In this Mayan-inspired fairy tale, 18-year-old Casiopea Tun is the granddaughter of a cruel and wealthy old man, treated like a poor relation because her late father wasn't light-complexioned or rich. When she discovers her grandfather's secret, she is caught up in a war between immortal brothers, battling for supremacy in Xibalba, the underworld. An engaging and captivating story, vividly told.

Amara complicated her already precarious life so much in this book. It was incredibly stressful. The ending we got in this book was the exact result of her decisions and it was unfortunate but I couldn‘t see any other way out of it. Curious to see how this trilogy will end. I love some of these characters, I‘m scared for them and I‘m hoping happy endings. That being said, there is also a couple characters I want to see dead ☠️🤬

A fast-paced read about a woman “blessed” by the goddess of protection who finds herself used as a pawn in man‘s quest to become king. The most interesting aspect of the story is that those touched by the gods can choose their fate while normal people have had their lives written by fates upon birth.

I generally love books about the 3 fates, so I was very interested in this. This book has complex world building. A little too complex for my tastes. There was too much information to process and I felt confused most of the time. Io and Edei were a cute couple, but that didn't make up for the rest of the book. I found myself forcing myself to finish the book, and that is not a good sign.

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage So… not interested in the sequel then? 😉 2d
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I saw this and the sequel hyped by Owlcrate, but never picked it up 2d

ReadingOver50 @Booksblanketsandahotbeverage no, not interested at all. It felt amateurish. 1d

I loved this one. Hades x Persephone is one of my favourite gods to read about. ❤️

A maiden loses a shoe, another moves in with a beast. We all know these tales…but who told them? In a spellbinding brew of literary history and travel writing, through their adventurous lives, unique settings, and, of course, the tales themselves, meet 7 “fairy tellers”: the young Syrian traveler who took Aladdin to Paris, the “ugly duckling” of “Ugly Duckling” fame, the widow behind “Beauty and the Beast,” the wife behind Wilhelm Grimm, and more!
