The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine
The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine: No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (16) | Alexander McCall Smith
In this latest installment of the beloved and best-selling series, Mma Ramotswe must contend with her greatest challenge yeta vacation! Business is slow at the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, so slow in fact that for the first time in her estimable career Precious Ramotswe has reluctantly agreed to take a holiday. The promise of a week of uninterrupted peace is short-lived, however, when she meets a young boy named Samuel, a troublemaker who is himself in some trouble. Once she learns more about Samuels sad story, Mma Ramotswe feels compelled to step in and help him find his way out of a bad situation. Despite this unexpected diversion, Mma Ramotswe still finds herself concerned about how the agency is faring in her absence. Her worries grow when she hears that Mma Makutsi is handling a new and rather complicated case. A well-respected Botswanan politician is up for a major public honor, and his reputation is now being called into question by his rivals. The mans daughter has contacted the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency to investigate these troubling claims, but, as in so many cases, all is not as it seems. In the end, the investigation will affect everyone at the agency and will also serve as a reminder that ordinary human failings should be treated with a large helping of charity and compassion. Anyone who is familiar with this series won‘t find it surprising that Mma Romatswe has a hard time actually getting work off her mind when she goes on holiday.

I love that everywhere she goes she wants to help the people she encounters, and the overall positive outlook of these characters.

I always find myself craving tea and cake while I read though. Wonder why 😘🍰☕️.

Mitch A series that stimulates the need for tea and cake must automatically get 5 ⭐️s ! 🤣 2y
Soubhiville @Mitch Yes! 5⭐️ and 3 cheers for cake and tea! 2y
Tamra Lol, so true! 2y

This was one of the least enjoyable ones in this series, I usually love these books. In this one Mma Ramotswe took a holiday as a result I don‘t think it had the same dynamics as others in the series as it didn‘t have the quality of interactions with the other characters. Also not sure it is working for me since making Mma Makosi as co-director as has again changed the dynamics between the two of them. Almost antagonistic relationship in this one.

Andrew65 Hope the next one gets back to the usual quality. 6y

Started listening to the tagged book, which is book 16 in the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. So now I have book 15 (physical book) on the go at the same time as book 16! Must be mad! Read books out of order many times but never two books in the same series at the same time!

ReadZenRites I will be really impressed if you keep them straight 6y
Andrew65 @ReadZenRites Definitely managing so far. 😊 6y

This reminded of the first couple of books in the series. I enjoyed the humor and the brief glimpses into how the characters have changed. And the audiobook is enchanting!

This book is on my TBR pile, but I really made this post to try out a different collage app. It's kind of neat. I also want to read the series in the right corner. Sidney Chambers on PBS is swoon-worthy!

Finished hour one of the Dewey's Readathon, and am on page 41 of this fun book. If you are interested in southern African culture and like a good cozy mystery, this is the series for you. It makes me giggle and takes me back to memories I had of when I was raised in that part of the continent.

MyBookLife I have read a few of the books in this series. I remember going to the store right after this one and buying rooibos tea :) 8y
HardcoverHearts @MyBookLife - yes! Rooibos tea is wonderful! 8y
Plsti I enjoy this series so much. I love the gentle observations that the characters make. The vivid descriptions of Botswana make me feel like I've been there. It is obvious that the author knows and loves that part of Africa very much. 8y
