It's been a hot minute since I've been here, but I'm glad this little community exists. :) Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe!

This book is pretty interesting, but hoping to get through a hefty chunk on this gloomy Saturday and have a better opinion. Has anyone else read this one?

"I am not a young woman now, friends. My life is behind me. There is not too much fire burning inside me. And before it goes out, I want you to use what is left to light that fire in you, so that you can carry on, and so that you can do those things that I have done. Then, when my fires have burned out, and I go where we all go someday, I can be happy."

She's so much more than a dancer, and I'm glad I picked this up on a whim. What a grand story!

Anyone else read this book? I picked it up on a whim at Half Price Books, and I'm really enjoying it so far!

Since I finished my first book of 2020 today
(Aru Shah and the Song of Death by Roshani Chokshi - 🌟🌟🌟🌟), I decided to read something shorter and lighter. Cue this book I've been meaning to delve into- cat fairytales! This includes Puss in Boots and The King of Cats, and many more I'm excited to read!

How delightful to finish this book on the road on Christmas Day! Since I finally read A Christmas Carol this season, I could read this Christmas present from last year!
I loved this book and the big emotions I experienced, the care Silva took to keep true to Dickens and his world, and for a debut novel, I'm excited to see her future work. I absolutely recommend this, but have a hankie ready.
Happy Holidays!
Happiness & Peace To You! ✌💕🌟

There's a first time for every classic.
Loved reading the words behind the famous tale, even though I knew what was going to happen.
A great way to keep the holiday spirit in my heart.

I finished my 2019 reading goal with over a month to spare! YAY! It's not large in some respects, but for me and my busy schedule it seemed appropriate- and it was! I'm incredibly proud of myself too. 🤩

I LOVED this book! I'm sad there aren't more books in this series, because this kept me on my toes the entire time- so many twists and turns! I'm excited to see the future of this writing duo, and can't wait for their next novel. ❤

A quiet morning by myself before the chaos of the day begins. I love eating alone in restaurants, especially with a good book by my side.

Anyone else read this series? I found the first one in the clearance section at Half Price Books, and can't get enough! My Fair Lady + murder mystery = perfection. 💕

UPDATE: definitely abandoned this one. It was interesting for the first ten pages, but I quickly lost interest. Definitely different from the other Anne Rice novels.

Starting another book for Spooktober!
It's been a hot minute since I've read any Anne Rice (anyone else have a vampire phase in high school?), but I'm excited to read this story, especially because it's a story encapsulated in classical music! Woohoo!

Read my first Nancy Drew book as an adult- it's so lovely to read a mystery solved in one book with a ribbon wrapped around everything. Nancy's just SO GOOD at what she does, and seriously loves it. That type of passion is fantastic to read.

"Wield your assets like a blade, Cousin. No man has invented a corset for our brains. Let them think they rule the world. It's a queen who sits on that throne. Never forget that."

Comin' in hot with the badass female empowerment quotes that throw me off, in the best way possible!

"Death was not prejudiced by mortal things such as station or gender. It came for kings and queens and prostitutes alike, often leaving the living with regrets. What might we have done differently if we'd known the end was so near? I shut those thoughts off. I was wandering dangerously close to an emotional door I'd already locked."

So far, I'm really enjoying the first spooky book in my October TBR!

"Over these many years, I have observed both profound folly and breathtaking wisdom among humankind. They balance each other like dancers in the throes of a passionate tango. It is only when the brutality of the dance overwhelms the beauty that the future is threatened."

This series is now in my top ten... eh, top five, honestly. It's taken me out of my reading slump, and given me loads to think about in regards to morality and mortality. ???

When the Friends of the Library have a book sale and say, "fill a box of books and give a donation," you have to oblige, right? ?
I found several classics I should have read by now that will look beautiful on the shelves, and I found some other ones that just seemed like fun (see Old Mr. Boston De Luxe Official Bartender's Guide).
Hope to finally read some of these classics!

Since the dance season has started back up again, I haven't had much time to read. After a long weekend of sickness, I finished Circe (c'est magnifique!) and now finally have the chance to read this gem. I'm PUMPED to read this sequel- so far it's been giving me the same thrills I felt reading the first book in the series. 🖤

"The worst of my cowardice had been sweated out. In its place was a giddy spark. I will not be like a bird bred in a cage, I thought, too dull to fly even when the door stands open. I stepped into those woods and my life began."

The mythology is what initially drew me to this book but now it's the writing from Circe's perspective, as well as lines like the quote above that solidify my love.
I'm looking for more of this book, please. ???

I found this illustrated edition of Pinocchio (circa 1944) a while back, and figured this would be a quick weekend read. I might watch the movie after this and compare-so far, it's vastly different (per every other Disney adaptation, but still)!

1. I read this one a while ago, but it solidified my love for him. :)
2. Depends on the day- today is crunchy!
3. Sunrise (when I‘m awake to see it!)
4. I‘d probably buy furniture or new appliances, which officially makes me an adult 😂
5. Fourth grade- I remember my teacher giving impactful lessons and making an impression on me like no other educator before. She had a recess book club, had a pet hamster, and had a big heart. ❤️

In an effort to purchase the specific version of this book I want online, and failing twice...I couldn‘t wait any longer, so here I am reading it anyway! This series just takes my breath away in the best imaginable way. I‘m plowing through this one, and when I‘m not reading it, I‘m thinking about it. 😍

“My greatest wish for humanity is not for peace or comfort or joy. It is that we all still die a little inside every time we witness the death of another. For only the pain of empathy will keep us human. There‘s no version of God that can help us if we ever lose that.”

I picked up this signed copy on Independent Bookstore Day (also my birthday-woohoo!) and I‘m really enjoying the storytelling in this book! Such an interesting take on the Witch narrative floating around folk tales. The chapters are split between multiple character perspectives, and I love a good split story line! 😍

I found this the other day, and it made me think of the Harry Potter series and all the profound statements in the story about life, morality, love, friendship, and everything. This is perfect for the Percy Jackson series! Love it!

I‘ve been flying through this series, and I‘m excited to start The Last Olympian! I‘ve been extremely impressed with this series, and I can‘t wait to see how the story unfolds from here!

Bookish_Viking Rick Riordan is my first read. I only got hooked on books October 2015, randomly came across Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard. Was intrigued so I randomly bought it. Loved it so I bought more of his stuff, starting with Percy Jackson. Expanded from there, Sarah J Maas was my intro to YA Fantasy. Those two authors are my origin story. 4y
