The Woman Who Died a Lot
The Woman Who Died a Lot: Thursday Next | Jasper Fforde
The seventh book in the Thursday Next series by Number One bestselling author Jasper Fforde. The BookWorld's leading enforcement officer Thursday Next is four months into an enforced semi-retirement following an assassination attempt. She returns home to Swindon for what you'd expect to be a time of recuperation. If only life were that simple. Thursday is faced with an array of family problems - son Friday's lack of focus since his career in the Chronoguard was relegated to a might-have-been, daughter Tuesday's difficulty perfecting the Anti-Smote shield needed to thwart an angry Deity's promise to wipe Swindon off the face of the earth, and Jenny, who doesn't exist. And that's not all. With Goliath attempting to replace Thursday at every opportunity with synthetic Thursdays, the prediction that Friday's Destiny-Aware colleagues will die in mysterious circumstances, and a looming meteorite that could destroy all human life on earth, Thursday's retirement is going to be anything but easy . . .

Happy Sunday 🤍 I have SO much work to do today, but I'm going to read for a little while anyway. This is the last book in the Thursday Next series, so I hope the rumors are true about a new one being published in the next year or so...

I gave this 4*, but it almost tipped the cleverly wacky scale. 🤪

Switching to audio for a bit to give my eyes a rest. Jasper Fforde makes me laugh with his ridiculous cleverness. #readathon #deweyoct #DeweysReadathon

Finished Thursday Next #7 yesternight (thrilling, but a bit hastily deus ex machina in the ending), so now onto the last pages of this beauty with coffee, ice cream and strawberries in the sun ☀️🍨☀️📙☀️☕️☀️

Heideschrampf @Sarah83 it just arrived! 6y
Heideschrampf @whatsthEStorey @julesG haha i'm not sure i'd call it an ART collection as it's mostly keepsakes from the edinburgh festivals, but i'm glas you like it! 6y
Heideschrampf @julesG that's why i like paperbacks so much: they're meant to be used. And frequent use shows worship! 6y
julesG @Heideschrampf If you put it like that, it makes sense. Still, I only dog-ear my kindle books. 😂 (I grew up in a tiny library and was told, over and over again, to keep books in pristine shape) 6y

I love all of Jasper Fforde's books. This is part of his Thursday Next series. Begin with The Eyre Affair. If you are familiar with Wuthering Heights, Picture of Dorian Grey, and Jane Eyre, all the better.

Texreader @BostonBookAddict Yes they are except for the first two which are the nursery crime series. 7y
BennettBookworm This is one of my favorite series of all time! Jasper Fforde is a genius. 7y
lynneamch I have all these, too, except for The Eyre Affair, because the person I loaned it to never returned it and we have lost touch. 😩 I'll pick up a used one sometime, but it just won't be the same, as the first was a gift. Sniff. 7y
Texreader @lynneamch My husband and I both have lost books similarly. Lessons learned. 😟 7y

Certainly for the first, and quite possibly last, time in my life, can I say that the seventh book in a series is the best one. Who does that? Jasper Fforde, that's who.

While watching Olympics: rearranging & dusting bookshelves. I'm on shelf 2 and already questioning my sanity for taking on this project @VikingBooks

Eyelit Good luck and have fun! I did that at the beginning of the summer and it basically took me all weekend (cause I quite stupidly got distracted by re-reading passages here and there). 😄 8y
BethFishReads @Eyelit Hoping to stay focused. Haha 8y
Soubhiville It sounds like a fun time to me! @Eyelit I would too- get distracted by my favorite bits 😊 8y

"Librarying is a harder profession than the public realizes." Indeed. The seventh book of the Thursday Next series continues the fantastic story. That being said, not my favorite of the bunch with the reoccurring Day Players and the ever obnoxious Aornis Hades playing the Next family to play a shell game using a mindworm.

That being said, still a delightful read!

Irreverent and funny. These books are always a good listen (or read) when you're wanting something light

This series has some great quotes like "Sorry for the attempted murder. That's not usually how we greet distinguished guests" and "I need to fine tune the made-upian field". I also liked "I've been called that many times before, of course, but rarely by a nun."

Road trip means audiobook. Can't believe I never got around to listening to the last book in the Thursday Next series. I love these. They're like a big inside joke for book lovers.
