Hurricane Season
Hurricane Season: A Southern Novel of Two Sisters and the Storms They Must Weather | Lauren K. Denton
Written in Lauren Dentons signature Southern style, Hurricane Season tells the story of one couples unconventional journey to a full life and the relationships that must be mended along the way. Betsy and Ty Franklin, owners of Franklin Dairy Farm in southern Alabama, have decided to put lifes disappointments behind them. At least in theory. Ty manages their herd of dairy cows, while Betsy busies herself with the farms day-to-day operations and tries to forget the longing for motherhood set deep in her heart. But when Betsys free-spirited younger sister Jenna drops her young daughters off at the farm to attend a two-week art retreat in Florida, Betsys carefully constructed wall of self-protection begins to crumble. As those two weeks stretch much farther into the hot Alabama summer, Betsy and Ty learn to navigate the new additions in their world and revel in a home thats suddenly filled with the sound of laughter and life. Meanwhile, record heat promises to usher in the most active hurricane season in decades. Four hundred miles away, Jenna is fighting her own battles. Shed once been free to travel and pursue a career in photography, but all that changed with the appearance of two pink lines on a plastic stick and a boyfriend who hit the road. At Halcyon art retreat, she finally has the time and energy to focus on her photography. As the summer continues, she wonders how her rediscovered passion can fit in with the life shes made back home with her two children. When Hurricane Ingrid aims her steady eye at the Alabama coast, Jenna must make a decision that could affect both her and her childrens futures, and Betsy and Ty find themselves protecting their beloved farm as well as their own hearts.

Another great read by Lauren Denton that I recommend. Her writing flows while also being descriptive and entertaining. Her character development is good and she focuses on the relationships between sisters and also a husband and wife. Ms. Denton is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I also enjoy that she writes about places I am familiar with as she is from my home state and sets her stories in south Alabama.

Betsy and Ty have what everyone sees as a perfect life or so Betsy's sister thinks. Little does she know that by dropping her kids off to Betsy she will heal her sister and bond a marriage closer than ever before. I really enjoyed watching this unfold. There were times when I wanted to scream at Betsy's sister or give Betsy a hug. It was a beautiful story.

I started this school year feeling more underprepared and overwhelmed than I ever have in 15 years of teaching. I love teaching, but I am hoping that this year is my last in the classroom. 😕 My anxiety is out of control. How do I deal with all of this? Lock myself in my room and disappear into a book. 😊 This one is really good so far!!

JennyM Sending you lots of hugs 😘 5y
tracey38 Sorry to hear about your anxiety this year. Many hugs to you! 5y

This was a really nice, relaxing summer read. With just enough drama to keep it interesting.

Sweet southern fiction & a great beach read, this is my 2nd book by Denton. The author's lovely book covers are matched by her stories & characters. This one is about two sisters, close as children but grown apart. Single mom Jenna leaves her girls with childless Betsy & Ty for the summer on their dairy farm & storms are coming. Review & recipe for messy, decadent & delicious Pimento-Cheesy Eggs are on the blog for my book tour review. Link👇🏻.

Gezemice This looks amazing. I am going to try this recipe! 6y

An early morning work call & I didn't eat breakfast so this is brunch. You can't really see the cheese under the eggs but I tried an idea I pinned to melt grated cheese in the bottom of the frying pan & cook your eggs on top of it instead of cooking them in oil/butter. 🧀🥚🥚🍳 are pretty darn good-especially on toast with a side of 🥑 😋I haven't settled on a dish for my book tour review of this one yet & it's set on a dairy farm with 🐔 Hmm...🤔

Rachellynnwright I‘ve tried cooking my eggs like this a few times but my cheese always sticks to the pan! 😠 6y
radhikeey This book looks intresting, waiting for the review. 6y
DebinHawaii @Rachellynnwright What kind of cheese did you use? I think the more 'oily' ones seem to work better. I used a mix of grated Parmesan & Cheddar & I noticed that the spots that stuck a bit were the white ones where the parm wasn't mixed in as well. 6y
DebinHawaii @radhikey I enjoyed it. A sweet story. 6y

Soup is my favorite comfort food. 🍲❤️Tonight's dinner was a bowl of Sunday's leftover Tomato Soup with Orzo, Chickpeas & Artichoke Hearts, with an #ARC I am reviewing for a book tour next week. I hope I like this one as much as the author's first book.

2. About to watch "Call Me By Your Name" but haven't read the book yet.
3. I'd love tea with Jane Austen, Lizzy & Darcy
4. Don't really have long commutes-it's an island & I work from home.?
5. I love this cover-reviewing it in April. Loved the cover on her first book too.

#ReadingResolutions #blue 💙Blue is my favorite color and I have many, many books with covers in different shades of blue. I grabbed a small stack of fiction sent to me for review--some I've read, two I am currently reading, & a few I still have yet to read. I posed them against my blue sideboard with my 'blue lady'-a ceramic piece I found in a little antique store in Seattle about 10-years-ago. I adore her. 💙💎🛋📘🦋👖💙

LeahBergen I like her little round boobies. 😆 6y
