Mehso-so

As others have pointed out, this is a little preachy. But what bothered me more was, with all the preaching about being yourself, most of the “case studies” she presented were women who went prematurely grey, sometimes as young as elementary school, rather than those of us on a more “normal” pathway. I won‘t be trying this for a while yet, as there‘s not time to complete the process before the next family wedding. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Kaye I‘ve had really short hair my whole life til 2 years ago. I decided to let it grow, just to see if I could do it and what I looked like with hair. It‘s now about 3/4 down my back. I cannot believe the number of ladies who have asked me how I can be so brave to let my hair go grey . I‘ve always thought grey hair was pretty even when I was young. So I leave it long and Grey. It doesn‘t matter to me if people like it or not. It‘s my head. 👵🏻 6y
TrishB @Kaye I would also say it doesn‘t matter if you dye your hair......as you say - do what makes you happy for yourself - not others! 6y

ephemeralwaltz @Kaye I love that! I always picture myself older with long long long grey hair. 6y
Kaye @ephemeralwaltz Thank you 💕 wanna see a picture ? 6y
CarolynM I've never coloured my hair and I'm not about to start just because it's greying. I'm hoping to go completely white! 6y

What an awesome book. This book teaches you how to not only grow silver naturally, but how to take care of it because it turns silver for a reason. It talks about the change process and how to keep it from being dry and flaky. This is my new passion, so the silver at the temples will just continue to grow. And when I say this is good for any age, it is. They even focus on those who went silver before they were 30, or those who purposely go silver.

LibrarianRyan @susanw 👍👍🤓 7y
Cinfhen That color is gorgeous😍🙌🏻 7y

Oryx This is my new plan too! Got a hair appointment in 2 weeks to get rid of the dye and embrace the gradually increasing grey. Slightly scary, but looking forward to it! 7y
Lcsmcat @LibrarianRyan @Oryx I just checked this out from the library. If you‘ve started (or finished?) How is it working in real life? 6y
LibrarianRyan @Lcsmcat I don't have much of a go at it yet. Just a few strands at the temple. But the care tips are working great. 6y
Oryx @Lcsmcat mines going good. Lots of ashy bits now to merge with the grey. 😀 6y

The author's demystifies the process of going from dye to natural hair, using photos and individual stories. At the end, she shares some DIY hair care recipes designed for silver hair. Okay, I tried the one with blue food coloring. It's supposed to counteract yellowing silver. It washed out with mixed results.

Visit www.TheBibliophage.com for pictures of my dye -> silver transition and a full review. Thanks to NetGalley and Workman Publishing.

Cinfhen Loved the progression of your hair color and length 😍great review! 7y

UwannaPublishme Loved your review, Barbara! And I see we are both naturally curly haired. 😊🙌🏻My mom and sister just took the plunge, so I must get them a copy of this. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @UwannaPublishme It comes out in Feb 2018, but I couldn't wait to read it so I did! Yay curls! 7y
BookBoggart There are blue based shampoo and conditioners as well as purple. To tone and help with blonde/white/grey hair. I myself am not ready to embrace it yet. Granted my hair started going white at 22. I also just feel more me with crazy colours! One day though I'm gonna do the white plunge! 7y
AiBBot I have embraced my 'chroming' (I learned that from a very cool biker chick) or 'blonding' as well. I may occasionally have small panic attacks when looking in the mirror until I talk myself down and remind myself this is the new me. (edited) 7y
KathyWheeler I'm thinking about it -- maybe in 5 years. I don't know. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @BookBoggart Yes, I've used the blue shampoos many times. The food coloring, just once! 😜 My first grey came through at 18, so I know what you mean. But at about 40, I had so much grey that no color would adhere. So I gave in, and I love it! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @AiBBot I love chroming and blonding - great terms! 👏🏻👏🏻 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @KathyWheeler Yup, you have to be ready for it. 😎 7y
AiBBot If a man can be a Silver Fox, a woman can be a Silver Vixen. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @AiBBot 💯❗️❗️ 7y
Suet624 I gave up coloring 18 months ago. It's SUCH a relief. Yup, I look older, but I am older so it's all good. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Suet624 Congrats on the big decision! I don't mind looking my age, which I honestly think suits me better (on so many levels) than trying to pretend. 7y

