This was actually quite an interesting concept and plot but despite it being barely 300 pages, I feel like it could've been cut down to a novella and that would've built the suspense. I also did find the ending to be somewhat anti-climactic. The conflict of being cut off from the literal EARTH thinking World War III has erupted is absolutely terrifying but then the ending took a pretty traditional trope twist and I just went “...oh...that's it?“

I honestly don't think I've heard anything from people who have read this. I remember it being mentioned at a library conference but that's it so hopefully it's a hidden gem

I really enjoyed the audiobook of The Loneliest Girl in the Universe! For sure one of my top reads this year so far. The way the book is worked well in that format I think. The story had me sucked in from the beginning. I had to know what was going to happen next! The author does a great job of making you feel the way Romy does in the book. Also I liked that the author portrays the teen very realistically.

Just started The Loneliest Girl in the Universe after it has been sitting on my shelf for a while. I‘ve heard mixed reviews and finally decided to take a go at reading it. So far it‘s a little slow, although the concept is interesting. We‘ll see how it goes....🔭🌙🚀

This was trying too much. Too close to Illuminae and The Martian.

Strange book. Reminds me too much of Illuminae, but it seems to be trying too much. Okay, I'm only 10% in. I'm giving it 30%.

Sitting on the balcony in my hoodie. This time last week, I could not sit out here because it was too hot.

Now that I have a curtain rod and my "curtains" can be easily adjusted the sun is hiding behind thick clouds. Sweet irony. ?

This book kept me on my toes chapter by chapter. While it started out slow, by half way through I couldn‘t put it down. A thriller in the most unexpected way with touches of mystery, this book is fantastic. #ya #youngadult

I was a girl who‘s read two books in her whole lifetime until I saw this cover.

The protagonist is relatable and makes this whole journey all the more intense. The things she faces, the twists hurling her way. I couldn‘t put the book down. It was an easy dramatic funny read, it‘s a ride I definitely push others to get on! Don‘t be turned away by the cheesy love story summary. Be enchanted by the concept, and I promise it‘ll be so so worth it.

Romy, is a teenager stuck alone on a generational space ship after her family dies, with only a voice from NASA to help her out. NASA is so incompetent in this story I was convinced that NASA was gaslighting Romy. But NASA isn‘t corrupt, just bad at its job. For most of the story it doesn‘t matter that NASA is bad at its job, because (unlike in The Martian) space is incidental. Romy could be a shut it on Earth, stuck in her apartment.

when I finished this book and I just had to hug it and scream. From start to finish I was 100% invested in the past, present, and future of Romy Silvers...the 16 year old who is also the only surviving crew-member of a spaceship traveling to a new planet that is supposed to sustain a prosperous future for humanity. Surprisingly deep, super fast paced, action packed, kinda spooky, seriously suspenseful, and genuine..✨

BookBumming This young adult science fiction is a MUST READ.

Would you be able to live all by yourself on a spaceship? I finished this one a few nights ago. It was such a cool story! It took an unexpected turn, but I liked it much more than I thought. Romy's experience with her tooth helped me through the extraction of my wisdom teeth a few days ago! 😅 I really recommend this one. Her struggles with anxiety and fear were so well written in my opinion, a great story!

Giving this YA SciFi novel a try.The author is from England(Uni of Nottingham #sherwoodforest)This novel is about a young girl, born & raised onboard the 1st colony ship sent out from Earrh, she finds herself alone at 16 after an accident. Her only contact is messages sent from NASA which take months to reach her, until she‘s told a newer, faster ship was launched & will dock with her within a year. But is it legit or an enemy in sheeps clothing.

I liked this book but I think I hyped it up so much in my mind I did get underwhelmed. Romy is such a well written character, she has the mindset of a teenager with the idiosyncrasies of someone who spent their whole life sheltered in space alone. The ending was a little bit... overdone? But overall I would recommend it for what it is a pretty good YA novel. #TheLoneliestGirlInTheUniverse #LaurenJames

#BookMail Pt1 Up first in today‘s #bookhaul (coz you know,I still have floor space left in my library😉)is this SciFi novel about a teenage girl who ends up being the only person left alive on her spaceship, which is en route to establishing a new earth colony. Romy is all alone, until she starts to receive emails from a boy named J,who says he‘s on another ship coming to join her.But is he really who he says he is? It has fantastic reviews so far.

So im not usually a sci-fi fan but I'm definitely enjoying this one. Romy is the only surviving person on The Infinity. She thought she would be spending forever alone until she finds out NASA is sending another ship to help advance her mission to a planet that could be Earth 2. Who could be on this other spaceship? What awaits her? #sciencefiction #youngadult #romance

Not bad, but not awesome, either. I will say this: this book surprised me.
However, a comparison with Illuminae comes up, almost unbidden — perhaps a few too many parallels (can‘t go into details without including spoilers, I‘m afraid). But where Illuminae had sharp dialogue, good world-building, and twists at every corner, this manages to be only... how can I put it? Its poor distant cousin? Still, not horrible, and a fairly quick read.

In the past 24 hrs, I‘ve been to the library twice & the bookstore once; here‘s the resulting stack. ❤️ I had to buy the Incendiaries after reading the NPR review this morning. I‘d expected to see a big, sprawling novel, but it‘s surprisingly small! As for the library, my hold on the tagged book came in today, and I couldn‘t let it languish. (Am I the only one who personifies the books on the hold shelf as adopted pets waiting to go home?)

bookishkris Oh, smart reader, checking out Blackout AND All Clear. I read Blackout and then had to wait for All Clear. They are so good, I wish I could read them for the first time all over again. 1y
2BR02B The NPR review made me put in a library hold for The Incindiaries. Evidently others had the same idea, because there were already 75 people ahead of me. 😅 1y
LectricSheep @bookishkris I loved Doomsday Book— I don‘t think the era of WW2 Britain (I think that‘s when these two take place?) is as compelling to me as medieval England, but I just love the idea of time traveling historians. 1y

Page turner about a young girl born in space who is stuck, alone, until...well, that‘s the story isn‘t it? I can‘t give that away. There‘s a little twist to it but it‘s not that hard to see coming but it‘s still a good story. I think my friend‘s kids will like it and I‘m going to recommend it to my brother for my niece and nephew.

This has a “YA The Martian without the cursing but with fanfic of a TV show” vibe and I‘m digging it. A young girl, alone in space, but help may be on its way - some anxiety-inducing bits and I‘m pretty sure more are coming.

I can't decide if this would have benefited from an extra 50 pages or if I wouldn't have cared much. As much as I somewhat liked this little tale of a girl all alone on a spaceship, I'm not sure if I necessarily wanted more. Sometimes it felt a bit like information was being left out so I'd read on, and I'm ngl, I would've given up on it if it wasn't because I wanted to know what happened to her parents. An alright, but not /good/ read 😔
