Listy to the rescue! Please please help me out.
What ideas do you have for a gift for:

1. Your mother
2. Your father
3. Your mother-in-law
4. Your father-in-law

These 4 people are super tough for ME to think of gifts for! So what are YOU getting YOURS this year? Or what ideas have you had in the past that worked out really well?
Any help..any idea..would be SO so sooo much appreciated. 🤗

Pamwurtzler We exchange baked goods with the in-laws. I did introduce my MIL to Louise Penny-she loved those! 6y
tournevis This year, I made my mother a vanity pillow with our pictures on it. I. Giving my father a book about jazz, as I do every year. My in-laws are deseased. 6y
Laura317 DNA test, a zentangle book and Bigfoot socks for my mother. Sad to say rest are no longer here. 6y
See All 19 Comments
TrishB Only have MIL left & she's massively difficult too! 6y
cathysaid When I'm stuck, I make donations in their name or at least to a cause about which they care. For instance, a friend's mother has Alzheimer's and I donate there, print the receipt and give it in a card. 6y
Sassy_Steph Mom: cosy reading socks, dad: fitness tracker 6y
merelybookish My dad is super hard! I've started buying him nice bottles of wine or good whiskey. 6y
merelybookish My dad is super hard! I've started buying him nice bottles of wine or good whiskey. 6y
Andrea4 Ideas: puzzles, park memberships, decor items, clothes, gift certificates for clothing or other stores, experience gifts like spa gift certificates or stunt-driving training or axe throwing, wine/alcohol, books (of course 😂), tech stuff they could use, etc. 6y
Karkar I bought my dad Ugg slippers and mom gift certificate to Barnes and Noble 6y
ItsAnotherJen @Andrea4 😂 you can buy a gift certificate for ax throwing?? Stunt driving?? I want to be your friend! 6y
Andrea4 @JenFowler for sure you can! Well so long as somewhere near you offers them! The stunt driving one can get pretty pricey but since there was no proce range I threw it out there! Plus you can always go in on a gift with someone. 6y
CrowCAH For men, business print fun socks. Mom, nail polish. Can‘t go wrong with jewelry for any woman. 6y
AlaMich I have found and recommended the most awesome commuter mug. The brand is Zojirushi and they have several models on Amazon. They keep the temp of your beverage forever!! A good gift for anyone!! 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker My husband and I usually get our parents gift cards and tell them date night is on us. All the kids in both families are grown and married so they really enjoy going out by themselves lol. (edited) 6y
Sharpeipup I typically do photo gifts for our moms. This Christmas , it‘s a calendar full of photos (mom‘s always complain about not having any) plus gift certificates to be used throughout the year. 6y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick We usually do restaurant and movie gift cards for my MIL and a nice bottle of liquor for my FIL. My dad usually requests items from Home Depot or gift cards toward a large purchase from there. My mom doesn't do much shopping for herself so I usually treat her to a few new shirts and cozy pajamas. One year I did find a cool bicycle planter for the yard that was a big hit. 6y
Linear Mug with mug cake packets. Family photos framed or in a calander. Childhood memory photo of you, or for your spouses family have a photo of your spouse, as a kid with the parents in a shadow box with scrapbook sticker things on it that deal with the memory. 6y
Sleepswithbooks I spend time searching through Etsy, FemaleCreations website, google search “unique gifts for men.” You can find really special type gifts that way. Looking up something as simple as “cooking” if your MIL is a good cook or family oriented. I got my former MIL a big serving spoon last year that was engraved as a “blessing spoon” and came with a card stating it was to bless those who ate at the table with love. She ❤️ed it. 5y

This might be fun!
I‘ll go first:
1. I would like to give the Dalai Lama a...
2. hula hoop. I think he‘d find it joyful.
3. Sabriel
4. A paperwing
5. Fred & George Weasley (HP books)

1. I️ like rich, saturated colors.
2. Books obviously, cats, tea, chocolate, knitting, opera
3. Too many! Maybe Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde (not 50 Shades haha) or Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood.
4. I️ like most fiction, both realistic and sci-fi/fantasy
5. Short stories, non fiction, spiders
6.Strawberries and raspberries aren‘t berries, but bananas are
7. None that I️ can think of

emtobiasz I think your random fact (6) has blown my mind. 6y
Molly_the_mezzo @emtobiasz It‘s not often that having a plant biologist for a mother comes in handy, but it does occasionally give me good trivia. 6y
HannaPolkadots Have you seen the Alias Grace show on Netflix? 6y
Molly_the_mezzo @HannaPolkadots No, but I‘m looking forward to watching it. 6y

1. Red, mustard, lime green... basically anything bright and/or jewel toned.
2. Dogs, diverse books, queer stuff, baking, Funko Pops, the X-Men, Japan, summer, dragons, holiday lights.
3. THE SECRET COUNTESS by Eva Ibbotson.
4. Fantasy, science fiction, romance, historical, crime fiction, superhero comics.
5. Winter, beige, racism, homophobia, oranges.
6. Mirrors creep me out.
7. https://www.librarything.com/profile/xicanti

