeling! 6y

Mehso-so

I have to admit something: Neruda is a master poet & voice of Chilean culture. But I couldn‘t get into this book. I wanted to LOVE it. I wanted to drown in his words & be awakened by them. Unfortunately I couldn‘t. UNTIL THE SONNETS. God his sonnets took my breath away. I need a copy of 100 Love sonnets. Maybe I‘m too much of a romantic to be able to immerse myself enough in his political/cultural work. Or maybe it was just the wrong time for me.

Andrea4 I love his sonnets too! That's how I first fell in love with his writing :) 6y
Jabberwocky @Andrea4 I feel like I will revisit him some day. I know there is so much in this book that is good. 6y

Andrea4 Yea, sometimes you can know it and not feel it though- and that's pretty important with poetry. I'm glad you really liked some of them though. 6y
TheAnitaAlvarez I liked the sonnets too, but I read them in Spanish (it would be ridiculous to read my country‘s greatest poet in translation). He reads very differently in English, from what I see here. 6y
Jabberwocky @TheAnitaAlvarez Honestly I would learn a thousand languages just to read non English authors in their original words. 6y
Andrea4 @TheAnitaAlvarez Yes, very different in English -but this is a bilingual edition. I think I have most of his bilingual editions now because I love reading both. The first book of his I bought was his Odas Elementales though when I was in Chile :) books are awesome souvenirs! 6y
MelAnn @TheAnitaAlvarez I have the Sonnets book with each one side by side - The Original on one side and English on the other. My Spanish from classes long ago is extremely rusty and limited but I still Love Reading it and hearing the language in my head :) Having the translation side by side helps - and yes, it gets lost in translation! 6y
TheAnitaAlvarez Yup, I don‘t mind reading translations, but when it comes to poetry I stick with the languages I know: Spanish and English 6y
TheAnitaAlvarez @Andrea4 oooh, did you get see any of Neruda‘s houses? They are very interesting! 6y
TheAnitaAlvarez @MelAnn I don‘t read a lot of poetry outside Spanish and English, because I have the odd idea that more gets lost in translation in poetry than in prose 6y
Andrea4 @TheAnitaAlvarez No, all of my trips there focused mostly on my grandma and grandpa; we did travel a bit but we were more constrained. Got to see penguins the first time though! 6y

Working a split shift today 😭. I‘ve been working so much and trying to get caught up on Christmas stuff and I just feel like I‘m running on empty. In the meantime I‘m trying to finish up this #seatosea pick soonish. I made a note in the book but I did have to switch to blue pen for a while. Sorry friends. @BookishTrish @FantasyChick @Andrea4

Andrea4 Think it'll be ok. Also, The Stranger Beside Me is really heavy for me right now so I probably will need the full full month to finish it. 6y
BookishTrish Ditto. Except I'm still purple pen. Otherwise ditto. 🤗 @Jaberwocky @Andrea4 @FantasyChick 6y
Andrea4 @FantasyChick @BookishTrish @Jaberwocky We could always decide to rearrange things a little bit to suit us better if we are all having that kind of "pressed for time" feeling that the holidays bring. We could possibly extend this month's read for like 2 weeks- so instead of sending books out at the end if the month we do it half way through or something. Thoughts? 6y
See All 7 Comments
FantasyChick @Andrea4 I'm good with that if everyone else is. I finished my book but could use the extra time before sending out. I don't know about you guys, but things get a bit tighter this time of year lol. I don't want anyone to feel rushed to finish. It kind of ruins the experience. @Jaberwocky @BookishTrish 6y
BookishTrish @Andrea4 @FantasyChick I completely agree. The holidays are a squishy time! (I also am in competition for three jobs right now and my birthday is coming up. Its good but chaotic.) Post date: Jan 14 work? 6y
Andrea4 @FantasyChick @Jaberwocky I think it sounds like we could all use the time so I'm agreed for sure- we can put our books in the mail on Jan 14th and not rush through them :) btw goodluck @BookishTrish 6y
Jabberwocky @Andrea4 @BookishTrish @FantasyChick Omg that would be wonderful. I want to love my book but it‘s just a little more serious than I can handle right now. I‘m in, 6y

Finally diving into this #seatosea pick from @Andrea4, my last book just broke my heart so I‘m looking forward to what seems to be a thoughtful read and a palate cleanser. LOVE that it‘s a bilingual edition. I don‘t read the language but I think there is something powerful about prose in its original state on the page. 💛 🇨🇱 #poetry @BookishTrish @FantasyChick

And thus, through me, freedom and the sea
Will respond to the dark heart.

I already knew how much I loved Neruda before this collection but I absolutely loved a chronological look at his work; it was like a peak into his diaries, listening to his reactions to the world changing. It also opened me up to many of his books that I would not have gravitated towards before.
😢all the feels

Enjoying a quiet, relaxing night with Neruda, the Gilmore Girls, and a festive cuba libre (it's festive because of the red tumbler) .
So needed after the past few exhausting days!

I was taking stock of which collections of Neruda I own (and thought I had quite a few) but 3 of them are selections (which leaves only the #six standing ones as whole collections) and wow, am I sorely lacking. Welp, guess I know some books for my Christmas list!! My only problem is liking a really good bilingual edition!

quirkyreader I have a Penguin edition of one of his works that was rather good. It's packed away so I can't tell you what it is off the top of my head. 6y
Andrea4 @quirkyreader well if it ever makes it out again, you can maybe let me know 😀 6y
Brie I know there‘s a bilingual Penguin edition called 6y
See All 7 Comments
Andrea4 @Brie yea, since I have it already in Spanish though I'll probably pass it over. Lol. My obsessive personality dictates that I don't double up on things 😂 yet a good separate English translation of it would be ok.. yea, I'm weird. 6y
Brie Oh, I see the Spanish edition now. I‘m weird about specific book editions too. 6y
Andrea4 @Brie yea, I mean, ideally, I'd have all his work in bilingual editions printed by the same publishing house...a girl can dream right? 😂 6y
Brie Yeah, there‘s a few I‘d want if only space/money permits! 6y

Hey @BookishTrish @Jaberwocky @FantasyChick I'm suggesting this lovely bilingual edition of Neruda's poetry for #seatosea #LMPBC -it's under 40pp and since it's bilingual it's really like half of that. Also seeing as it's poetry there is lots of room for annotation! Thoughts?

BookishTrish I love this idea! 7y
Jabberwocky Sorry silly question but what does 40pp mean? 7y
Andrea4 @Jaberwocky oops meant 400 not 40 and sorry "pp" is the old plural for "pages." 7y
See All 7 Comments
Jabberwocky @Andrea4 See that's what I thought pp stood for but the book in the picture is obviously more that 40 pages hence the confusion. 😅 ANYWAY. Sounds good to me!! 7y
FantasyChick I haven't read poetry in a looooong time lol so it'll be good to read some I think! I'm in!!!!! 7y
