pickThis is Eleanor Roosevelt‘s first published book written at the height of the Great Depression. Her common sense advice ranges from dated (managing servants) to utterly prescient (fair trade clothing). Required reading for all U.S. citizens! (Disregard the coffee stain!) ☕️??

I had the honor to visit Arthurdale and have lunch with a homesteader that moved from Scott‘s Run. He told me this story before I read it in her words:
‘A child had a rabbit as a pet, and an older child said rather mockingly as the small boy brought out his pet to show me, “He says he won‘t let us kill it to eat when it grows up, but we will see about that.”
She made sure no one ate that rabbit!
pickThe advice was a bit old fashioned (obliviously!). But she is awesome. I need to read more about and by her.

The book has a lot of great, still relevant advice. It also has recipes that include "hot prune juice". So kind of a mixed bag.
so-soThis short volume, written in 1932, has some astounding moments of prescience. Roosevelt gives practical tips for women (and, at times, men) meant to help families through the depression and also help to change attitudes and values in the changing world. But, to a modern audience, the advice is not particularly informative and at times is clearly dated. #netgalley
Have I ever wanted a NetGalley approval so badly? I need to feel empowered. Therapy, my husband, Leslie Knope, and Lin-Manuel Miranda's been doing a lot for me this week, but Eleanor might actually get me over the hump.