MinDea Mirrors in bathrooms freak me out. Been a fear since I was a kid! Always afraid when I look up someone will be standing behind me! 6y
xicanti @MinDea I have a friend who once looked in her bathroom mirror and saw another person's face instead of her own. She found this fascinating, not terrifying. 6y
MinDea That just gave me chills 6y

MinDea Nope. Nope. Big nope. 6y
xicanti @MinDea she was SO CHILL when she told the story, too, while I couldn't look on a mirror for about two weeks afterwards. 6y
DarcysMom I spent years being afraid of mirrors in the dark - I blame it on Bloody Mary... **shudders** 6y
xicanti @DarcysMom when I was a kid, everyone wanted to try Bloody Mary but no one wanted it to actually work, so we did it in the change rooms where we couldn't turn the lights out. 6y

1. Both! I love used bookstores!
2. I‘m always looking to get into a good new series, but I have nothing against standalone.
3. Tea! Especially rooibos.
4. Candles. I like the flicker.
5. I‘m a jewel tones kinda gal.
6. Both. Coziness is a priority!
7. I don‘t own any, but I think they‘re cute.

GlassAsDiamonds I love “jewel tones kinda gal”!!!! 😊😊😊 6y

Ooohhhh trying to crop this almost killed me. No Apple Notifications I DO NOT WANT AUTUMN STICKERS RIGHT NOW!!! 😱😱😡😡🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Okay, now THAT‘S out of the system:

1)Either if the book itself is in good condition!
2)Either so long as it‘s not a cliff hanger ending (I‘ve recently revised my opinion about jumping into the middle of series!).
3) Coffee
4) Candles
5) Bright
6) Neither - Mumbai‘s to hot 😭
7) FUNKO! 😊

Thanks @Tiffy_Reads

🔹Both
🔹Stand alone or first in a series
🔹Coffee and hot chocolate
🔹Both, but I‘m not a big fan of baked good scents.
🔹Any color
🔹Both, but no knee socks as I have chunky legs
🔹Yes, I don‘t own any but I think they are cute.

While this isn't officially related to #SecretSantaGoesPostal #WinterSolsticeBookExchange, it can guide your match in making some further determinations for your package. Hat tips to the amazing @Tiffy_Reads for making this, and the phenomenal @KVanRead for sharing with me. Can never have enough questions with something so fun, right 😆? (If you'd like to come up with something similar, we'll be sure to share it.) #giftideasthisorthat

Sarah83 And your answers? 😉 6y

💙Bright colours usually
🦄I‘m neutral about socks or blankets
🦊I don‘t have any Funko yet but just depends what it is!

🎄 Either are fine with me!!!
🎄Usually stand alones
🎄 sweet tea and hot choc!!
🎄 I‘m using more wax cubes, but candles are great too!!
🎄 Both!! I‘m always cold!!!
🎄 I skipped this one! Usually neutral! I probably need more bright in my life though!!!
🎄 ummm no not really 😊

#giftideasthisorthat

BibliophileMomma I‘ve been using wax cubes all the time. Less of the open flame worry with the kiddos around. 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Tiffy_Reads yes!!! I did have a patient recently with bad burns from a wax warmer though!! 😱 6y

📚Used or new!
📔Stand alones
☕️All of the above!
🕯Candles!
🔮I love bright & I love minimalist looks too
👣People send blankets?! I'd be happy w/ either
👾No funko pops for me, thank you, they really aren't my thing. I love things I can use or display out and about, like badges and pins, notebooks, candles, tote bags, bookmarks, that sort of stuff. Otherwise my life gets too cluttered. Or mini art prints, I love those.

Natasha.C.Barnes 🍫I've always wanted to know people's dietary restrictions and preferences for food gifts (or if they don't want any food gifts), so here is my info: I'll eat almost anything, I CAN eat nuts/dairy/spicy things, etc. And I do drink. (I like to make liqueurs and infusions that i would totally send along with books and gifts but I never want to assume that ppl drink alcohol.) so like a baby bottle of flavored bitters is a really good present for me. 6y
Daisey Great information to make available! I also enjoy making homemade things like infused liqueurs and baked goods but it‘s hard to know if someone else will enjoy them. 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Daisey Totally! The Halloween swaps were my first and I decided to send a can of boiled cider syrup bc it can be used in so many different ways, even though I use mine in cocktails as a simple syrup. 6y
See All 7 Comments
Natasha.C.Barnes @Daisey But I can only hope that they liked it! 6y
Daisey Cider syrup sounds amazing for fall cocktails! 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Daisey It so is!! I've got a post on it with recipes, I'll go tag you in it. 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Daisey P.S. Have you ever tried making allspice dram? That's what I'm trying next. I've never made it but I have tasted it and it's winter holidays in a bottle--turns a hot toddy from lemony bourbon water into something magical. 6y

-Candles.🕯
-All the colors! 🌈
-Socks! I never wear matching ones... 👢
-I like Funko Pops well enough. 👤

The book I have is actually a compilation of Sanna's book and Rebecca Germany's Homemade Holiday Gift Ideas. I bought it at a dollar store a few years back and I've finally thought about reading it for ideas BEFORE the holiday season! Yay me! Ha
