I have been reading so much Sci-Fi and Fantasy lately - and while they are probably my favorite genres - I wish to learn something.

Picked this up almost a year ago and intended it as a "book club" style read with my sister.

We never do get around to those. ?

As I pick up this book I find myself wondering how it is that I got here. These books are well written, don't get me wrong, but the plot is so random and difficult to follow that I'm starting to feel as clueless as the characters. Is that the point? Either way, THESE BOOKS MAKE ME FEEL THINGS.

@the-flashley Have you made any more progress on this series? 😂😂

the-flashley Unfortunately, not yet! I haven‘t found them for a good price, and I think I probably needed the break to digest it a little, anyway. 😂 How did this one compare to the first for you? 6y
blairbear90 @the-flashley Hahaha happens to the best of us. This is the third one. The second one was slightly LESS crazy for the most part, but I only ended up with more questions! This one is told from all different points of view, so it feels like it's setting me up for some answers. GOD I HOPE IT IS. 😂😂 6y
the-flashley Oh that‘s right, I can never keep the titles straight. Lol I‘m just gonna have to buy them off of amazon, regardless of price, so that I can finally finish them. I‘m too interested in knowing what happens next! 6y
blairbear90 I'd recommend it haha! If nothing else they take you on quite the journey lol 6y

A tiny leatherbound pocket edition of A Christmas Carol, from my thoughtful mother. Specifically *NOT* a Christmas present. Haha!

Mehso-so

Two down, one to go.

This book did not answer my questions, AT ALL. I mean, I have more information, but many more questions as well.

One thing Jeff Vandermeer does well is to make you feel like you have to keep reading.

Next installment already ordered on Amazon.

Frick.

😂

blairbear90 @The-Flashley I have passive aggressively rated this as a so so because I have too many unanswered questions and I'm angry at it. 😂😂 7y
the-flashley Oh no! I still need to order it and read it. I hope everything gets wrapped up well in the last one! I would be really disappointed if it didn't. 7y

I decided to read this book because it was the oldest in my large stack of books that were purchased and never read. It's a terrible habit I can't seem to quit.

I was pleasantly surprised (as I'd mostly forgotten the subject matter) to find this very much to my taste.

The heroine is relatable and clever, if at times a bit too wistful for my liking.

I loved the character of Er Lang and would rate this as a pick based on his banter alone.

2. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
3. American Gods by Neil Gaiman
4. Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie - this only counts because I read it in grade 7 and have loved it ever since. 😍
5. I almost always prefer the book but enjoyed the Lord of the Rings movies.
6. PERSEPOLIS RISING - The latest installment in the Expanse series by James S A Corey.

I'm not one for short stories normally, but this tragic tale is one I like to re-read often. It certainly doesn't hurt that this Barnes and Noble Collectors Edition is absolutely stunning. ?

@The-Flashley thanks for pointing me in the direction of this strange series.

I have to admit, I rate this as a pick somewhat lightly. I'm beginning to understand the varying reactions to this volume.

I can't tell if I thoroughly enjoyed this book or if I'm just hoodwinked by it's strangeness. The ending left so many questions but at the same time felt so very right. I will definitely finish this series.

👽

the-flashley I agree with that. I think I liked it mostly because of how you don't realize that Area X is making her crazy until like part of the way through and you start to realize that the things she's doing aren't normal at all. I like the way it's written so that she describes these totally insane things she's doing but makes them seem normal to the reader. 7y
blairbear90 @The-Flashley I couldn't agree more. Her descent into madness is just so gradual and natural that you don't realize it right away (I'm still a bit in denial that she's lost it completely haha). It almost feels personal that way! Have you read any more of the trilogy yet? 7y
the-flashley Not yet! I know that the second and third books are supposed to answer a lot of the questions raised by the first. It would be worth it to read just for that! 7y
blairbear90 Welp, that settles it hahaha 7y

BOOK MAIL!! 🤓

My beautiful sister recently moved away and today is her birthday. So naturally, whilst browsing Amazon for her present-to-be, I decided to gift wrap myself a couple books as well. You can find her at @Read.Em.And.Eat ! (Her blog is pretty outstanding too)

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer is my first Litsy recommended purchase. Thanks to @The-Flashley for an intriguing review. 😉

This book is like a good thick cut steak, pan seared and oven baked to perfection. I'm still reeling from how delicious it was. 👌

From the world, to the characters, and the depth of feeling, everything in this story is so wonderfully balanced. I have already ordered the other two in the series, and am eagerly awaiting their arrival! 💙

✔ Political Struggle
✔ Fictional Mythology

Picked this up as something to sink my teeth into for a day of rest.

This book was completely immersive. From the Prologue you're invited in to the brutal but heartwrenching trials of the Frostwolves. You can help but be moved by the collective sense of duty to each other that the Orc clan shares.

I would definitely recommend this book to any Warcraft fan, or fantasy reader!

This series makes me happy.

I've seen a lot of reviews online saying this is a "cleanup book" While I agree that the first half is a bit slower and there isn't as much life threatening, pulse hammering action, I still think there's plenty of character development and plot advancement to make it a very enjoyable read.

I will certainly be pre-ordering the next in the series as soon as it's available.

Thank you, James S.A. Corey.
