Mrs Budley Falls from Grace
Mrs Budley Falls from Grace | M.C. Beaton
7 posts | 15 read
Another Poor Relation has to resort to genteel thievery to make end meet - but she gets much more than she bargains for! Cut off by her own relations, pretty, dainty widow Eliza Budley must visit some other family manor to purloin expensive baubles. Happily, the rich Marquess of Peterhouse is in his dotage and wouldn't know a relative from a bedpost, so Eliza is sent to play the imposter. But things do not go as planned and Eliza is met by the new Marquess - wickedly handsome, and with all his wits about him. And somehow Eliza finds herself confessing her bluff to him and he in turn is much taken with her daring and charm - but can he fall in love with such a scheming widow from the world of trade? Time for the other Poor Relations to get involved and help these confused lovers!

Another charming regency romance from M.C. Beaton.
#Booked2020 #ReadInADay (Read in less than half a day, actually😆) That completes the Winter prompts. Round up post to follow.

LeahBergen I recently bought my first Beaton romance. I think you may have read it? 4y
LeahBergen And beautiful teacup! 4y
CarolynM @LeahBergen I think I've read that one, but they're such fluffy little reads it's hard to remember many details, or which book was which. Very enjoyable way to pass a couple of hours, though😉 4y

LeahBergen That‘s good to know. I though the very same when I picked it up and read the back! I‘m the same way with Georgette Heyer books; I‘ve realized that I need to keep a list of the ones I‘ve read. 😆😆 4y
rockpools I had no idea MCB had written regency romances. I might have to look these out. 4y
Lcsmcat I ❤️ your tea cup! 4y

My #bookspin book for this month, I do love these delightful caper/romances by MC Beaton. This one has the unassuming Mrs. Budley pretending to be the relative of a rich, incompetent marquess, except his astute, not at all incompetent nephew has inherited, throwing a wrench into the Poor Relations‘ plan to raise money. TheAromaofBooks Somehow I haven't read any of Beaton's writing, despite the fact that they sound exactly like books I would enjoy! 4y

Perfect “fluff” (meant in the best way) for when one is too distracted by other things to concentrate. #3 in the series.

jmtrivera I love this series! 4y

Mrs. Budley, a widow from a "good" family, gains a lonely marquess's interest, but the story is pretty light on romance. They spend time & develop an interest, but separate due to societal pressures. We then focus on the hoteliers' business opportunities, which offer financial security, but also establish them firmly as being "in trade" and no longer acceptable society. I like how Chesney ties in the commentary, especially in such a humorous way.

#maybookflowers #readthisnotthat I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I can't be the only one who would rather wait longer or pay more to get the more attractive cover of a book. The top row is the version of the Poor Relation Hotel series I own, the bottom row I'd be a little embarrassed to be seen reading! 😄

LeahBergen I'm with you there. I will always wait for the better cover! 7y