You may remember me for my silver hair, but here are #20factsaboutme. The tagged book is on NetGalley and I wonder if they approved me because of my hair! 😎

Lindy Another morning person over here 🙋🏼. Sorry about your chronic pain. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @lindy *waving* early is such a lovely peaceful time. Thanks about the pain - mostly I have a handle on it. Thankfully. 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I'm still fighting my gray hair at 41!!!! My starting grating in my late 20's! 😑 7y

Mommamanzi I adore your hair! 7y
alisiakae We have a lot in common! I am also gluten free, like coffee but can't drink it, have chronic pain (endo), and grew up an only (I'm an adoptee, and found half-siblings this year, and suddenly became eldest of 5!). 7y
Jess7 I'm super surprised at how many people on here were only children. Did you like being an #onlychild? I personally hated it and wanted a #sibling so badly growing up. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I hear ya. I started going gray at 18 and fought the fight for 20+ years. But ultimately had so much gray that covering it was massively expensive and wildly imperfect. I love the ease of no longer coloring! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Mommamanzi Thanks - I love yours too. Saw your pics from the 20 facts post! 😎 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft Wow - that must have been weird and crazy to suddenly have all those siblings! I'm sorry we have chronic pain in common, but I hope you've found ways to help yours. 💕 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Jess7 I would have loved to have siblings growing up. When my parents were aging and I'll, it was even more difficult because I had no one else to share the caregiving responsibilities with. Thankfully I married into a family with lots of people and lots of love. 😎 7y
Jess7 @BarbaraTheBibliophage me too! My husband has three brothers and two have since gotten married. One nephew so far. When I was dating I didn't want to date another only child bc I want my children one day to have aunts and uncles 🤗 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Jess7 Sounds like you're getting the sibling experience now. Yay! I also think extended family is important. I have 18 cousins because my parents each had 2-3 siblings. It's better than nothing, but I'm not especially close to them now. 7y
underthebelljar I'm an only as well! When I was young though I remember wishing for a sister and I still do wish I had a sibling. I want to be an auntie! @Jess7 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @BookishJess Hopefully you can be an auntie by marriage! It's fun. 7y
CouronneDhiver My curly hair objects to heat and humidity too! 😜 7y
monkeygirlsmama 😂Great answers. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @CouronneDhiver Actually I love the way my hair looks in heat and humidity, but it's like wearing a blanket! Honestly, the rest of me is miserable in the heat. 😝 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @monkeygirlsmama Thanks. I keep thinking of more facts to add. 😜 7y
CouronneDhiver Yours must be more cooperative than mine. @BarbaraTheBibliophage 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @CouronneDhiver Maybe. I've had it shorter too. It's more of a hassle when it's shorter. But I love it nonetheless. 7y
LeahBergen Scorpio, too! 👍🏻 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @LeahBergen Yay! October or November? 7y
OrangeMooseReads Mmm cheesecake 7y
ReadingEnvy I share your number 9, just this past year. 7y
LeahBergen October. You? 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @OrangeMooseReads I agree. That's why I make it for practically every event! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ReadingEnvy It was good while it lasted, right? I still love vegetables but it's not enough for me anymore. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @LeahBergen Me too, the 30th. Born on Mischief Night! 😈 7y
melbeautyandbooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft - I'm an only child and I also have chronic pain thanks to endo and fibro. 7y
UwannaPublishme Great answers! Great attitude! And we must drag race our convertibles sometime. 😁👍🏻 7y
ReadingEnvy @BarbaraTheBibliophage for me it was harmful to my health! Every body is different and I decided to listen to mine ... Definitely not going back although my husband still is vegetarian. 7y
EllieDottie I'm jealous of your cheesecake making skills!! I love cheesecake! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @melbeautyandbooks I'm so sorry you never I have chronic pain in common. At least we have books in common too! 💕 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @UwannaPublishme You'd win. My car is truly a putt-putt car. 😜 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ReadingEnvy I'm glad you listened to your body. That's pretty much my story. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @EllieDottie Wish I could make you some. It's always deeeeeelicious! 7y
Gezemice Love your hair! I have chronic tiredness problems, so I am also gluten-free - and was a vegetarian at some point, but it is not good for me on my current diet. @ReadingEnvy 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Gezemice Thanks. I believe diet makes a huge difference in chronic pain. I've coached clients to help, and even wrote my book about it. We're on the same page, M! 7y
