The Lying Life of Adults | Elena Ferrante
post image

purebugbeauty72 Coming of age story by the great Elena Fetrante, that ended just when I really wanted it to keep going. She spoiled us with the epic Neapolitan novels. I want to follow Giovanna into adulthood to see if she ends up better than her parents and her aunt. 3y

I've been a fan of Trevor Noah for a while, but now I'm a SUPER fan of Trevor Noah. His voice, his experience, his insight... it's a gift that this country does not deserve. Everyone shut up and listen to him.

"What is the world's greatest lie?" the little boy asks. The old man replies, "It's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate.

Hoping for rain today so I can make in dent in this one. One week until book club.

purebugbeauty72 Update: It was meh. I wasn't invested in any of the characters and didn't really care who did it or why. I would have ditched it but it's for book club. 5y

Book Two of the Neapolitan Novels had me screaming and sobbing. Two girls trying to navigate adolescence, friendship, love, jealousy, expectations, education...with literally zero adult guidance. I am going to wait a few days before starting Book Three so that my family don't think that I've totally abandoned them. Can't wait to see how HBO does with Book One.

lalatiburona I thought they did a good job!! What did you think? 5y

Just finished reading The Paris Wife, so it only seem getting to follow it up with The Sun Also Rises. She earned this dedication and deserved it.

I loved it. And now I'm really mad at and really sorry for Ernest Hemmingway. And now I'm going to go reread The Sun Also Rises and all the Nick Adams stories.
