Ooohh, yummy!
Come to think about it, I haven't been to a picnic for years... Time to change that, right?
1. Pasta salads, canapés, falafel, eggs, salads, fruits & desserts, I suppose... 😋
🥗🌺🍉🥂🧆🍛
2. Psychological thrillers or YA thrillers, my go-to beach read choice. Or short stories.

#HauntedHouse
A Japanese horror movie from 1977. A wild experimental mix of styles, original & totally bonkers. You wonder what drugs the whole staff were on while making this.
Certainly gruesome, creepy & slasher in parts, it's visionary, dramatic and also quite feminist for its time.
First and foremost, a hilarious haunted house movie.

Don't know why I own the English and German version of this when I haven't even read it yet... 😅
1. Don't know whether they're unusual or not, but I have a knack for language, storytelling and literary translation. So much so that all my profs at school & uni said they wanted to read whatever I put out or translate.
2. Bellatine has a penchant for woodwork and can revive things and beings with her hands 😮
Her brother Isaac is much more than a street performer & con artist - he can literally become/be another person in the blink of an eye...
Here's my emergency #Bookspin list for May.
Couldn't come up with anything better. Been battling with a bad phase of depression for the last weeks. Got new meds some days ago, spent yesterday night at the ER (because of an allergic reaction or 'cause they are too strong...).
Now at my doctor's.
I yearn for things to get better and my life to get back on track...
@TheAromaofBooks
Just three?!?😮 How, Denise???😁
I just love 80s music. I cannot possibly decide.
And as a fan of Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode, (not only their 80s songs!) I love two groups that had their first success in the 1980s which makes it even more impossible to choose.
3 fave songs from other artists:
1. True Faith by New Order
2. Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield
3. The Loco-Motion by Kylie Minogue

Joining #AwesomeApril hosted by lovely @Andrew65
As the last few days have been turbulent and decidedly not about reading, a low-key #readathon as this might just be the thing to get me back on track.
🍀😊🍀
Join the fun if you like!
Yesterday was the 24th of April, time for the drawing of #TwinPeaksReadingChallenge 's featured prompt of April/May. Sorry I'm one day late, but... Yesterday has been incredibly taxing, I just couldn't.
Remember, it is completely optional whether you try to prioritise the prompt or not! It's a bit of added spice for those who feel like it.
This month the prompt is 5. Deputy Hawk - a book by an indigenous author.
#TPRC #TwinPeaks #indigenousauthors
1. Yup. A trip with my boo from Friday till Tuesday next week. Looking forward to that 😊
2.Nothing atm, as it's night outside and the blinds are closed. At daytime: neighboring houses, a backyard with some fir trees.
3. Stuttgart, Germany. It's been overcast today, about 55 degrees Fahrenheit. About an hour ago, a storm has broken loose... 🌬️☔
Perfect for reading on the couch!

Gunhild is trying to prevent Ragnarok, i.e. The Great Battle and subsequent perishing of the Gods and the End of the World, with the help of Loki, trickster god par excellence of Old Norse mythology.

1. Nope. There are no heroes in humankind. If you'd like a better worded answer, take a look at @The_Pennilesss_Author 's post!
2. Done. Can highly recommend this. It offers great illustrations and a slightly feminist look on the Ancient Greeks, which you don't find too often.
Such a sweet book! Nearly all picture and wordless, the illustrator, Carolina T. Godina, cannot be praised high enough. The eponymous moon bear is the just the cutest little one and the stardust/moonlight he's made of adds magic sprinkles.
Moon Bear is a quick, magical read. 4,5/5⭐

My #Bookspin list for April.
I included a lot of #Roll100 picks to somehow get me to finally read them - and a lot of mood pick opportunities in case that plan doesn't work... 😁

These three.
The Therapist is a Netgalley ARC;
The colour of blood is my March #Doublespin pick, an Irish hard-boiled mystery set in Dublin I'm not enjoying too much so far, sadly;
The tagged is a non-fiction about psychopathy in females by a very cool and well-known forensic psychiatrist in Germany.
Much #forensicpsychiatry this Easter!😂

