I‘m so upset this book is over. The story of Ana and Daniel makes you so reminiscent of teen/YA life. Ana‘s story grips your heart. It‘s really hard for us to imagine a life so dominated by government. You can feel her longing to be free to speak, love, be. My favorite scene was the room service scene, I was just so happy to was able to experience a relationship if only for a few hours.
This is a MUST read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So hard to believe that “stealing babies” happened into the 1980s. I‘m glad she incorporated this into the story. So tragic and ruined so many lives. Unfortunately, I‘m sure not all children had the same fate as Christina.

I‘m really enjoying this book while I nurse this little one. She‘s an excellent writer. Not much historical fiction on Franco‘s Spain. It‘s such an interesting topic though.

UNAPOLOGETIC about prioritizing the needs of their children...being a working mom sucks. Thank you Michelle for calling attention to it and letting us know that to be successful, you don‘t have to put your kids needs in the back burner. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Families belong together. This book raises the question. What makes a family? I'm very torn. Was Mia wrong to take Pearl from the Ryan's? Who were the better parents for Meredith? Why did Izzy feel like an outsider?
I can't imagine loosing one of my girls the way the mothers in this book lost theirs. I don't know where I stand, I can see both sides. 😪

quote
Jensol77

Did you have to burn down the old to make room for the new? The carpet at her feet was soft. The sofa beneath her was patterned with roses. Outside, a mourning dove cooed from the bird feeder and a Cadillac glided to a dignified stop at the corner. She wondered which was the real world.

blurb
Jensol77

Do you think Mia should have gotten involved? I'm seeing both sides right now. In light of all this madness at the border, my heart is broken for all the parents and babies that have been seperared.

Be careful. The border...the f&@$ing border.
I feel a wildness spread through me.
It's nothing but a giant wound, a big gash between two countries. Why does it have to be like that? I don't understand. It's just some random, stupid line. How can anyone tell people where they can and can't go?
