This book is crazy! 😳😳 I had no idea what I was in for initially. I'd never heard of the book, but a friend had picked it up and I decided to grab it from the library not even knowing what it was about. Crazy sci-fi goodness is what it's about....and it was fantastic. I'm afraid to give anything else away! #darkmatter #scifi #januaryreads #mindblown

This has got to be one of the funniest and most fun books I have ever read. Not only is the author unbelievably witty and charming, but she invites you to interact through text messages along the way. #textbookakr #januaryreads #humor

One-In-A-Million Boy | Monica Wood

So many people were doing this in book clubs, etc. and came highly recommended. After a few months of a reading slump this book about a cantankerous old lady and a boy's record breaking dream was just what I needed. There's so much more depth and heart to this magical story. What a great book to end the year with! #monicawood #oneinamillionboy

The fourth in the series and just as engaging as the others. My niece was very happy to get it this Christmas, and I was very happy to read it to her! #kidlit #princessinblack #shannonhale

EvieBee Shannon Hale? Looks awesome. I like her stuff! 7y

Re-reading this gem. I have way too many books going at once, but I couldn't resist adding this one to the stack. There's even a chapter on Christmas so it's a legit winter read. Ha! #mirandahart #humor #laughoutloud

EvieBee I own this on Kindle and have yet to read it. I should fix that! I hear she has a sequel coming out. 7y
monandez @EvieBee84 I hadn't heard about the sequel! 😮😃 7y
EvieBee @monandez Maybe not a sequel but another 📚? 7y

Great, character driven book. Jayber struggles with faith, love, and recounts stories about life in a small town and the people that inhabit it. #wendellberry #jaybercrow

You Will Not Have My Hate | Antoine Leiris

"I would have liked my first book to be a story, not mine. I would have liked to love the words without fearing them." Antoine's wife, Hélène, had her life tragically taken from her in the attack at the Bataclan in Paris. To read this is to look into someone's grief that is raw and fresh in the days after the attacks--as he puts words to the pain he feels and the new reality he and his 17 month old son must now face together.

Absolutely fantastic! I have to admit I don't know much about the history of the Berlin Wall and East/West Berlin, but this book was so informative and fascinating. It is told through a ten-year-old boy (along with some Secret Files) named Noah whose life is turned upside down when he and his parents, who have secrets of their own, move to the GDR where everyone is listening. #cloudandwallfish #mrschureads #annenesbet

Before the Fall | Noah Hawley

This is one fast paced read! A private plane goes down and only two survive, an artist and a little boy. We are taken through the histories of those on board, drawn into the investigation, and given a glimpse of how the media turns tragedy into headlines. "Information into entertainment." #beforethefall #noahhawley

This book was completely fascinating! It may seem like a book of ghost stories meant to send chills down your spine, but in actuality it is a break down of how these stories originate, the history behind the people, places, and things themselves. There is so much to learn here with the added bonus of the weird tales to go along with it. #octoberread #ghostland

EvieBee But, did you get even a teensy bit scared? 7y
monandez @EvieBee48 Haha! I do have to admit after reading large chunks of it at a time and then turning the lights out, I gave my open closet some pretty heavy side eye. 7y

This second novel in the Kopp sisters series was good, but I found that I enjoyed the first, Girl Waits with Gun, even more. Lady Cop had fewer interactions with the sisters, but an intriguing plot that dragged just a bit. I'll continue reading because I like these characters a lot...also they have the best cover art!

The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place: The Mysterious Howling - Rightly said that this children's book has a Jane Eyre/Lemony Snicket feel. Three children raised by wolves and a governess that must teach them to speak, read, and not chase squirrels. I'm hooked. #kidlit #incorrigibles

Humorous bits; pretty great illustrations, but I think if I gave this to my niece it would give her even more anxiety about starting middle school next year.

Lovely quote from Gilead. I'm only 19 pages in and I'm falling deeply in love with this book. "For me writing has always felt like praying, even when I wasn't writing prayers, as I was often enough. You feel that you are with someone." #marilynnerobinson

Between the World and Me | Ta-Nehisi Coates

Just finished the audiobook version of Between the World and Me. I really enjoyed hearing it in the author's own voice. Written as a letter to his son it is a brutally honest and intensely personal look at race/racism in America. I think everyone should read it.

This book won't be for everyone. It's eerie and Gothic, slow paced, but the tension builds. I felt compelled to know the truth about Anna. Miracle or hoax? Has this eleven-year-old girl been living without food for four months? That's what Lib and another nurse are charged with uncovering.

This was one of my favorite reads of the year. A book about holding onto your humanity and longing for grace in a post-apocalyptic world. I kept asking myself: What would I miss the most? Who would I miss? What would I be glad no longer existed? I can't wait to read it again! And I got to hear the author speak about her work. Too great!

EvieBee Yay! You made it! 8y