1. Tagged. The Earthquake Bird by Susannah Jones. I remember being obsessed by it some years ago. - I even once missed my commuter train stop on my way home from work at theatre in the middle of the night because I was so hooked 😅
2. Unheimlich (=eerie, uncanny), a YA romantic thriller omnibus by Ursula Isbel. Got it on my 13th b'day. Still reread it every once in a while.
3. After Dark and/or Dance Dance Dance, my two faves by Haruki Murakami.
Thank you for the tag @Eggs😊💖
These questions are not as easy as they seem at first🤔
1. Haruki Murakami, Mona Awad, Peter Swanson, Megan Abbott
2. Tagged. I have many fave genres, but I think 'soft', gothic psychological horror is 'my thing'. And my appreciation for Bunny knows no bounds.😄
3. Don't read series much, I'm afraid.

Tag @The_Penniless_Author @Enchanted_Bibliophile
An old seaside mansion. Dark gothic atmosphere. An exotic setting. Sinister locked-room mystery. Depraved and broken characters. A public prosecutor in search of the truth. Unreliable narrators.
Japan, unsettled nation during the aftermath of WWII. Multiple elaborate murders. Elegant, refined prose. An outstanding translation.
...
I've been participating in #Gottacatchemall hosted by @PuddleJumper since the beginning of 2024.
Until now, however, I wasn't sure about how I wanted to play the challenge. Did I want to use a book for multiple fitting prompts or did I want to do “1 book for just 1 exact prompt“?
I've now decided to do the 'One book = one prompt' approach this year, it's more difficult and more fun 😊
Just logged my first books and caught my first #Pokemon 🥳

An epic high fantasy, written by my best friend 😊.
1. Spending time with my hubby and with my boo, going to the cinema and have a time as quiet & chill & lovely as possible (which has to be enough as I've been in a deep depression phase for - what now? years?)
2. Murder on the Christmas Express by Alexandra Benedict
3. Andrea und das Schlossgespenst (Andrea and the ghost of the castle) by Klaus Wolff, which was a childhood book from my mother, published in 1966. (Not translated into English).
Another 24th has come, therefore it's time for the drawing of #TwinPeaksReadingChallenge 's featured prompt of March/April from my impromptu prompt jar 😁
Remember, it is completely optional whether you try to prioritise the prompt or not! It's a bit of added spice for those who feel like it.
This month the prompt is 20: Big Ed & Norma - a book with star-crossed lovers.

Love this! @TheSpineView
1. a Yuki Onna (the Japanese Snow Woman) 😎 or a vampire.
2. so many! tons of bestiaries - the tagged one is one of my favourites. in fiction, there are loads as well: American Gods, Dracula, Carmilla, Thistlefoot, Folklore - a Dark Anthology, Swamplandia!, Spirits Abroad, the Odyssey, fairy tale collections, so many ghost stories, etc. etc. etc.

1. a) go to 2 gigs (of the same band) on Tuesday and Saturday with my boo & b) enjoy my holidays 🥳
2. That depends on whether I work or not. On days I work: 30 mins max. On days off: 1,5 hrs on average.
3. I do, atm. 😇 My second novel. Don't know whether I'll be able to finish it, but I'll surely try. It's an exploration of a trauma, and doesn't belong to any genre...

@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
My first book by a Malaysian author. Wow. Simply wow. Short stories of various genres - literary fiction, #fantasy, ghost story, #romance, all steeped in Malaysian myths.
Grouped, very cleverly, in Here (various folk groups in Malaysia), There (Malaysians emigrated to Great Britain) and Elsewhere (spirit world), a compendium of very strong stories and a glimpse into foreign worlds. 4,5/5⭐
#ItTakesAllKinds #WithMap @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
A high-voltage sci-fi adventure story in a Disneyland-like amusement park of the future. The computer programming starts to glitch increasingly, pixel-holes, a few hushed-up attacks & accidents happen. Soon the AI goes fully awry and the remaining guests and staff of the park have to fight for their lives against attractions turned unpredictable & murderous to find a way out of the madhouse.
