Ruin and Rising
Ruin and Rising | Leigh Bardugo
The capital has fallen. The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne. Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army. Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives. Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destructionand claiming it could cost Alina the very future she's fighting for. Ruin and Rising is the thrilling final installment in Leigh Bardugo's Grisha Trilogy.

Oh, how I loved this trilogy! I loved the characters, the world building, the twists and turns, the love story… everything about it. This part of the story was heart wrenching at times, but the solution is fitting (and yet unexpected). I really love the ending. It was bittersweet and really lends to the humanity of the characters and the beauty of this world that Leigh Bardugo created. I definitely want to get more of her books.

“We didn‘t quite fit together. We had edges so jagged we cut each other sometimes, but… I felt a rush of gratitude so sweet it made my throat ache. Fear came with it. Keeping them close was a luxury I would pay for. Now I had more to lose.”

quote

Ruin and Rising | Leigh Bardugo

“People fell in love every day… But were they happy? Would they stay that way? Maybe love was superstition, a prayer we said to keep the truth of loneliness at bay… The stars looked like they were close together, when really they were millions of miles apart. In the end, maybe love just meant longing for something impossibly bright and forever out of reach.”

This is the 3rd book in the series and as full of adventure and imagination as the first two. This one however, is poignant and bittersweet. The twists Bardugo takes near the end will leave your head spinning. It's up to you if you enjoy the ride.

On a roll today! I finally finished the Shadow and Bone trilogy, 3 years after completing book 2 (which was so-so). It was a good finale. It‘s brutal and violent (which I forgot about) but also definitely lives in the YA space. The ending was a little abrupt but still satisfying overall. 3.5⭐️

"They had an ordinary life, full of ordinary things—if love can ever be called that."

4⭐ A great ending to an enjoyable trilogy. Not gonna lie, I was Team Nikolai for much of my reading, but Mal and Alina's love story won me over in the end. This book was a bit slower to get into, but I devoured the last third, and overall, thought it was a good conclusion to the trilogy. I will definitely be reading the other Grishaverse books in the future.

I'm slowing making my way through Ruin and Rising tonight. It is good, but for some reason, it doesn't hold my attention as much as recent reads. In other news, I think somebody is glad to have me home, and I can honestly say I'm enjoying having a reading buddy.

I loved that I wasn't sure what the outcome would be for the final book in the trilogy. Bardugo has been taking out characters since maybe 50 pages into the first book ? and I can appreciate her always leaving us readers a little bit of "who next?".

Without saying too much, the end was satisfying and I wasn't sure it was possible until Bardugo made it so. The series over all was wonderful YA Fantasy material that is easy to digest.

Woohoo! Even with a chaotic week, my total points for week 4 of #scarathlon for #teamslaughter come to 5,210! I'm pretty proud of that, even if I didn't get to read as many spooky books as I wanted - the spooky season will just be continuing into November for me! (Along with fantasies, MG, and nonfiction)

Thanks to @Clwojick for being an awesome team leader! See you all for #wintergames

A diverting YA romp. No one needs a review of the third book in the series really. This delivered a suitably dramatic, fast-paced conclusion to a fun wee series. It‘s not super original, but it‘s a great escape from the real world.

I loved almost everything about this book. What I find most interesting is that there are parts that I would consider the book to be almost horror, which I somehow didn't expect going in to the series.

For the most part, this was my favorite book in this trilogy. The stakes were higher, most of the characters got more depth, and because the world-building was all done in the first book, this one could be completely plot driven. However, the ending felt like kind of a cop-out. I might be in the minority with that opinion, but it just seemed a bit forced.

It‘s more in between so-so and pick, I liked this one better than the second, and the first is still the best IMO. The ending was too neat for me.

One word…mind blowing. So many things (maybe this author is really good at multitasking cuz I don‘t have her focus lol) happen at once, it‘s hard to focus on one thing at a time. I constantly had to go back and reread a few chapters but even so I couldn‘t put the book down. It was too good!

What an amazing end to the trilogy. I was amazed when I thought back to all the foreshadowing throughout the whole series. Everything makes sense now. The series is complete, everything was wrapped up neatly at the end, I don't think there could have been a more satisfying end to the story.

Am happy to know that there are more books from this universe because it is one that sticks with you and draws you in. It's truly a well-written world.

Why did I wait so long to read this trilogy?! I loved it! I couldn‘t put this series down. Not quite sure how I feel about the ending though. I have very mixed emotions. But if you ask me how I wanted it to end, I couldn‘t tell you! 😂 Maybe because the adventure was so epic, the ending just felt a little blah to me.

After a somewhat disappointing (to me) book #2, this last installment restored my faith in the trilogy. It wasn‘t perfect, but it did include a few surprises and a satisfying ending. I want to watch the series adaptation, but I think I‘ll read the Six of Crows duology first.
